Xbox 360, How much are these things going for?

I put our name on the list two months ago at gamestop and was told that we may not get it before christmas.

Pre-orders?? these places are crazy... Stopped at my gamestop last night, they are telling people it might be April before they might be able to get one.....
Oh well.. I will keep searching.

I too love this machine... It's fast, and the graphics and sound are amazing!!

I was one of the people who waited outside best buy since midnight when the first x-box came out. It seems to me that the gaming companies are just getting greedy with how soon they release their systems. the xbox still has a lot of potential. I am not shelling out $400-$500 for a basic system :earseek: when I have a HDTV and would need the better version. I think i've spend all I am willing to spend on the game console after buying gamecube, Playstation 2 , and xbox. There is no reason why anyone really should pay top dollar for a new system bundle, when it wont be as big a move as comparing playstation 1 to playstation 2.

What really amazes me is all the people buying them (right now) on E-bay! How can you PRE-SELL something you don't even know you are going to get !? & worse yet, how can you buy it ?! :confused3

I say let's keep this thread alive and keep each other informed of any stores doing midnight sales etc....

I am very hopeful that I will get one mailed to me through best buy on or right around release date (at least that's what best buy e-mailed to me and said!) !!! BUT, you never know !! My kids want this like really really bad and have absolutely NO idea that I was able to pre-order one ! They are resigned to believe they won't have one until next year sometime, so of course I really want to get them one for christmas ! :goodvibes

Hi guys.

I'm in a rush to head out the door, so I don't have the time to read everyone's posts, but I wanted to offer up services.

I work in the game industry (worked for THQ corporate for 3 years...just got a job as an associate producer at .....gasp* DISNEY!) lol. (Start a week from Monday. Yay!).

I'm 25, and been a gamer forever. Shockingly, I'm female.

My boyfriend and I both have our 360s pre-ordered. I have gotten to play THQ games Saints Row and The Outfit, as well as a hush hush bit of Kameo. I can say that this system is ASTONISHING. I was always a Play Station girl, but in all honesty, I don't think the PS3 (sony's new console, due out next year) will match this at all!

This is not "just an upgrade". This is truly next gen. Not only that, the live awareness...rendering capabilities...storage capabilities...HD system...pure beauty of this system is jaw-dropping.

Microsoft has been so guarded about what it can do, that I think people don't understand how great it is.

Sony has beefed up the talk of their hardware specs. Only problem is that the design is lacking and developers (including some I've worked with directly) are ready to pull their hair out. Blu-Ray (big ps3 tech) is a proprietary media, that won't really be used for games...more for movies watched on the system, like a PSP UMD movie. Conversely, the 360 is amazingly easy to program for, and microsoft really wants to do right by the consumer base. HD is supported right out of the box. The microsoft folks are so communicative with developers and publishers it's mind blowing.

I got to be in a showing room last year at E3, and was wide-eyed from that moment on. And the downloadable content! My god!

I should warn you that microsoft has already stopped production of the original xbox, and most game companies have pledged to the next generation and have little to no plans to continue making games for the Xbox (version 1).

360 is what the game makers are salivating for as well.

I'm no fool, and I'm going to be honest. We have 2 pre-ordered, but will likely wait outside of Best buy at 6am (they are opening at 8, not midnight like wal-mart), and see if we can get one more to sell on ebay to help pay for our Disney world trip in January.

-If you have any questions about the system/controller/how it works/what comes with it/prices, feel free to send me a pm, and I'll get back to them as fast as I can.

This is going to be THE christmas item. If you remember what it was like when your friends had huffy bikes/air jordan shoes/pump shoes/cabbage patch dolls or whatever the fad of your youth was, and you didn't...that's how your kids will feel about this.

HOWEVER! If your kids are young, the only offering at launch is Kameo or sports/racing. Kid friendly titles will not hit the market till January, as companies are going after the adult "hardcore market" (you know...the people who love to room in the pacman building at POP) first. Then again, if you don't get one now, they likely won't be full in stock until April or so.

Problem is that Microsoft is doing a worldwide near simultaneous launch. That's a lot of units to sell, and the demand in Japan and Europe (formerly the Xbox weak market) has been huge.

Over and out.

Tina,
Thanks for the info. Helpe me to understand this. Those with pre-orders, like yourselves, will be waiting outside Best Buy at 6? Which day? AM or PM? The rest of us, should we want to do it, will have to line up at Walmart on the 22nd, because at midnight, we'll be allowed to buy one XBox 360? Is this what everyone else understood? And will it be early enough to get there at 8? I haven't decided whether we're doing this or not. My DS's aren't spending enough time on their homework as it is, I hate to make it even worse! :flower:

