Okay, I have made ressies for the not planned trip (couldn't pass up the free dining deal), but now my mind is going a 100mph. Only 51 days to plan

Taking my 12 y/o nephew who can eat like a horse (hooray for free dining!).

Was wondering what there is to do at Wide World of Sports? Is it just watching tournaments, etc. or is there actually a place where he could try things out? Never been there and just looking for some possibilities. I know he'll LOVE Disney Quest (as do I).

Also, how late is DQ open at night. We won't get to WDW until around 7PM, so a park visit is out. Thought DQ would be fun for a few hours.

Thanks!
Terri

Some nights there are minor league baseball games there ( maybe it's major league) - can't remember - you can go to their web site. They used to have this thing called the sports experience. My 10 year old liked it cause it was different athletic events (football, basketball, ect.). We went during the day and it was very hot.

There were lots of tournaments going on (baseball, field hockey, and volley ball when we were there). The facility itself is absolutely gorgeous. The resturant was also OK (again it's a sport bar type resturant so a 12 year old would love it). My boys loved it and enjoyed the sports trivial game.

If it's on your ticket, it's worth a look-see. I wouldn't go back again. I just went out of curosity on a morning we were too burnt out to go to the parks. I do know that if either of my kids' soccer teams ever consider a tournament there, I would not hesitate because of how nice the facilities are.

Disney quest is a giant arcade with several interactive attractions. I did not like it at all. But my kids did. It was crowded and I felt like I was back at the mall. That was just me. Again, worth a look-see, but I would not go back and don't plan on it during my future trip.

Have fun! I will warn you that the Disney charm is totally lost on a 12 year old boy. My kids (now 10 & 12) like disney and they are excited for our upcoming trip, but I know they will tell me (more than once) that the rides are better at Universal (they are both coaster fanatics). Oh well!

In March the Braves(pro baseball team) hold spring training there. Games and autograph/picture opps.

In July/Aug(dont know exact dates, the Tampa Bay Buccs hold training camp there. Autograph/picture opps, but pre season games are held at their regular stadium(I think).

We were at the Pop which is right across the street from the Wide World of Sports and we went over to the All Star Cafe. We will never do that again. #1 they had it about 50 degrees in there and we were freezing. #2 we only ordered three sandwiches with fries and drinks. The bill came up to $40. They had it at $50 (they had charged us twice for the drinks) The service was lousy just because it was close to closing. It was not a good experience at all. I would recommend to either go to Nascar Cafe over at Citywalk or Race Rock. They both have better service and the food is as good if not better.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp is from July 29 to August 17 this year.

I think we'll skip this. I figured if there was something we could actually DO, it would be fun. But I'm not gonna waste time just watching, when there are so many other things to do.

I've been to DQ and I love it. I'm a arcade game fan, so it's perfect for me and I know my nephew will enjoy it too.

WWoS has a small sports related restaurant (Official All Star Cafe). There is the ever present gift shop. I have been in the Cracker Jacks Stadium building. There are sports trophys on display.
But this is more of a true sports complex where youths compete.
Always worth asking at the desk when you check in to see if something is going on though.

I think normally DQ is open until midnight. I am sure hours vary somewhat. But as a rule of thumb I think midnight may be it. (From what I have seen anyway.)
Pirates is GREAT fun, ye scurvy bildge rat. arrrr pirate:
