I know this isn't a video game forum, but I imagine someone must have the answer to this. I'm used to being able to put a disk in and play within a minute or so. The XBOX1 is taking up to 40 minutes to install a game. Is this normal?
DS had an XBOX 360 and now a 1S (not the new one, this one is a couple of years old). Yes, it is not unusual to take a lot of time to install a game. Then once you run it, it will need to do a bunch of updates.
When you think about the detail that is in many games, then figure how many files that takes and they're probably compressed on the disk, it's really not that surprising.
OK. It's the damned expectation of immediate gratification. I have Madden 2021, NHL 2020 and Disney Pixar Rush. I got this to get my mind off things and got frustrated that I had to wait so long
But, I have to start being more positive... Madden is great, NHL is OK, Disney, ummm. And no, I'm not what anyone would consider a "gamer."
We joke every Christmas when the kids are patiently downloading games that it is definitely not the years of Atari and Nintendo of my youth where you just put cartridge in and played.
Thats if they worked!! There were many days I had to blow into them and then miraculously they’d work again![]()
You know that was all in your head, right? Blowing did not help, jsu tthe act of removing and reinserting the cartridge. The pins on an NES were notoriously easy to bend slightly so they didn't make good contact. I liked the early Atari games that had a locing cover over the pins on the cartridge. Sort of unnecessary, but an extra laver of protection.
Really? Tell that to all the cartridges that worked after I did it! It’s always possible I just had the magic touch!!!!!![]()

That would actually take longer. First you need to download all of the content, and depending on your bandwidth can take a while, THEN unpack/install.You can also download games through the Microsoft store. How old is DS?

Im sure it will. However, they said they only had 3 games. Just letting them know they can get more, if they’d like, on the Microsoft store. If you really want the games - you’ll wait.
Oh, agreed. We bought DS Fifa 21 for his birthday (annual tradition, it always comes out right around his birthday). For some god forsaken reason, I was up at 3am that morning. So I went ahead and started the download so it was ready for him when he had his first break from school (they're virtual, 2 hour long class blocks but the classes themselves usually only take ~1 hour).Im sure it will. haha. I think getting internet to everyone (for school, work from home, etc) is the first key. Then work on the speeds. Don't use "downloading games" as a necessary reason. We need a better, faster Internet infrastructure in this country. We hardly ever get the speeds we pay for and we pay so much for top speeds. It would really help with downloading games!
