WWYD? offered free upgrade

I was offered an upgrade from Pop to SSR 1BR and jumped on it! I just returned from a previously planned trip which included a few nights at SSR with an AP discount. I stayed at a 1 BR. This place is fabulous! If anyone has any hesitation or fear about switching it's completely unfounded! The only thing Pop has over SSR is the food court. I didn't eat there, but bought a snack and got drinks there. It's very small in comparison and I didn't go in the shop. We went swimming once in the main pool, it's wonderful. BTW- The washer and dryer hold alot more than the typical stacked models. Let me know if you have any questions.

Glad to hear you trip went well.We took the 1 bdroom upgrade at OKW not SSR but I still have some ? for you.
How were the buses to the park?
Were the bus lines long as they are at the value?
Did you feel like you needed a car?
What building were you in?
Did you get a refill mug? Were there filling stations around the resort?
Was it spead out and did the resort feel huge?
Did is still have the Disney feel to it?
Any towel animals?
How was the appliances?
Did you enjoy the whipool in your room?
Was it to hot to use the outside hot tub?
I know lots of questions.I could come up more if you would like.
Laura

Im not getting the no food court thing. Whats the big difference?

Buses have to be better then Musics?

Glad you had a great time!

This is totally off topic, but there are a lot of Lauras here!

People keep asking about mugs, but I have to wonder if they're even worth it at a DVC other than as a souvenir. I'm getting soda and water delivered--with a fridge, it will be cheaper than the mugs for everyone and no walking to get the drinks.

How were the buses to the park? I only took the bus once, to MK, didn't wait long at all

Were the bus lines long as they are at the value? I was in the Springs section, last to be picked up, first to be dropped off out of the four bus stops. There wasn't anyone else on the MK bus, I couldn't believe it! They were all going to AK which had EMH that morning.

Did you feel like you needed a car? I usually have a car because we like to eat at the resorts, but I don't drive to MK.

What building were you in?Springs building 4 waterview. We were facing a small lake with a fountain and if I looked to the right I could see our bus stop and the main pool from our room

Did you get a refill mug?Yes.Were there filling stations around the resort?I only went to the food court by the pool, but I think someone said there is another station by one of the quiet pools, but I don't know for sure.

Was it spead out and did the resort feel huge?It is huge, but we didn't walk all around it, or even to DTD, we drove. If you look at a map of the property you'll see each section has it's own bus stop, which is a much nicer set up than the single stop at Pop. So that's great if you're relying on Disney Transportation. But if you have a car you can park right at your building, not a distant parking lot.

Did is still have the Disney feel to it?It is not themed cartoony like Pop, which is fun, but it's more beautifully decorated, but in a comfortable style. I thought the architecture and room decor was well done. Granite counter tops, nice shower, two separate bath areas, t.v.s in both the living room and bedroom.

Any towel animals?I didn't get any. I have stayed at Pop and while there, they already had towel animals in the windows but I never received new ones.

How was the appliances? Great! Full sized everything and the kitchen was well stocked if you wanted to cook. We made breakfast there every day.

Did you enjoy the whipool in your room?I didn't but my dd did.

Was it to hot to use the outside hot tub?Yes. I only went to the pool area once, and that was during the day, so I didn't try the hot tub. At night they do show movies by the pool too, but we were in the parks.

Laura You're only allowed one question!:rotfl2: jk Hey, nice name!:goodvibes

LauraAnn630 (nice name too!:goodvibes ) it seems like the values and even the mods have better food courts than the deluxes. I stopped in WL for a visit and had a snack in Roaring Forks, which is pretty small compared to Pop, but the food court at SSR looked even smaller to me. It was just something I noticed...

TAKE the upgrade ... I personally would pick OKW .. the feel of the resort is nice and not as crowded as SSR ... Disney transportation is great..especially at the deluxe Home away from home resorts .. there is often a grocery store onsite .. we stayed at BWV last .. there was a grocery right there.... you will love it .. nice porch, good food, AHHHHH :)

I honestly think the deluxe resorts attract more of a crowd that doesn't really care about food courts ? The deluxe resorts tend to have more sitdown restaurants (some of them on the fancy side). The values don't have any sit down restaurants on the flip side. I think folks who stay at the values, want the food courts more than those in the deluxe resorts do ? I'm sure there are exceptions, but I think, on average, this is probably the reason. I suppose if you can afford $400-$500 for the GF, then you can afford to dine in more restaurants. ;)
The DVC resorts, otoh, don't stress much in the way of food courts because most of the rooms DVC Members stay in have full kitchens. So I guess disney didn't think a food court would get much use ? The food court at SSR, while smaller than a value resorts, has better food in my opinion. The WL's offers a small food court. But they also offer 2 full service sit down restaurants. So I don't think a larger food court is really necessary at a resort like that.

Glad you had a great time!

I didn't really like going into the food court at ASMo, and I wasn't even there at their busiest time (first week in May). There were kids running into people and people were leaving a mess on the tables, etc., and in the mornings it was a nightmare. The food was really good though and I can see the appeal of the a la cart items and having so many choices.

I mostly used the food court for the beverage center and even then I had to wait often because there were so many people around it. People weren't behaving either - they were throwing straw wrappers in the lemons and would dump food garbage in the rinse-out station so it was plugged and over-flowing. There were packets of sugar dumped out all over the counter and floor - and I can't blame the CMs for any of this - they were cleaning as fast as people were making a mess.

I'm looking forward to having more than one beverage center at SSR, but it's probably a much longer walk to get to one.

I'm thinking the food court at POP must be really nice, or better designed that the one at ASMo.

Has anyone received any more free upgrades? I just paid off my trip and was hoping that maybe I'd still get a free pass.

I just received a pin offer in the mail for a room at a value resort for $59/night...I saw dramaticmissy's post on page 49 and was curious about this offer...Disney has already offered me so many good things (free dining and upgrade to SSR), but I thought I would just call and check on this (just to make sure) The lady told me on the phone that since I had a MYW package I could not use this offer, because it was for room only...does this sound right to everybody else? I wondered if there was any way to split my package up into separate items and still keep the free dining and upgrade at SSR..

If not, that is perfectly fine because I am so grateful for everything else Disney has offered us! I thought I would just check with my fellow DISERS tho, because you all are so helpful! Thanks :)

I would think you could use the $59 room only as a before or after your package as a seperate reservationl. I wouldn't even mention the MYOP when I booked it. You cannot use it for the package though.

Oh I agree, that's probably their reasoning. SSR also does not offer room service. I didn't eat anything at the SSR food court so I'm not aware of what they offer, but I have eaten at Pop's food court which has quite a variety. Being on the DDP there are counter service credits to be used, so I'm just trying to point out any differences I noticed that might be helpful to those planning to switch.

I have two days of room only at ASMU before my package and switch to SSR begin. I did not receive the $59 pin code, but I used the one open the general public for $69. You can not use these with any kind of a package.

Anyone have luck for changing rooms at the 45 day mark?

Nope, I tried a couple times right around 45 days, but no dice. I asked about both SSR and OKW, no 1 bdrs were available to me.

I don't mind though -- I'm just so thrilled to have gotten the free upgrade to a studio! :woohoo:

Still check once a week, you never know - when is the cut off date for people receiving the full refund?

Woo Hoo!!! I was just able to upgrade to a 1bdrm! Now if I can just get one for DSIL and family. So, if anyone is still trying to get an upgrade from one of the values and received the pin code offer...call right now as I know a studio @ OKW just became available.
