I never use a voucher, but for upgrading tickets, like the OP's situation, the AP should start the day in November they first used the tickets. (Not the date they purchased them which is what the mistake was.)
You're right, as far as it goes.
However...
The fine line
mrzrich is trying to state is that an AP (unlike a Magic Your Way ticket) does NOT automatically start "counting" the day that a guest first uses it.
The AP starts running down on the day that you ACTIVATE it. You can use an advanced-purchased voucher or just outright purchase the AP on-the-spot.
But, that AP's anniversary date will (should) be the date that a guest picks up the AP (and/or activates it onto their
MDE account)
and the guest may or may not actually go into a park on that date.
Many guests will go to, say, Disney Springs and activate their AP a day (or more) in advance of going into a park.
Those guests' APs are already counting down to their anniversary date, starting on the date that they activated that AP, coming due one year in the future on the same date that the AP was activated.
OTOH, many guests DO activate an AP and start using it on the same day, so in that case, the APs anniversary date will be on the first day the AP was used.
Example:
AP picked up/activated into MDE account on Nov. 15, 2015.
It will be valid until and through the end of business Nov. 15, 2016.
As I said, it's a fine line.
But, one that needs to be considered if a guest is planning on using an AP at the far end of it's year of validity.
