Wrong names for rides you or people you know INSIST on calling them

Ok, I thought I was crazy for a minute there, but I remember it being called people mover as well at one point. Then they turned that track into the Rocket Rods (although not sure if that was just in California or not as I was living out there during the time and substituted my Disney World trips with Disneyland trips).

Like everyone I call it the Tea Cups.

The Maelstrom is "the Norway ride" to us :P.

The ride in Mexico at Epcot is always "the Mexican Boat Ride" or "the Lalalalala Ride" or " the Mexican Small World Ride".

I often have to correct people on the Disney World/Land or Magic Kingdom thing, in fact quite recently when I asked my sister which parks she wanted to go to this year and she told me "Disney World" referring to Magic Kingdom. I might excuse it if she hadn't been there tons of times before and was a little younger than 30 :).

Astro-Orbiter I always forget the name of and call it the rockets.

We call Big Thunder Mountain "Rocky Mountain Railroad". My son started calling it that and it stuck.

DS 3, began calling Philharmagic--Donald chasin' the hat! Now it seems like that will be it's name in our family.

The castle in the MK is "Cinderella Castle" ... not Cinderella's Castle (this one doesn't really bug me much, but it bugs some other folks I've talked to.

I think there's a lot of names that get shortened ... In casual conversation, I'm a lot more likely to say "I went over to MGM and rode Coaster"" than I am to say "I went over to the Disney-MGM Studios and rode the Rock N Roller Coaster, starring Aerosmith". In a similar manner, I will usually refer to "Space", "Splash", or "Big Thunder" rather than adding the "mountain" on there.

I too call MHTP the teacups and TTA the people mover. I also call Port Orleans Riverside plain old Port Orleans. And something that really bothers me is when my dad calls Wilderness Lodge Fort Wilderness Lodge!

My husband and I must have early dementia or something, but we have a problem with fast pass, speed pass (a quick way to pay for gas at Mobil) and I pass (Illinois toll paying thing-a-majig.) We get all three mixed up on a regular basis, as in "I need the fast pass in the car as I am going on the toll road today!" Nuts, I know, but we always understand each other. The one that bugs me the most is Disneyland for Disney World though :earboy2:

On our last trip to Epcot it seemed like everyone around us was calling Test Track - "Fast Track" It was funny

Ds 5 refers to the TTA as the "people mover," as many others do. He also refers to the Speedway as "Autopia." He has obviously watched the Disneyland volume of the Disney treasures too much. As an aside, when the "Tomorrowland" DVD came could, a Cm at the disney store started talking about tomorrowland in the MK, and DS explained to her that it was really all about Epcot. (BTW, I think she is a great employee at the DS. She is always very upbeat and "disney".)

Guilty of "teacups" here too!

I know this is only supposed to be for rides, but my sister can never saythe Grand Floridian right. She always says, "The Grand Floridiran"

The biggest one:

people referring to the Magic Kingdom as Disney World, and then each of the other parks by its correct name!

That call the MK Disney World do that because that use to be the only park, before EPCOT, MGM, Animal Kingdom. Just a thought.

"The Merry-Go-Round" (as opposed to Cinderella's Golden Carousel)

"The Train" (instead of Walt Disney World Railroad)

"Winnie the Pooh" (instead of The Many Advenures of Winnie the Pooh)

"Buzz Lightyear" (instread of Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin)

"Thunder Mountain" (instead of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad)

"Snow White" (instead of Snow White's Scary Adventures)

"The Race Cars" (instead of Tomorrowland Indy Speedway)

"The Ball" (instead of Spaceship Earth)

"Norway" (instead of Maelstrom)

"Tower of Tower" (instead of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror)

"The Muppets" (instead of Muppet Vision 3-D)

"A Bug's Life" (instead of It's Tough To Be A Bug)

This thread is hilarious!

My FIL is notorious for calling rides by the wrong names and we've been making fun of him for years. Some examples:

Tower of Terror - Hotel to Hell
Test Track - Fast Track or Test Run
Haunted Mansion - House of Horror
Mission: Space - Mission to Mars

Definitely "It's Tough to be a Bug"....I always hear "Let's do A Bug's Life!"

My DH CONSTANTLY called Test Track "Fast Track". He would quickly correct himself, but he must have done it four times on our last trip.

We call them the Teacups too.

Does anyone know why the Magic Kingdom castle is called "Cinderella Castle" rather than "Cinderella's Castle"? I always think its correct name makes it sound like a person with first name Cinderella and last name Castle.

I'm not sure how it got started, but we always call TTA "The Blue Line". (The entire track has a big blue stripe on it all over Tomorrowland!)

I still call everything by the name it "was" not the name it "is" and now my kids are guilty of the same thing.

Peoplemover -- TTA
Star Jets -- Astro Orbiter
Grand Prix Raceway -- Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
Nantucket Harbor House -- Columbia Harbor House

When I'm asked what the name of the Riverboat is I still say Admiral Joe Fowler, not Liberty Bell.

What can I say, when you've been going to the MK regularly for 32 years it's kind of hard to change your habits just because Disney wants to rename something. :rolleyes1

When my son was 7 he called the Tower of Terror the Terror of Tower. He loves that ride and kept saying Terror of Tower the whole week!! Now he is 11 and he will say it right but I always have to say "you mean the terror of tower" and he rolls he eyes!!
