in your belongings that was banned at the airport but you made it through security anyway? If you realized you had it while still at the airport but not yet boarded.

Would you toss it? Would you just move on and remember to check it through on your return?

Well, assuming I had the time, I would go back to security and ask to speak to a manager and then give it to them. If I did not have time, I would toss it. Not worth it to me to get stopped with something I wasn't supposed to have.

Well I'll go ahead and say I'd just hang on to it and do nothing. Go ahead, call me lazy.

Now, I'm thinking of a bottle of shampoo or a scissors or something. I wouldn't be carrying guns or drugs anyway.

It would depend on the item. If it were a larger bottle of hand lotion than is allowed, I'd keep on going. If it were a can of mace or something dangerous, I would toss it.

Me, I probably make sure they knew about it. Because if I am getting through with it, then I would think, "Who else is?" KWIM? These folks need to know when they have made a mistake.

My son had a toy muzzle loading gun we got at Pirates of the Carribean. I wasnt about to give it to them.

not drugs, say something like a knife that you used for work.

I'd just keep it to myself and remember to check it on my way back. Once you've made it through security and into the terminal, nobody's going to search you again. Trust me, you're not the only one who's ever made it through security with something banned by the TSA.

And yeah, those TSA folks have such wonderful personalities that I'm sure they just LOVE it when people point out things they missed. So no, I wouldn't run back and point it out to them. Like I said, I'd keep quiet about it and just continue on my merry way.

Last year my son flew out of LOGAN with a pocket knife in his carry-on. He forgot it was in their and discovered it at the hotel. Gives me such faith. :sad2:

Keep it stowed and keep moving. Do not go to TSA. If our govenment really wanted to do a great job of screening, they screeners wouldn't be paid $11.00 per hour. The military would be used instead. And nobody, but nobody messes around with the military personnel with guns.

interesting, thanks, it was actually a friends client and we were having a discussion about how we would deal with it if it happened to us.

I said Id toss it before boarding. Not worth it to take it on board if you knew about it imho. Im sure it happens all the time but I wouldnt want to do it.

Same here. I don't think the hand gel that DD forgot was in her purse is going to cause the plane to crash. She's not a terrorist, No need to throw it away.

I wouldn't say anything, but definitely check it on the way back. A coworker of mine had a couple of boxcutters in a bag that included an LCD projector, that was used for a business meeting. He didn't know the boxcutters were in there because another coworker put them in there and didn't remove them before my friend took it. Needless to say, he was pulled aside and searched and questioned for a long time. It's not something you would want to go through. It is sad though that your item wasn't caught by the TSA employees. I can imagine how many things go through not noticed.

We've gone through security multiple times with our kids sippy cups full of apple juice. Now if we were stopped, we would have gladly dumped them and bought new juice later, but I'm glad they didn't.

Afraid I totally agree with this person. There is no way I would go back to those people. Like said- with their personalities no doubt you'd end up missing your flight. Had a few minor "run ins" with some of them. No fun!:scared1:

It still surprises me that certain things (a knife, boxcutters) go undetected when going through security.:confused3

For some reason, my carry-on seems to be pulled aside two out of three times. Honestly, I don't believe I carry anything out of the ordinary. I have to stand there while security personnel go through every item in my bag, and make comments. Last trip, an agent fell in love with my Neosporin/bandaid kit on a keychain.

I always wonder what they think they see that causes them to put my bag through a second or third time. Yet, another bag goes through (unintentionally, I'm sure) with a knife.:confused3

On one of my trips leaving from Tucson International Airport, I forgot that I had a half-empty bottle of Pepsi tucked in an outside pocket of my carry-on. When going through security, I was asked to throw it away. I sheepishily tossed it, and was a bit embarrassed because usually I'm really careful about checking everything.:guilty:

ETA: To answer the OP's question, I probably would not take the item back to security.

About a week after I'd flown out of Tucson, there were news reports about a woman that actually got through security with a gun in her carry-on.:scared1:

They found my Pepsi, but not her gun.:scared1:

ETA: To answer the OP's question- I would probably not return the item to security.

Well, if it were truly dangerous . . . mace, a knife . . . I would just hang on to it. If I trashed it, who knows what kind of dishonest person would pick it up and use it for something nefarious?

If it were not something dangerous . . . a beverage or other safe liquid . . . I'd just pretend I bought it "air side" inside the sterile zone.

I would not take it back to the checkpoint . . . why take a chance on missing my flight? But I wouldwrite/email TSA and let them know they failed once again.
