Wrong names for rides you or people you know INSIST on calling them

The weirdest misnomer in our family is from my brother. When referring to BTMR, he always says "Let's go on Blue Thunder!" So now we call it Blue Thunder!

DH always says Speed Pass for FastPass, and simply, Splash for Splash Mountain.

And I've been know to call Primeval Whirl the Tilt-a-Whirl.

A lady at work who just returned from her trip called Philharmagic "Philharmonic". I didn't bother correcting her though! LOL
And DH always calls Magic Kingdom "Disney", which drives me nuts!

The Boston subway system identifies its lines by color, so we always call the TTA "the Blue Line", like the one in Boston. Teacups, Star Wars, Pooh, Big Thunder, Splash and Space (now confused with Mission: Space) but our family's unique name for Spaceship Earth is "The Riding Globe", courtesy of DD when she was about 5 years old. Oh, yes, and the Primevial Hurl (DD again, she's 11 now...)
Just got home from WDW last night, the cool weather (58 degrees yesterday) didn't bother us...we are hoping it will get up to 30 today here in Orono...sigh, day of sadness, when can we go back???

The ride in Mexico will, for us, forever be called "the donkey boat ride".

after our 2nd night on our first trip, we asked DS (then 5)what his favorite part of the day was. he proclaimed "the donkey boat ride, mamma! can we go again tomorrow?" Poor critter, he had no idea the thrills that lie ahead for him the next day at MK.

I dunno. I went to WDW for the first time when I was 9 months old, and have been going once or twice a year since. I remember the days when MK was the only thing there, but for me, "Disney World" always meant a whole lot more: Discovery Island, Poly beach, Contemporary arcade, Fort Wilderness campfires, etc. :teeth:

That's why I still can't understand people calling MK "Disneyworld," unless they're too familiar with DisneyLAND.

Not a ride, but a hotel. DH insists on calling WL Fort Wilderness Lodge. He claims that back in the late 80s , when WL was just a thought, they were thinking of building it on the grounds of Fort Wilderness, thus it would be Fort Wilderness Lodge.

Has Majic Kingdom, always been called Majic Kingdom? Wasn't it Disney World when there was just one Park?

Not a ride, but I always call DTD "the Village". I agree with whomever said why should I have to break 32 yrs of habit just because Disney went mod?? I also call the Polynesian Resort the "Polynesian Village" too.

In her younger days, my daughter would always call the Backlot Tour the "Blackout Tour". Journey into the Imagination is also just "Figment's Ride"

I hate people who can't get 'Ohana right. Not O'Hana, or as a sign at the Poly had it during a rehab back in '96: O'Hana's. Yeah, that Irish Polynesian place.

My DD 10 who is scared to death of Haunted Mansion, nw insists that in her presence it is referred to as "Hello Mama." (DD 6 has no such issues).

Saying WDW is IN Orlando.

Epcot Center instead of Epcot (Epcot '90 anyone?). Of course don't forget that Epcot Center was supposed to be the center of Epcot, which was in fact the whole Walt Disney World property.

Disney is even guilty. For some reason I doubt anyone remembers, all the promotional material (like the planning video) refers to "Disney Studios" (the video even has "MGM" removed from signs in key shots) while it is and has always been the "Disney-MGM Studios." Remember when it was 2 halves? The Studio (home of the massive tour that was split into the Backlot and Soundstage) and the Theme Park (home of very little (GMR) when it first opened). That arch was supposed to be the dividing line.

Oh and my personal favorite for "The Land:" "Can we please go to another pavilion now? It's been three hours..." (the kids like the Land)

Ok. Question - even in the beginning when MK was the only park, was it not called "Magic Kingdom" and the whole resort area "Walt Disney World"?

If so, there there no excuse for referring to MK as WDW. It never was WDW.

The PEOPLE MOVER! I think it's called the Tomorrowland Transit Authority or something? My family calls it the people mover.

I'm not sure why, actually... >.>

It's one of our favorite rides in MK.

That was the original name of the attraction. I still call it that myself. And for some reason, I'm always interchanging "Mission Space," "Spaceship Earth" and "Space Mountain" with the attraction that doesn't match its name... just like I do with my kids.

As I posted in a recent "overheard at WDW" thread... I've heard two classic MK attractions referred to as "Pirates of Penzance" and "The Wax Museum."

But, "Fast Track" is probably the most common error I hear.

Ohmigod did they change the name of the Columbia Harbor House? I HATE when they change the names! For those of us who have been visiting since the 1970's, those names have real meaning... I will NEVER stop calling them the PeopleMover, Grand Prix Raceway, Polynesian VILLAGE resort, Star Jets, MGM, and Dixie Landings. It's too painful to switch! :)

Mad Tea party: tea Cups

Haunted Mansion: Haunted House

Alien Encounter: ExtraTERRORestrial

Barnstormer: Goofy coaster

BTMR: Runaway Train

Magic Kingdom: Disney World

TTA: Tomorowland Train

SSE: Big Golf Ball

My DD6 calls TTA "Blue TT Line" because that's what's written on the sides of the tracks.

We also nicknamed rides such as "Tea Cups", "Stinky Noisy Car Thingie", "The Golf Ball" and "The Thing with Figment"

We are guilty of calling Mad Hatters Tea Party as "Teacups" too!
We also call the ride in Mexico, The Mexico Boat Ride
And something I started as a little girl, we call the Transit Authority ride, the "Delta Ride", I dont know why but I have always called it that!
