WWYD: Found a Kitten

We found a little kitten in our backyard yesterday. Sweet little guy, but we are moving (plus DD has allergies), so we can't keep him.

I've posted on a couple local message boards, but no luck finding him a home. I called the animal shelter, and they'll take him, and they say kittens usually get adopted quickly and if not from there, they send him to Petsmart to be adopted. But, of course, if he isn't adopted, he will be euthanized.

He's got a really sweet personality - likes to be around people and loves kids, but he's not the cutest thing I've ever seen! I just can't take him there knowing there's a chance they'll put his down, but I just want to find him a good home.

I was going to say I would keep him, but since there are allergies you can't . are there any no kill shelters anywhere near you?
that is an option, but I think a kitten will get adopted quickly. ( hopefully )

how about family, friends, coworkers, anyone you know that would take a kitten?

If you don't feel comfortable taking him to the shelter, you could try and post an ad on Petfinder.com or in your local paper. When we got our two kitties, we looked in the paper and every time we called someone - they were already gone! It took us 3 weeks to find one that didn't get adopted right away, and then we got our 2nd kitty from the humane society here.

If this were a couple months later, I'd take him for you - DF and I go to Missisippi every year for Thanksgiving to visit his family.

If you find a no kill shelter, there is usually a waiting list. Go ahead and put him on the list and keep trying to find his owners in the meantime! Poor little guy. Can you post a picture?

If you are anywhere near Hattiesburg, MS, I think there is a no-kill shelter on the way to Columbia. I would take it but we already have two cats and DH is allergic to them.

We are in Hattiesburg...Oak Grove to be exact, so Columbia wouldn't be far at all. Any idea what it's called?

Go on petfinder.com and put in your zipcode. Look at the shelters in yoru area and when you go to their home pages, it should say if it's no kill.

We've been in PetSmart for over 6 years. I've yet to see a healthy kitten not get adopted. Is it healthy, have clear eyes and nose? if so, I'd take a chance on the animal shelter. Kitten season has started here in NY, I don't know about your area, but we aren't overrun yet. This may be a good time to get that baby adopted. The shelter will s/n it first, so the chain of more and more kittens from that kitten can be stopped.

Did you look around to see if there are more, under a shed or in tall grass? There is seldom just one.
