I have a question about something. A little background. Last year I went with a neighbor and her two kids to a waterpark. We stayed at a hotel nearby for 2 nights. We each got and paid for our own rooms. I don't like to share rooms. The hotel stay was good except for one minor annoyance. My neighbor had no complaints at all. She loved it there.

I belong to the hotel priority club. After each stay I get a survey asking how that visit went. The only complaint I had was the breakfast in the morning. Not a deal breaker and it wouldn't stop me from staying there again. I just put under the how to improve section a little blurb about how long it took to restock the breakfast items and maybe they could make an effort to restock, especially when it is brought to their attention. DD literally waited 40 minutes for oatmeal and ended up eating something else as it never came. I get a call from the manager two days later! She apologizes for the service and gives me two nights free with a one year expiration. I was shocked as I didn't really do anything but mention the breakfast. I stay at this hotel line quite a bit but not this particular one.

While on the visit my neighbor didn't care for the waterpark as her kid didn't want to do anything. She said she wasn't going back there again. Fine. So this year I ask another friend if they would like to come along with me this time. I had that free room to use! They said yes and everything is good.

Now my neighbor, who I told about my free room as soon as it was given to me last year, says she wants to go too and will get a room for herself and another family. She then calls me up today and asks if she can get the same deal I got as in free rooms. I told her that she might have had she been a club member, got the survey, and complained but she most likely didn't have a chance now. She says to me "Oh I thought you got us a free room too". I told her no that I was given that room because of the survey I filled out. Should I have offered to split another room with her? I guess I don't feel I have to as she had no prbblem with the place. I had told her initially about the survey and told her to sign up for the card but she didn't. Sorry this is long but what would you do?

I wouldn't do anything. If she wants to go she can pay for her own room.

I'd do what I'd originally planned to do. :) She can do what she wants.

(Paragraph breaks are your friend. :) )

I wouldn't feel obligated to share with her! She's an adult and you did tell her to sign up. If she wants to go she should pay her way regardless of what you are doing! You filled out a survey and got a free room. She didn't! It's that simple.

The Hotel is giving you COMPLIMENTARY accommodation's, what ever the reason for the gift you are not required to share with anyone.

Even if she had joined the club and filled out the survey, one can not be sure that she would have received the same gift.

LMAO~! Sorry! I was in a hurry to take DD somewhere. I didn't even spellcheck it!

She could have signed up for the card and completed the survey. I would just let her worry about her own room.

I agree w/ everyone else, she should pay for her own room.

Thanks all! I was beginning to think I was wrong and should have offered to pay for one night of her stay. Glad to hear otherwise!

Did you get two free nights because there were two rooms booked originally? If so then the other one was technically hers. If not then she needs to pay.

No. We each paid for two nights stay. She got two nights and I got two nights. The manager gave me two nights to make up for the breakfast service.

Even if it were so, if the Hotel wanted the other party to get a room... "technically" they would have given it to the other party.

Why does your friend feel she should get a free room too? The entitlement mentality of some people never ceases to amaze me.:sad2:

I have no idea. I was very surprised when she asked me about it today. She told me last week that she was going to go too and asked if I would mind if another friend and kid came and shared her room. I said no problem. I even added that it would be good for her because then she could split the room cost with her newly invited friend. So she would only have to pay half anyway since she has someone to split it with. She actually wanted to get two nights free like I did. When I said it was doubtful she threw in the part about she thought the deal was for all of us anyway. Our reservations weren't tied together or anything. We paid for those rooms seperately. I never even mentioned in the survey that I had traveled with another family. I shouldn't have even mentioned it last year that I got the free room! Me and my big mouth!

The hotel didn't even know about her traveling with me. She didn't fill out a survey because she has no problems with the breakfast. I never mentioned them in the survey because she didn't have a problem with anything.
