I got a mis-delivered package in my mailbox today. It is for a similar address to mine (same number, different street.) If I leave it in my mail box, will the mail carrier take it and deliver to the correct address? I would drop it off myself, but it is on the opposite side of town and I would rather not have to do that if I can avoid it, but I will if I have to!

That works here, but it is a small, rural area so I don't know if it's any different elsewhere. We got the wrong mail fairly frequently and just put it back in the box with the flag up.

One time, we located the rightful owner of a package and called them ourselves, just because it was 12/23 and we figured they wouldn't want to wait for the PO to redeliver.

The postman should take it. Just stick a note on it that says "wrong address, please forward." It should do the trick. A larger package might be trickier, but I am assuming it fit inside a mailbox in this case, so the carrier should be able to handle it.

Maybe I'll try that, putting it back in and putting the flag up. Thanks.

Did you get my light bulbs that were supposed to be delivered yesterday?

We have locked mailboxes at the end of our street with locked lockers for larger packages. There was a locker key in my mailbox but the locker it opened was empty.

If you can find the phone number for the person, maybe call them and see if they want to come and pick it up, rather than wait 2 more days for the mail person to pick it up and deliver it to the right place?

I tried, they must be unlisted.

Ha! No this feels soft, like a couple of t-shirts or something.

When this has happened to me, I've put it back in the box (or next to it, if it's too big) with the flag up, and I attach a post it note to the envelope or box that says "MISDELIVERED PLEASE REDELIVER TO: and add the address"

One time UPS delivered a wrong package to my house. Since they don't come to my house every day, I did drop it off at the proper house (The street behind mine). If it had been somewhere far away, or I didn't want to deal with it, I would have called UPS to let them know.

That's what I do. Never had that with a package, usually just with letters that may have gotten stuck to my mail.

Also if you can write 'misdelivered' on it and not wrong address. It can actually cause problems for the actual addressee otherwise. And, just leave it in your box with the flag up! :)

We get the wrong mail at least once a week. It is normally on the same street, just a couple of houses off. We walk that stuff.

Then about once a month we get the mail for someone that lives across town. We mark it and put the flag up. This works for both letters and packages.

You can just put it back in the mailbox with a note that it was "mis-delivered" or "not this address" on it with the flag up. The carrier will then pick it up. We get mail for the same number but a different street, 3 streets from us, all the time. Plus I used to work in the post office as a carrier and this is fine to do.

The other day we got 3 Highlight magazines in plastic. One for our address and two for different addresses. They were all stuck together as one, so I put the others back in the mailbox with a note.

Happens all the time to us - there are 3 streets with similiar names and the same house numbers. The 3 of us are always getting each others mail.
Sometimes I write misdelivered - please give to and an arrow on the correct address. Other times, I'll deliver it if I'm going to be near them.

I talk to our Postmaster often about it but since we don't have a permanent delivery person when our last retired, the temps just don't pay close attention and it continues to happen. It's why I've changed most of our bills to online statements.

A lot of times the mis-deliveries are due to the temp carrier. Plus if you have more than one person rotating as a temp on the route it makes it more difficult.

We received a package from UPS. It was sent to our address from a company in a small California town but there was no gift card enclosed so we had no idea who had purchased it. The buyer eventually had UPS track it and they discovered UPS in California had shipped another package addressed to us and inadvertently put our address on the other package as well. UPS sent a driver to pick it up and repackage it then sent it on its way to the correct recipient. It was a really nice wall clock and we enjoyed it while it lasted.

Yeah, that happens. Our Post Office had our subdivision as an "auxiliary route", the first delivery person back from their assigned route each day had to do our route. They said that happens with new subdivisions. I pointed out our subdivision was 19 years old at the time, and that was kind of "old" to be "new".

We had a package that was addressed incorrectly by the seller. UPS delivered it to some apartments down the street. We never got the package and I contacted the seller and let them know. They sent out another item - printer ink. Don't know if they got the money back from UPS for the misdelivered item. UPS just delivered it to someone with the same last name as us at the apartments. I sent UPS a note telling them exactly what the driver did. The address on the package was not even a valid address. So they picked the closest place to the address.
