I bought dd a discounted ticked last year for Wicked ($55), and she's going with a JH club on Wednesday night. A school bus is taking them, and she's going with some friends and some of her friends' parents (who I know). So far, this is the weather forcast - BTW, we live 8 miles west of the NYC area, so this is our area:

THE POTENTIAL FOR 6 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION EXISTS. AT THIS TIME THE HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA AND LONG ISLAND.

AS THE STORM INTENSIFIES... EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS WILL BECOME STRONG AND GUSTY DURING THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY... WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY IN COASTAL SECTIONS. THIS WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW... WITH NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AND POSSIBLE POWER OUTAGES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET... OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

Do they cancel Broadway shows? She has seen this before, a couple of years ago, and loved it. However, I really don't want to risk her life for it!

The lights of Broadway don't shut very often. I think the last time they shut down was after 9/11 and during union issues.

No, they very rarely cancel shows. If it's bad, i'd have her skip the show. The $$'s not worth her safety. Don't count on the train. They stop if it gets to bad.

Oh man, that stinks!! I don't know what I'd do...probably not send her. I know my DH wouldn't let my dd go if the weather was very bad. He's a cop and sees way too many accidents in bad weather.

The show may not cancel but the bus service will.

Thanks everyone. I am not an overprotective parent - my kids walk to school, play on the front yard unattended, Ds11 started hockey at the age of 4, dd13 goes to movies with friends... However, I do seem to have realistic fears, and automotive accidents are the number 1 killer of children. This bus is owned by our town, I believe - a parks and rec bus. I did think of the train, but getting to a local station 4 miles away is uphill on local roads, as is the light rail into Penn Station in Newark.

I still remember taking a train home from NYC during the blizzard of 96 (17 inches on the ground by the time we got into our NJ station), and driving wasn't fun!

I would hate to have her be the only one not to go (and DH thinks I'm overprotective in this area - he's planning on taking ds11 to a Nets game that night - there's another battle to be fought), but if it's as bad as they are reporting, I'll just have to make it up to her.

A lot of theaters let you post-date tickets, which means you can bring back unused tickets and switch them for another night. I'm not sure what the policy is for Wicked, since that show is really popular, but you can call the theater and find out.

According to my Wicked playbill (which is a few years old, but it should still be the same number), the number to the Gershwin Theater is 212-586-6510.

I'm sure they'll be getting quite a few no-shows if the weather is going to be as bad as they're saying for Wednesday.

Good luck!

I won't even let my husband driveto work in blizzard conditions.

Around here--when a hurricane is expected, school/county sponsored trips often will get cancelled once there is a warning. Too close to call and risk it, you know?

Is this a school or county/town sponsored trip?

What is their cancellation policy in regards to storms?

I would just hesitate to send anyone into a situation where they can possibly be stranded or extremely delayed.