Our Best Buy will be closing at 10:00 pm 11/21 and reopening at midnight on 11/22. I was advised if I wanted one to be in line at 10:00 pm. I am not sure if that will even be early enough. The Best Buy in our area is promoting this heavily. DH and DS wants one. DH went on line this morning and found one that he wants with a bundle for almost $800!!! I just looked at him and said this is why I can not cruise in April???? :confused3 I donot play games and I am sure to get flamed for this comment. I understand for this system and what he would be getting that this is a great price, but get real!! That is my part of the cruise I gave up because he said we are spending too much money and need to stop!!!! Needless to say if he wants harmony in our household he will not get one. But I am sure his wants will over flow his mind and he will get one. :rotfl2: I guess he knows me well enough that I will only be made for about 5 months. After April I will be over it. :rotfl2:

My son REALLY was bugging us for one of these, we said NO! So he goes and gets hid grandpap to save the orange lids from 20oz pepsi bottles (like 150 of them) and enters the "one every 10 minutes" contest that pepsi was running. Well, one Friday night he comes flying upstairs screaming "I won, I won". Lucky kid, 5 hats and t-shirts, free soda coupons a free game and an X-Box 360, total value, around $550. :earseek:

Will Walmar.com be selling them online at midnight, or will this be one of the bundled systems?

If you want one of these on launch day, your best bet is to get to a store early on November 22, at least a couple hours before they open. Any stores that were taking preorders are most likely sold out of their preorders. One place people may not have considered is Costco/Sam's Club. Sure, you'll probably pay an extra ~$50 for their bundle (system + extra controller + maybe something else), but there's a good chance you might want to buy that extra stuff anyways. I'm still not sure where I'm going to try and get mine, but either way it's torture. While I'm going to be the one getting to the store early and waiting in line, my DGF will be the one paying for it, since it's my Christmas present. But like tbelfonti, DGF is making me wait until Christmas to open it. I SUPPOSE that's for the best, since I won't have anything to distract me during finals week, but that 3 weeks between the end of finals and Christmas are going to be brutal.

Oh yeah, as for prices: as people have previously mentioned, $299 for the Core system (system, wired controller, composite cables) and $399 for the Xbox360 system (system, wireless controller, HD component cables, 20GB hard drive, media remote, headset). The 20GB hard drive is $99 alone, so if you want the hard drive, its a no brainer to get the $399 version of the system. Also, if you plan on playing on a high definition TV, the component cables are at least $40. For anybody buying this, I'd recommend getting the $399 version, because you'd probably end up getting the accessories separately sometime in the future.

Thanks for the idea of going to Sam's Club, but that brings up another question. Since Sam's opens up one hour earlier for the "commercial members", wouldn't they all go in and clean out the Xbox 360's before the regular members could get to them?

your best bet is like target or other places and just camp out overnight like me and my frat bros are gonna do. none of us are keeping them though, we are just going to all put them on ebay in december to make a quick and easy couple hundred dollars.

My DH is a manager at GameStop.... Although I understand you son wanting one of these (since everyone at his school is probably talking about it) I do not think it is age appropriate. Most of the games that come out for XBOX are graphic in nature (I even have to ask him to turn the volume down sice I do not care for the bad words :earseek: ). When helping out a friend choose a system for their child, he told them to either choose GameCube or PSP2.:p

DH has been counting down the days for this system  ...says he wants to buy it for DS (age 6) and DSS (age 13) . I mentioned the prices listed here and of course he is well aware it was that much :rolleyes1 ...well newsflash I had NO IDEA :earseek: !

Then I told him that your DH said Gamecube or PSP2 would be more appropriate for thier ages...poor DH....I think he really wanted it for "them" so he could use it! There is NO WAY we are spending that kind of money on games DS can't even play...and I am TRYING to get DSS to play non-violent games which sounds like would be a loosing battle with this system! :sad2:  :sad2:

Overnight? I thought you could line up at like, eight at night, and buy the systems at midnight when they go on sale...this is getting more and more complicated! :confused3

Also, for those of us in northern states, the idea of waiting outside for hours before the stores even open their doors is another deterrent... :guilty:

very few stores are going to open at midnight.

The price is pretty much stated. If you are impatient you can always go to ebay with a skyrocketing price (it may double or triple).

Not to add hype but there seems to be a mad rush on this item as it looks like this is the item of the "holiday".

To ease some of your burden check out Circuitcity website for infos on how to get a preorder this coming Friday. That's should be nice to guarantee yourself a piece.

Camp out early (depending on the population of your city). & go to the walmart boonies (i think that helps a bit)

I see that a lot of people plan to buy these just to turn around and sell them on ebay. Is that the norm when these new systems come out?

After reading this, I think that we'll wait for the PS3. It'll be fine for us and has the games we really want. But I do suggest that people check with Target to see about waiting in line. We did once for one of the new systems and even though we had to wait a while, it went smoothly.

After reading how a couple here are going to sell their Xbox 360's on ebay and I went and checked ebay to see what they're going for. Not much. A couple ending in an hour were at $450. Not much more then list price and not worth the hassle, IMHO.

I think it's probably the uncertainty that they'll get it since they aren't available yet. Maybe auctions after Nov 22 will sell for more than $450. :confused3
