Wrong names for rides you or people you know INSIST on calling them

I am guilty of golfball because that it what my oldest kid called it the first time we went....Can we ride the Golfball again....We do the teacups too and Star tours is star wars, The 2 rides in World showcase we call Mexico and Norway

I'm also guilty of calling the "teacups" - Spin n' Puke. It's the most descriptive name.

My kids are guilty of calling the Haunted Mansion the Haunted House... but not since they've seen the movie....LOL.

Like most people, we say Teacups. Spaceship Earth is the Epcot Ball, Rio de Tiempo is the Boat Ride in Mexico, TTA is the People Mover.

I don't think shortcut names count (like Peter Pan for Peter Pan's Flight).

Is it still officially called MGM, or is the correct name Disney Studios?

I usually forget whose castle is whose (between WDW and DL) so I just say The Castle. (BTW, which is which? I'm too lazy to look it up right now - lol).

Hotels - I'll probably never remember that the Disney Inn is now Shades of Green, or that the whole complex is Port Orleans and there is no more Dixie Landings. My kids call the Contemporary "the monorail hotel", even though the monorail stops at GF and Poly also. (And I know people who call it the Toaster, too).

But I am happy to say that my whole family not only gets the names of the parks right, but even now knows many of the abbreviations I use in our schedules (MK, MGM, EpFW, EpWS, AK).

TTA is always The Peoplemover to us.

Also in Tomorrowland "The Race Cars" - what is that called ?

It's only through this thread that I realised Star Jets isn't called Star Jets anymore.

Some things just have silly names that I can't bring myself to say. What's that train ride in Animal Kingdom? "The Train Ride" works for us.

Once at the former Dixie Landings (which I still call Dixie Landings and always will!) I heard someone refer to the Sassagoula River as "The Sasquala River". He may have been right for all I know.

Almost EVERYONE in the UK pronounces Kissimmee wrong. They nearly all say "kissy me". One day someone will take them up on the offer :

My family calls big thunder mountain "The Runaway Mine Train" because when my sisters and I were little thats what we called it. It is more of a thing we do instead of miscalling the name. We also call the TTA the people mover cause when it was the "wedway people mover". It's hard to give up the old name. Personally it doesnt bother me at all when people call a ride the wrong name. As long as they enjoy the ride they can call it what they want.

EDIT: we also call the raceway "the cars" it is just easier. "tea cups" instead of mad hatters tea party or whatever.

It is the "The Disney-MGM Studios" or just The Studios, MGM is Metro Goldwyn Myer (sp?) the film company, so to just say MGM is not "proper"... But that is what we call it

I am guilty of calling "Dinosaur" at Animal Kingdom "Countdown to Extinction"... I was on the opening crew and it will always be "Countdown to Extinction, or CTX"...

I am also a Dixie Landings person. I can't get used to saying Port Orelans Riverside... It will always be Dixie Landings.

Speaking of FastPass -
I'm renting from Budget this trip, and I'm a member of their frequent renter club or whatever, which happens to be called FastBreak. I called the Budget Office at MCO to see where to pick up the car, and then asked if they had "FastPass" service. They probably get that question a few times in that office, because the agent just calmly said - "yes, we have FastBreak service here".

I also refer to the Studios as MGM, even though I don't even think that's it's name anymore.

One of my pet peeves, though, is when people call the Magic Kingdom "Disney World." Like, if I'm telling a friend I went to Epcot and ANimal Kingdom and stayed at the Poly, I hate it when they say "And did you go to Disney World too?"

Well I am one of the ones who call it the "teacups" much easier than the full proper name and everyone knows what you are talking about because there is only one teacup ride!! LOL

I also am guilty of calling MK Disney World but that is because that is ALL that was there when I was a kid - kind of just stuck calling it Disney World instead of the Magic Kingdom - kind of like a bad habit. I don't feel bad though because my whole family does the same thing and so do my friends. I just can't stand when people get irratated about people calling it that.

Again I am guilty of calling the Studios MGM - just easier to say. A girl at my work gets irratated when people call it that and again that is something I can't stand. Why get irratated about it - you still know what they are refering to if they are talking about their trip to Disney World.

I can't think of any others but I am sure there are some more that I call the wrong thing. Oh - one more - this past weekend while at WDW my sister's family went on Stich's Great Escape (I think that is what its called) and I constantly refered to the old one as Alien Adventure instead of Alien Encounter.

I thought the castle at Disneyland Paris was Belle's? Am I wrong?

We took Dniece Jonna to Disneyland when she was just 2 and a half. We gave her the Disneyland Sing-A-Long movie before the trip and the only ride she just had to ride was the "Coffees". She'd only seen coffee in cups like that and didn't know that they were called tea cups. We still call them the coffees when she is around.

We (being the good aunt and uncle) took her to to Disneyworld in May of last year. She was four by then. While she didn't ride it, she was fasinated by the billboard for the "terror of tower" and still talks about the "people hanging out" (if you've seen the billboard you know what I mean) of the terror of tower.

She'll probably always call those rides by those names and upset someone when she grows up for not using the correct name - LOL

We call Splash Mountain the Family Log Ride so that my youngest now 6 would be persuaded to go on it with us. She liked the Family Raft ride at Blizzard Beach so we thought that would help. We have a great picture on Splash of her with her head completly down hiding in my husbands lap and my older dd with her hands in the air.
