DS10 started wrestling this year. The matches are torture. Yesterday, yes Sunday, we arrive at 8:15 am to sign in. Match doesn't get started until 10:00 - so almost two hours of sitting around. DS has 3 matches - last one ends at 1:10. DH was in the hall in eating a hot dog because he didn't realize it was time. Since DS is new, his matches are brutal to watch. In the last one, the whistle blew and that other kid picked my son up and threw him to the ground! He looked like a lawn dart going head first to the mat. :sad1: I am supposed to be supportive of this? BTW DS has never been more content.

It is awful, isn't it? My 8 year old started this year, and I know how you feel. Not only is it brutal, it's loud, it's chaotic, there's all the noise and the whistles. What a way to spend your weekend. Oh well, as long as they enjoy it and no one gets hurt.. To be honest, I think the wrestling is monitored better than a lot of other sports. I've seen some of the worst injuries at soccer.

I also am a mom of two boys now 6 (W) and 8 (S). They both wrestle. 8 yo has since he was 5 and the 6yo has since he was 4 (he just practiced that year). The hardest part for me was watching my 5 year old (S) get cross faced (ask you coach) It is basically choked IMO. I was horrifed. But I started paying attention at every practice and then felt my job was to help him wrestle by telling him what move to do at the meet. I could yell louder than his coaches. NEVER< NEVER< NEVER let your sons wrestle without a coach to coaach them. DS S is very bood and gets a place every match. Mostly 2nd but two firsts and a couple of thirds. (even thoe he only lost to one boy) Don't worry to much about the time, if he gets to the third match that means that he didn't lose two and isn't out yet, most first year kids don't make it that far. Also about the time thing. When S went to state last year at 7yo. you had to be by 6am and we live 2 1/2 hours away and becouse he placed and got third they didn't get to leave tell almost 2am. that is a longgggggg day. Any Questions feel free to p.m. me. forgot to add I love it now. Mum of two pirates

Both of my boys wrestle in college.Have been wrestling since middle school. It is a good sport. Dont miss taking them to weigh-ins/meet the bus at 4 in the morning though :rotfl2: So glad they are pulling weight in another state too. :rotfl2:
