So, DS has had XB360 for quite some time, but I bought him the "thing" that will allow him to access it online/live/whatever using the wireless router I use for my laptop (see how little I understand this, I don't even know how to explain it!). So I have two questions now:

1. I'm being a Scrooge and making him pay for the online service himself with his Xmas $$ from the grandparents. What's the best deal for him?

2. How does this whole Netflix through your XBox work? Details?!?

Thanks for filling in the clueless mama!
Terri

Dh has xbox live, I believe it's only $50 for the entire year.

I'm curious about netflix myself, looking for a reply.

Thanks, smilie, the boards are fast today, so I'm just going to give you and I a little bump:dance3:

We have Xbox live and Netflix. You need to set up your account on the Xbox and then with netflix - they walk you through it. Then you have to pick your shows online for your instant queue, then you watch them!

Our internet service has sucked lately so it's been hard to watch movies but the kids have been watching tv shows and it's been ok.

I will tell you that I found the best deal is to buy the Xbox Live Gold membership card through Amazon.com. Kids are getting it for Christmas. It's $40 for 13 months as opposed to the regular price of $50 for 12 months.

If you also have a Netflix subscription, there was a link you go to (provided through the xbox live, I think) and you enter a code (also given by the xbox live) Then you can watch your movies. I haven't done it, but the boys LOOOVE it. (They'll especially love it on their new big flatscreen from Santa...I can't wait!)

Good luck, post us any other questions.

Oh and Merry Christmas

Wow, thank you both, I'm starting to get the picture...

So here's my next "dumb" question, is it a regular netflix subscription, like 3 movies at a time? How would that work? Or is it a flat rate per month for however much you want to watch through your Xbox? And is it a "watch it once and it's done", because I assume it doesn't save anywhere? Can you pause it and run to the bathroom? I went to netflix's site and it's useless...

Thanks for the info on the Amazon deal, I'm forwarding it to his DGM, so she can buy it for him!

You're the best!
Terri
Merry Christmas to all....

You have to be a netflix member- and it is more like an On Demand. Not all movies are available. They are the digitally loaded movies. And they do not impact your mailed movie que at all. Think of it as free bonus on demand at home-
If you already have netflix it is easy as pie to set it up. And then just start watching.

I got free year or 3 months with my X-BOX.... check to be sure that yours does not also. You can also buy one month at a time and get a card at 7-eleven($8.00).... or 3 months for $20.00 at WalMart. My older son(15) likes to have many accounts so he buys the 3 months ones. He does this because he plays under different names with different e-mails....due to points/challenge and he is very competitive...little more involved than that but my 12 y.o does not do that.

So there are also other options with OL cards besides the yearly ones. But the yearly ones are the way to go:thumbsup2

Have a great Christmas :santa:

Oh, Robin, hearing about your son makes me nervous for my own house! DS is 14, and DH is going to partial unemployment, so I may have two "boys" who never leave the couch!

Thanks everyone!

:rotfl2: My soon to be 15 y.o prefers the x-Box over the computer and my 12 Y.o prefers the Computer over the x-Box. The Computers and the X-Box are all in my bedroom so I can monitor them. If they were not they would sneak on in the middle of the night  :lmao:

They are only allowed on during school nights for 1 hr and only if HW is done and they keep there grades up. The weekends they are on for around 4-5 hrs...but also do other things like going outside and movies and such.

On there B-days they are allowed on till midnight and if there B-day falls on a weekday they have to wait for the weekend to have that time. They will be allowed on New Years also till 12:30.....They play with many of there friends from school online.

Be sure to put rules down right away or you will have him wanting to live on it if he is in to or gets into gaming. My one son wants to design games and already designs formats. He designs them than the people who buy the servers that the kids play in online go and pick the ones they want from his site. That is also why he has many accounts. His designs are much in demand..they e-mail him also and tell him what they want and he designs them to there specifications. He does this more for the same games but on the computer. He is very visual...and artist and is very smart. My 12 y.o does not do this at all.

We also have the PS3 but they dont use that much and it's main purpose is used as our Blu-Ray player....

Gaming can become very addicting and take over there time if you let them. Stay strong :thumbsup2 :cool1: you can do it :rotfl:
