X Factor--Season 1

Aside from Astro's initial audition and the "I won't dance" stint, he's been pleasant and respectful thusfar. He thanks the judges for their comments and seems to be quite pleasant. What's the problem?

I was just thinking that last night during the results show. Astro doesn't sing. Even in the group number (yes it was obvious they were lip synching :sad2:) he couldn't "sing", he still did his rap crap. I just don't get why he is even there, when it's a "singing" competition. :confused3 I was hoping he would get the boot and be gone.

I was fine with Intensity leaving, I didn't like them from the beginning and thought it was kind of weird that they took all these individual kids and made a group out of them.

I do hope they get better songs to sing next week. I like the way A.I. has a specific genre for them to do each week, and wish it was that way for X-Factor. There were some really strange ones this week, like Rachel Crow singing "Walking on Sunshine" but the words were all changed. Odd.

I kind of like how the judges have control over who leaves, instead of the bottom vote-getter automatically going home.

This is just like the way the show "So you think you can dance" does it. We vote, and bottom three guys and bottom three girls have to dance it out and judges decide which of three of each go home.

Phew about Josh - now my son's teacher and her daughter get to go to LA!:cool1: I'm so happy for them!

I thought it would be InTensity. They are too Disney channel. I would have been fine with either one of them leaving or with Astro. I don't like him. My daughter says he is really good at what he does, but I don't really like Rap.

I can't stand him and I HATE HATE HATE his "music"- its fast talking, not music!!! He is obnoxious-can't wait for his butt to be GONE GONE GONE

That's what I was thinking. I told DH Astro can take over for the auctioneer on Storage Wars. :lmao:

Hate rap all you want, but it is legitimate music (and not my favorite, though there are a few songs I like). Now COUNTRY music...whew, THERE's a waste of radio air space. Whiny, twangy, melodramatic drivel. At least you can dance to rap/hip-hop (and line dancing doesn't count hahahaha!)

Here's the thing though, why can't those who don't care for a style of music, at least have the courtesy to acknowledge when someone does it well? As stated above, I detest country music with the white hot intensity of 10,000 suns BUT on Idol I was able to appreciate and acknowledge that Scotty McCreery did it very well and would likely go on to a lucrative career in that genre.

I don't even really like rap, but I can certainly tell when someone has a talent for it.

I think Astro does do rap well, but I would still like him gone before too long because there are many other contestants I like better. :)

I don't consider it "legitimate music". To me, music is either instrumental or singing, a song has a melody, etc. Rap is like another poster put it, just fast talking. With a bit of practice I would think just about anyone could do it as you don't need a voice for it like you do singing. Maybe I'm just too old to "appreciate" it. But I do enjoy many types of music including rock, country, jazz, gospel, soul, reggae, just about anything really...and even if it's not my favorite I still can appreciate it. Not rap though, sorry.

And with the opening group number each week, are they always going to have a special little rap part for Astro, since he can't "sing?" I see Chris sometimes puts a little rap in his songs (which I detest) but he still sings most of it and does have a good singing voice I think.

You should probably take it up with the music industry. Apparently Grammy's are given out for rap, and the industry considers it legit, as does it's very large fan base.

Art is subjective. There's plenty I HATE but it doesn't make it "not art" or "not poetry" or "not music".

you can call it legitimate music- I call it crap.

Most of it certainly is.

Now I hope Astro wins just to see everyone get their knickers in a twist. :lmao:

Abso-freaking-lutely NO WAY!!! Over Josh and Melanie? :scared1:

He may last a few more weeks but I certainly can't see him winning. His ego would just explode if that happened. ;)

Oh I love Josh and Melanie (and I'm pulling for Melanie personally), but I would find it highly amusing if Astro won, for the aformentioned reason.

Of the remaining contestants, the only ones I would hate to see win would be Stacy Francis and the Stereo Hogzz.

I would be happy with either Josh or Melanie winning, and hope it comes down to the two of them in the final. I hope Leroy Bell goes far too, but I'm afraid teens might not be voting for someone who is 60 years old (he sure doesn't look that old though!).

I loved Stacy's audition, but haven't really liked anything she's done since then. And I didn't think it was in her best interest to sing a church song. I hope Nicole gives her a great song this week.

I think Josh, Drew and Melanie are my favorites. I liked Stacy at her audition and loved it when she did Purple Rain, but haven't liked much else. The church song was over the top. I like most of the others too minus Stereo Hogz and Astro.

It's a new week!

Stacy just finished, and I didn't think she sounded very good at all. Then again..I was pretty busy looking at her forehead..please..let the woman have her bangs back!

Marcus- I thought he was good, but I wasn't wowed.

Drew- Love her! I think that was a great song choice, and I would buy her album for sure. Her voice is just haunting.

Leroy- Love him, and thought he did a great job! I wasn't crazy about the arrangement though.

Lakoda Rayne- Much better than last week!

Astro- Eh..I realize he is a rapper, and that's why he raps every week, and I think he's a talented writer, but his rapping is just ok, if that.

Melanie- Another great one, almost made me cry..lol.

On a sidenote- Seems the judges are blowing sunshine tonight- not a lot of criticism, and I think some was deserved in a couple cases. I do think it's funny that LA is finding something wrong only with Simon's girls.

Josh- As usual, he did a great job- I think it's going to be really hard when it gets down to the top 4 or so- much harder than it's been for me w/ American Idol.

Chris- Thought he did a much better job tonight, but he just doesn't do it for me..prob the genre.
