My main point is still the impact of the celebrity and who is ultimately responsible. IMO the imact is limited, and when it comes to kids, the parents alone are responsible for the long term affect.

Parents may be able to influence the effect on their younger children of stupid remarks by celebrities, but please don't hold parents responsible for all of the mistakes their children make - don't think you were saying that in your post but felt the need to add that on a generic basis.

I am almost 60 and have seen some of the most wonderful people in the world end up with one rotten apple among their children - really bad like heroin addict or alcoholic street person. Sometimes even the best parents can't save their children from themselves.

If that's your only reponse, then by your defintion MG was just being honest as well. It's certainly not what I believe, but you're the one who decided to respond by just saying you were being honest.

While I agree its unlikely any teenager would look to Mel Gibson as a role model, I'd hardly call him washed up. Perhaps he is after this incident (either that, or he's revived his career tenfold!). But before the arrest Mel Gibson was probably one of the most successful working actors in the industry, at least from a monetary standpoint.

If it's fact back it up. Let's see some proof of the direct connection. Otherwise you'll be called on it when you call others naive. It's called disagreement, nothing more.

The fact is, parents are THE most influential role models in their childrens lives...good, bad or indifferent. Yes, even the best parents can end up with 'bad seeds'...but it is very unlikely that what put their children on a bad path was a remark they heard from a celebrity. Childrens personalities play a big role in how they will turn out too.
