DH has finally announced what he wants for Christmas, the new Xbox 360.

I've looked on Ebay and the prices are outragous!! :earseek: And the thing isn't even out yet.

How much will these things go for in the stores? Of all the things for a 36 year old man to ask for, a Xbox. LOL!!!!

TIA!!

Hey now.. I am 33 and want a X-box 360. :rotfl:

Anyways to answer your questions.. There are going to be 2 prices.

The Core X-box system @ $ 299.00 This system includes:Console, Wired Controller, and Composite AV Cable.

The other X-box system sells @ $ 399.00 This system includes: Console with Premium Chrome Finish, Hard Drive, Wireless Controller, Xbox Live Headset, Component HD AV Cable, and a Ethernet Cable. ( This is the better deal )

They system is set to go on sale the 22nd of this month. Good luck in your quest.

Cheers: :cool1:

What if you don't have the system with the hard drive ? what does that mean, the games won't save ? is there a book available, maybe something called "Xbox 360 for dummies" ? could someone please explain :rolleyes1
Also, what are the most anticipated games for this system, my kids (16 & 17) have NO idea they're getting this system and I would like to get a game with it, they absolutely LOVE Halo Live !

TIA !! :teeth:

As far as I know the you do not need the hard drive to save games. You can buy memory cards. If you have the hard drive it will save games there. Also from what I have read the hard drive will be needed to play the backward compatible games. ( backward compatible means being able to play old X-box 1 games. ) I am not 100% sure how that is going to work, but you are also going to need internet connection for your X-Box 360 to download data to your hard drive in order to play old X-box 1 games, and not all the games will be available at launch. Only some of the most popular. ( Halo :goodvibes )

I don't know all the games comming out for the system this year, but I believe their will be 10-15 of them for the launch. I am sure you can do a quick net search to see what games are going to be released. ( I use IGN.com for my video game info ) Thats about all I know. Sorry I could not help out more, but perhaps someone else with much more info will chime in.

Cheers: :cool1:

Does the new XBOX do things that the current one doesn't? My DS has an XBOX, 3 years old, I think. He is planning on asking Santa for the new one. Ouch for poor Santa! I am not sure I see the need for it. He is only 8.

For an 8 y/o I'd just get him games for his old system. They seem to have a new great system every year. You'll go broke if you start buying them all. If you can, "talk him into" this idea for his list, then you won't feel bad if he doesn't get what he asked Santa for.

It will have the latest and greatest graphics. ( More power more power ) My DS is 9 and he can’t wait. Then again he is also the type that likes the latest and greatest things. I tried to get him to play an old Nintendo 8 bit system, and he told me those look like little kids graphics. :rotfl2: What do they teach kids in school these days. Guess I am too old school for him. "sigh"

Try xbox.com it should help answer a lot of your questions about what the new system can, and cannot do.

My DS13 tried the new XBox that was on display at Best Buy this week. He said it was "wickedly awesome" and totally blew the old Xbox away with its speed and graphics. I don't do video games myself and so I have no clue as to just how much better it is.

There are a lot of gamers who are salivating over getting the new consoles in a few days (they come out on 11/22). Then there are others who say it's not worth the huge investment of $$ just to be the first on the block with the system. Most retailers are not selling just the basic (AKA- "Core") Systems. They're bundling them with games, extra controllers, XBox LIVE subscriptions and extended warranties.

Gamestop.com's "Core Bundle" included the Core Sytem (worth $299) plus 5 games, an extra controller, a memory unit and a 1-year replacement plan. Total cost of their cheapest package: $699.91 before taxes and shipping. Ouch!

BestBuy was offering a pre-order to Rewards Zone members, but again, you couldn't buy just the Core System. Even their cheapest package included at least one game and an extra controller. Their "Sports Bundle" included 2 games, a wireless controller, play & charge kit for the controller and the game console with hard drive. Cost was $579.95 before tax & shipping.

It is a very hot item and pretty much sold out at the pre-order sites. Some B&M stores are rumored to have over-sold their pre-order allotments and are likely to have some very angry customers on their hands if that turns out to be true. If you think the prices on eBay are high now, just wait until the actual release date passes and people who pre-ordered multiple units start putting them up for auction. I think that you may see the prices fall a bit when that happens.

FI played a test copy of it last night. That's all he's been talking about. Now his exciting Christmas present is going to be money towards his XBox which he will be camping out for the day it comes out. In cases like these they need a guy hitting his head off a wall repeatedly smiley. ;)

Yep, I think we will wait on this one. Maybe a birthday present (August) & the price will come down a bit? I can hope, right!

if you get 1 get the more expensive one
then you dont have to buy memory card or save sticks i think everything gets saved automatically
i think

The XBOX 360 will also allow you to "save" your cds into its hard drive so you are able to play it with certain games as the bakground music, ect. The current XBOX is able to do that now with certain games. Also, you can play movies and music...and on down the road be able to take photos (don't quite understand that one...its a game! :rotfl: ). DH explained it all to me, but I don't remember all of it. I just think of this as the Rolls Royce of game systems.

My DH is a manager at GameStop and is counting down the days to me. At first my response to him inquiring about the system was a big fat NO! How can he spend that kind of money on a game system?! But once I got past that and he explained it more in detail...he basically broke the "guts" of the system down and explained why this one is better than his old XBOX...and I finally gave the go-ahead.

Although I understand you son wanting one of these (since everyone at his school is probably talking about it) I do not think it is age appropriate. Most of the games that come out for XBOX are graphic in nature (I even have to ask him to turn the volume down sice I do not care for the bad words :earseek: ). When helping out a friend choose a system for their child, he told them to either choose GameCube or PSP2.

Good luck to all the wives and girlfriends out there who will be losing their husbands and boyfriends next week to the new XBOX 360! :p

This is very much true
I happen to know of a few places that will not be able to accomodate their customers' pre-orders on the day of release. BUT, that doesnt mean they won't get it at all. They will be staggering them throughout the weeks in shipments. DH store is receiving 24 or release date. They have over 100 pre-orders. Not quite ethical in my book... :rolleyes1
But do not give up hope. If your name is on the list for pre-order, you should receive one before Christmas. It might be cutting it close, but it should happen.

DS(9) also played the new XBox 360 at Walmart and I have to agree that the graphics are the BEST I've ever seen.

I've already told DS & DH that Santa will NOT be able to get the XBOX 360 this year because they are new and everyone has them on pre-order already -I told him he would probably get one for his birthday in March ..............

See, I finally learned my lesson.

DH wanted one for Christmas. I agreed but ONLY if he agreed that he had to wait until Christmas to open it. No sneaking around ahead of time playing it. Because what ends up happening is I feel guilty because he has nothing to open so I end up spending MORE. This year, it will sit in a box until December 26th :rotfl:

Well I don't feel guilty he won't have any gifts :rotfl: I am sure he is going to be happier than a kid in a candy store come release day ;)

I really use to fight this. But I have learned we need to meet half way on a lot of things (as in...I don't have to worry about cleaning the dishes for the rest of my life ;)).

So I let him play :love2: Plus, he doesn't argue so much when I want to go shopping :p

The company has only made so many of these for the initial launch which is PART of the reason driving up demand. A lot of people don't realize that they may not get one even if on a "pre-order" list. Best Buys in our area don't even know yet how they will handle this launch, i.e., close the store and re-open at midnight on launch day. My brothers and dad are planning on waiting outside of some store at a ridiculous hour to get one and try to sell it on E-bay.

My brother's friend actually won tickets to the launch out in the Mojave Desert on the 20th. They are both trying to find a way out there because you will be able to play the new systems for 48 hours straight in an airplane hangar before the public.

Yup, I was told a couple of months ago by a salesman in Gamestop that they had three pages of pre-orders and they had to stop with the pre-orders because most of those won't even get one before Christmas.

Crazy!!!

At this point the only chance you have is camping out at stores that do not do preorders. me and my college friends will do it then sell them on ebay for a nice profit. this gift will not be as bad as the ps2, but it will be bad, finding one B&M is your only chance for Xmas. honestly folks, i know more about games and that such then most people here. if you have any specific questions, just lmk.

my son wants one also, for 300.00 he isn't getting it that's for sure, lol
