Did you actually have a pin or did they just give it to you?

I know when I called that I didn't give them the pin. I had it in the email, but I just told them I got this wonderful email saying I could upgrade!

Worth a call to check if you have it coded to your email address! Good Luck!!

The upgrade was offered to a random group of some of those people who booked directly through Disney for free dining in the value resorts, checking in between 8/26 and 9/01.

Our Grand Gathering got upgraded!!!

Here's our story.. Hope it helps

Orginally booked a GG on The first day Free ding was offered to DV.
4 rooms preffered POP Aug 27-Sept.4

1. Sister and I called last night no pin attached to our names
2. Sister called this morning Had code under her husband's name but could us it to upgrade just her
3. I called back still no upgrade for me but sister called pretending to be mom and mom did have a pin attached.
4. I called back and was told that each of them could upgrade 3 rooms, each to a 1br room at SSR. My sister calling at the same time found out the other person is our GG didn't have a pin.3
5.After giving my sister and my mom's info a great CM named Elmira checked with Guest services and I was able to upgrade all 4 rooms at POP to 1 br at SSR.

Total time on 2 phones 1 1/2 hour
Free upgrade to SSR!! priceless

by the way they credited us $94 dollars each which was the upgrade at POP for prefeered rooms

We got the upgrade e-mail and we are going 9/1 to 9/7.
Our 1 bdrm villa at SSR is a $1,330.00 gift from Disney.
The free dining off saved us $600.00. Also saved on the fridge and flight


I dont know why they offered all this to us! We are so greatful.
We go every year and spend, spend, spend.

I also order all the info about DVC membership.
They upgrade us and hope we buy.
Then they can sell more packages at the All Stars.

We owed less money after the upgrade too! LOL

Has anyone been successful getting a 1bdrm @ OKW on yesterday (Friday) or today (Saturday)? We ended up getting two studios because we didn't know SIL received the email until the next day. I feel we are very fortunate and don't want to push our luck, but SIL/BIL are traveling w/their adult son and would prefer having more privacy. Also, does anyone have a 1bdrm that has been contemplating changing to SSR? If so, maybe you can PM me and let me know you've freed up a 1bdrm @ OKW. Thanks!!!

I got one yesterday @ OKW. I called early in the morning. I told her I didn't care what resort but would like a 1br if possible. She checked and said that both resorts had them which one did I want. I choose OKW.

You may want to try calling and ask if they have any openings. I was only able to get a studio at SSR last night but this morning when I called back to see if something might have opened up I was able to get a 1 bedroom. Good Luck and Pixie Dust

Congrats to everyone who the email. I called hoping I had one attached to our name but no luck. The cm advised that If I was traveling with someone they could call in and change my reservation using their code. She was pretty nice. I too have thought about purchasing a DVC so this would have been a great way to check it out. Oh well! Still happy to be going to disney with free dining.

They used the email address that is registered to your Disney account, it had to be the same one that the confirmation was sent to also. They verified this with me a few times, I think it was actually more important than the code and now that makes sense because people are calling to see if a code is attached to their email address on file.

I'm on the phone right now with Disney because we also got the free upgrade....finding out if we have to sit through a vacation club speech...if not I am thinking we will take a deluxe resort! I will let you all know!

Disney doesn't offer free stuff for their vacation club, they don't have too.

I *really* hope it doesn't mean that Pop is overbooked from 8/26-9/1!!! That's when I'm going to be there, and I didn't get an upgrade offer..... I've never stayed at a value before (have stayed at Poly, WL, AKL Concierge, Dixie Landings) and thought I would do a cheap trip with free dining this time... Now I'm really worried that Pop will be at capacity and I'll really hate it. It's one thing for the parks to be super busy, but if the resort is fully booked, where will I go to get away from all the people????

well you and I will be squished in there together. We can always leave and go do a monorail drinking tour !

For those who got the free upgrade offer, how many times have you stayed at a Disney resort? I'm wondering if the free upgrades are being offered to those who visit WDW often, and would be prime candidates for DVC...

Also, out of all of your stays at a Disney resort, how many were at a value vs. a moderate vs. a deluxe?

Hmmm... it makes me wonder what Disney's marketing strategy is here.... Get the frequent visitors into a DVC resort and hope they will buy? Or get the frequent visitors who have mostly stayed at deluxe level resorts into DVC and hope they will buy? DVC is not cheap, so I'm wondering how they are "prequalifying" the guests that are being given the offers...

They are not prequalifying anyone. The selection is random.

The value resorts are always heavily booked year round and even more so during free dining. If one has to pay rack rate for a room a deluxe room is not much of a value during free dining.

They are full and guests are still calling wanting value resorts during free dining. This is not a DVC marketing situation. However if someone does end up interested in purchasing due to the upgrade it is a win-win situation for Disney.

Yes, Pop is located in an area that has a different tax rate, so the difference that you are receiving back would be the difference between the two tax rates

I am also staying at Pop in AUgust, but more towards the middle so there is likely no upgrade for me.
