How do you keep your formals and suits wrinkle free while traveling? I was planning on taking a formal for my daughter that cannot be ironed. Do you pack a certain way, use a garment bag, worry about the wrinkles when you get there, or is sporting wrinkled clothing the norm on a cruise (especially on formal night)?:)

Thanks for any advice!

I put the plastic bag over each individual item and it keeps them from wrinkling. Use either a garment bag or we have a suitcase with the separate suit side on a 30" rolling suitcase. DH's suits came to each cruise with us wrinkle free. Also the wrinkle release spray works good, not sure if you can use that on a formal gown. Never brought anything that fancy. I bring a Wonder steam along with me too. There is no heating element in it and it steams things as they hang on the hanger. Just a few tips.

WE have been very lucky....in many, many DCL cruises we have not had any problems with wrinkled formal clothes for our party of 5 (3 teens).

We just hang everything up right away and wrinkles have never been a problem.

We also pack them in plastic dry cleaning bags...they really do help.

I did the dry cleaning bag thing also. My formal dress didn't need to be pressed at all, actually all my dresses came out great.

Had to send hubbys tux out to be pressed and a couple of his shirts and pants..not a big deal. They were all back the next day and ready for dinner looking excellent. The charge is minimal and well worth it.

We always use the dry cleaning plastic bags to prevent wrinkles hen we travel....works great!

Thanks for all the great ideas! At the risk of sounding too dumb, I'm wondering if you get the dry cleaning bags from the cleaners or is there a store that carries them?

Thanks!

I just save them from my clothes that come back from the cleaners...I'll save a few if I know we are traveling soon.

The dry cleaner bags do work very well. They don't work for all fabrics. What I do is I hang up our formal wear right away. If the next day they are wrinkled I send them out to be pressed. Pressing is pretty inexpensive and well worth it.

I have a relative that says if you place a dry cleaning bag on the inside of the garment and then over the outside of the garment you do not have any wrinkles.

I just posted this info on another thread, its the price list for dry cleaning services on the ship. Since we'll be flying in the day before the cruise I KNOW our clothes won't stay wrinkle-free, so I've budgeted in money to get all of our clothes that need to be pressed, sent out to the dry cleaners onboard.

This was current June 2003:

Washing - Self Service Laundry:

There are three self-service laundry rooms on the Magic.
Deck 2 across from 2096
Deck 6 across from 6588
Deck 7 across from 7596

$1.00 to wash or dry. There is a change machine in the 2 upstairs laundry rooms. On the 7th floor room you get more time than the 6th floor. Bring our own soap from home pre-measured in Ziploc bags and dryer sheets in another. There are no dryer sheets available on the ship. There is no stain remover on the ship, so pack some. It's better if you wash on a Port day, because sea days are busy in the laundry. Guaranteed that the dryer will take 2 cycles. You can put more than one cycle worth of money in the dryer. i.e. you could put $2.00 for a load and it would dry for 80 min.

Dry Cleaning:

Pants $4.25
Jackets $4.50
2 piece suit $7.00
Shirts $3.50
Ties $2.00
Evening Dress $8.00
Skirt $4.50
Blouses $4.00

Laundry prices:

Shirts $3.00
Pants $3.50
Short Pans $2.50

There is a "pressing only" service at 50% of dry cleaning cost.
Regular Service is next day by 5 pm

Same day service add 50% of dry cleaning (picked up before 9am and returned by 5 PM)

Express Service add 100% of dry cleaning (call for pickup, returned in 3 hours)
