WWYD? offered free upgrade

I felt the same way on the phone! I ran around like a moron all morning because I was at my mom's house dropping off my kids before work, and I misplaced my reservation number and her computer crashed. I ended up being late for work because the upgrade call took so long, and I asked the CM, "How are you guys going to top this?" It was really pretty funny, but I HAD to make the call right then, I couldn't let something this big pass me by, now that I finally got one of the elusive pixie-dust upgrades.

M2DD's: To quote a post, just hit the "Quote" button at the bottom right of the post you want to quote, the DIS will do the rest. If you want to quote more than one person, hit the button next to it that looks like this: "+ for each post you want to quote, and use the "Quote" button for the last post you want to quote. It will bring up a new window to type your reply with all the posts quoted.

Now "quote" sounds and looks like a funny word. ;)

We are going from 8/27 to 9/3 and nothing is available during that time. I am going to keep trying. :)

Have you played around with the dates at all? Maybe check out on the 2nd and do a room-only somewhere on the 3rd?

Another option might be to see what dates are available and then rent points from a DVC member for the nights you can't get -- of course you wouldn't have free DDP on those nights (but could pay for it), but at least you could take advantage of the upgrade for as many nights as possible and ask to have the reservations linked to increase your chances of not having to change rooms. You could get a studio @ OKW for approx. $100 night if you just happen to luck out and need to pay for something Sun-Thur. Because of the difference in points, it really wouldn't be worthwhile to consider this option for a Fri/Sat night.

My bad, it was June 7th on Thursday. I saved my email so I can put it in my disney scrapbook. Then, I booked the inlaws on Friday morning.

Same here. I had to calm myself down cause I was at work alone and I tried to call my dh and he was helping a customer and I told him,"this is very important". He was so excited too but he said you have to calm down. When I was talking to the CM on the phone I told her this is the best dream I have received yet!!!

I told my DH to print the e-mail off (he has a better computer)so I could put it in my disney scrapbook and he laughed at me. I want to always remember how I felt when I read it. I have always been the person who never wins. So to me this was like hitting the jackpot.

lyzzi-thanks for helping me with the quote lets see if it worked
Also I forgot already where everyone was staying the thread is getting so long.We should try to list them. I don't think that I could do it for the simple fact just learnt how to quote a post:)

Here's the reality of it...large parties traveling together may have been better off to keep some of the accomodations as studios as I feel they'd have a better chance of being closer to each other. The reason why is because many of the room configurations have a studio attached to a 1bdrm (that way it can also be used as a 2bdrm unit if necessary). So yes, they may have lucked out by everyone getting 1 bdrm villas -- but they might not even be in the same building.

Also, I think everyone needs to be prepared to be placed in the areas that are a little farther away from the main building/pool as the most desired locations will probably be assiged to DVC members and those that originally had reservations and are paying OKW/SSR rates. Some of these will probably be handicap-accessable rooms and ones that were previously considered smoking-optional. I'm really not trying to rain on anyone's parade...just want people to be realistic about what will be available for them. Even so, it's one heck of an upgrade and I for one feel like I've won a major prize in the YOAMD before I've even left the house! :thumbsup2

Very good suggestions. We are DVC members and have stopped making a request and just pick what is available at check in.

I agree.

Everytime we have used a room only code we have been put towards the back of the resort. One time we were in the room furthest away.

I wouldnt expect to be put next to the pool or a fireworks view.

We actually prefer to be far away. We request "water view" and have never been disappointed. I don't mind the walk---we've never had more than a 8 min walk and that was bldg 46. We like to be quiet and out of the way....we enjoy the peacefulness. But I agree, everyone should be prepared as this is a spread out resort (but I honestly felt POR and CBR seemed bigger when we stayed there).

When we got our free upgrade in April, we also wanted a water view. When we checked in early in the morning, the cm was really nice. She showed us that there were 6 one bedroom units available at that time and let us take our pick. We chose either 4261 or 4621...I can't remember! The room was ready, too! What I do remember is that is was a beautiful unit with a pretty view of the river, palm trees and a quiet pool off in the distance. The room and the view were nicer than we would have dreamed of! And the unit was VERY quiet! We hated to leave it.

Hope you all enjoy your upgrades!:goodvibes

Upgraded from AS Sports to SSR 08/26-09/01. Funny thing is....I was credited $30. What a deal!

Called today, but they don't have any rooms left. I don't know if I care. Dh and I don't mind POP and we think FD will be fun. We don't spend time in our room or at our resort beyond sleeping. We just don't really care about our room much. They said to call back and see if anything opens up. I don't know if we will bother, though it is a very nice offer.:thumbsup2

I was told to bring a copy of the upgrade email with me on check in just in case they ask for it...

Hi, everyone. I know this may be a silly question but being a newbie I find that no matter how much time I waste at work :surfweb: reading these threads, there are still some things I just don't know.

So my question is, what is a PIN and how or why would you have it attached to your account?

Thanks.

A PIN is a code that Disney attaches to your name at random that then gives you a discount on your resort ressie. Sometimes, Disney will email you the PIN or send a letter in the mail making you aware that you have a PIN attached to your name, but sometimes they just attach it to you and you don't have any idea, SO..... when you make new ressies, ask the CM if there is a PIN attached to your name and if it applies to the ressie you are making.
There are also PINs , or codes, that will be released to the public from one time to another- anyone is able to use these public codes.

I was told to bring a copy of the upgrade email with me on check in just in case they ask for it...

That's a great idea! I wasn't told that, but I'm going to do it now that you mention it.

How do you get the upgrade? Was it just a random thing that was done?

Yes, it was random. If you booked a value resort for check-in between 8/26 and 9/01, they chose a random group of people within that demographic to receive an email offer for an upgrade to either OKW or SSR. Some people are calling (with varying results) to see if they have a pin code in case they missed the email.

So my question is, what is a PIN and how or why would you have it attached to your account?

My understanding is that a pin code is a discount code that is unique to YOUR particular account. Sometimes, like with this offer or the 40% off offer that was circulating earlier this year (I did not get that one :sad1: ), a random group of people is chosen to receive a particular discount or upgrade. It's not an offer that is made to the public, it has to be noted in your account that the offer was extended to you. Sometimes you're notified by email, sometimed you'll get a postcard, sometimes people just find out when they call to make a reservation. The "pin" part of it means that it is a unique code for each person who received it, so for example, you couldn't publish the code and let a whole bunch of people use it, it's good only for you.

I think I got that right, if not I'm sure someone else will kindly correct any misinformation.

ETA: karebear1 - ya beat me to it!

Congraulations to all of those lucky people who managed to get an upgrade.

I arrive on 26 Aug at ASMov but I booked with Dreams Unlimited. I checked with them and they will still get the upgrade offers like the rest of you. So far I am not one of the lucky ones but fingers crossed I will get one.

I contacted Disney on the off chance that I might get one and she told me as I booked through an agent she didnt have access to my information so she could not check. Apparently people are still be offered an upgrade.

I really hope I get one (along with hundreds of others I am sure) but it seems that most people who are getting them are only staying for 1 week where as we are staying for 2.

Congratulations again to everybody

OK, thanks for explaining that to me. So if I call and I have a PIN on my account, will they tell me what the PIN is for?
