i am very new to the boards...but i have a question!! i have been trying to do WW on my own, however, i have no books with points:( so when i venture away from my normal routine foods, i am having trouble counting. i want to make sure i'm staying within my range and that is hard to do by guessing!!
my question: is there anyway to buy a book outside of being a member? or any other ideas on where i can access this info??
thanks for you help!!! i have lost 5 so far, but have a ways to go!! i want to do it all correct to keep losing:)

i've seen lots of the books on ebay. or you could do ww online, it's $60 for the first 3 months (total, not each), then $15 per month after that. or, you can do the "ww home" i think it's called, where you pay about $100 one time fee and they send you all the materials. you could probably get all those materials cheaper on ebay though. and check out this website... www.dwlz.com . she has all sorts of good tools for ww. including lots of points values for restaurants! good luck!

I would just go into a meeting place and buy the 2 books that they sell. One is a dining out book and the other is point values for most common foods. I don't think they ask if you are a member when you walk in to buy things. I stop in at a location other then my meeting places and I never get asked. All you'll need to do is find the time that they are open.

i guess this is a similar question... about the 2 point bars... how much do they cost at meetings? and i assume if you can just go in and buy the books you can do the same thing with the bars? just wondering, because on ebay, they seem to be going for about 2 bucks a bar! that seems like a lot to me. (i do ww online).

I'll add in on her behalf that on-line ways are workable for her, she doesn't have internet at home right now and probably won't I'm guessing until after they move? Anyhow, she's a teacher and has limited time for personal internet at work.

The WW at home option is interesting though, nik?

I have wondered about those 2 pt bars too, bumping to hopefully get an answer to that question too

So like, you can just show up at a meeting and purchase products? Should one feel funny about doing that??

Hey everyone,

Well the 2 point bars are $6 a box where I live (4 bars). I tried them before, but haven't continuted to eat them since I saw that they had hydrogenated oils in them. I have been trying to do good and eliminate items out of my diet that include that. They tasted like a candy bar though, so that was good. They have regular ones and nutritional ones (with some vitamins in them).

You should be able to easily walk into a WW's and buy them. The dining guide and complete food guide are $5 each in my store. I definately reccommend the complete food guide, but I think that most things that are in the dining out guide are on Dotties website. Its mostly fast food places, and you can get the nutrional info from the fast food web sites too. I don't think there are many restaurants, because they don't give out nutrional info.

Dotties Weight Loss Zone

The complete food guide is great! Wonderful actually. It has more items than are in the one you get when you join. There are even ethnic listings in the complete food guide that help with eating out. That coupled with some of the food lists on Dotties site. Go to site map and they are listed in the second box on the left hand side.

The WW at home option is $99 (I saw it in the WW magazine). It would be a lot less expensive to go to a meeting for one week. I think there are New Year specials right now. Not sure. That are about $24 to join, $12 each week after. You get the getting started book, the fast track kit if still available, points slider. The points slider is good because you can take it to a store.

If anyone is interested. I have the complete food guide (2002) on a word document and a computer points calculator that I could e-mail to you. These come in handy sometimes.

I also use my PDA to journal. It has a points calculator, journal, 2002 food guide and you can download all the restuarants from DWLZ. It sure makes it handy when I go out to eat. I have all the tools I need to make good decisions on what I am eating. If anyone has a PDA, I can e-mail this program to you too. You can check out more info on it on DWLZ on the message boards under Palm Pilot.

WOW Melanie..your costs are so much higher then here!

I pay 4.50 per box for the bars. My registration was free and meetings are 9.95 per week. They just had a month with free registration for January, but they are almost always offering that.

The books were the same price. I bought the kit with the 2 books and the case. I can't remember the total cost.

And you can just walk in and buy things, I do it all the time. There are 2 locations close to me and I just go to whatever one is open at the times I'm running around. NO one questions whether or not I am a member.

Everyone is right. It doesn't matter if you're a member or not. Just walk in and buy whatever you'd like.

The prices of things vary by where you live. Marsh, if your profile is still accurate (you haven't moved or anything....) then bars are $4.50 for you.

If anyone has a question about WW product prices, PM me with your location (I need a state and county) and I'll let you know.

thanks you guys! all that info was very very helpful. i'm definitely not going to be sucked into spending all that money on the bars from ebay! what a rip off. i've been eating pria bars for 2 points, usually before i run in the morning. but i think i'd like to try the ww ones for snacks, because i know they have more fiber in them, and that would keep me full longer.

melanie, i'm interested in getting the complete food guide word doc...i'm going to send you a pm. i wish i had a pda...that sounds like it would be a very convenient way to keep track of everything!

thanks for all of the suggestions!!! you are all so inspiring! i'm really excited to be on my way!!:hyper:

Weight watchers really works, I have lost 16.4 lbs since Jan 3!!! I like that you can eat whatever you want.princess:
