I am off work this next week, and DH suggested that I take my DD17 and DD15 for a girls only last minute trip!!! I have never been in the summer, so how is it? Will we hate the crowds? We would be there from 6-29-05 thru 7-3-05. I have a code by my name, so I could get CS for $95.00/ nite (yipee) :cheer2: , I can get a last minute package with airfare and rental car for $809.00 total for all 3 of us, and that is from Tulsa, and we NEVER get good airfare, so that is a super deal for us. I just need to figure out the lowest prices on last minute park tickets, and we will be set. I usually plan for months, and never go in the summer, crowded times, and I am really not sure I should do this, so tell me if I will regret it. I know I am asking the wrong group of people, you will all say go, because you all love Disney like I do, so tell me all the bad and good about visiting in the hot, crowded summer. Oh, I guess I had better make some PS's!!!!! Thanks!!! :bitelip:

that's GREAT!
to answer your question, yes it will be CROWDED!!! You're talking 4th of July weekend.....i think that's the second most crowded time of the year in the parks (after Christmas)...

so my advice is to get to the parks before opening to try to avoid at least some of the crowds.....and beyond that, just relax and enjoy and be happy with whatever you do or don't do.......it's just great to be there regardless of what attractions you get to...

1. You wear less, so you pack less. Really!(columbia swim shorts and tank tops for the family) Pack light.
2. YOU LIKE GETTING WET ON RIDES! You dry so fast you dont have to worry about walking around squishy for hours.
3. You encourage your family to browse through the souvie shops while walking across the park to the next ride -- they are suprised at your willingness to do this, you enjoy every bit with a big smile and a deep breath of nice air conditioning. (okay - I am frugal and they know it!)
4. You know to take the afternoon break. You visit the park after dinner and really enjoy the night. The park is open later during the summer.
5. The hot humid air slows you down naturally. Instead of complaining you start to enjoy the little nuances, those extra little things all over the place in Disney.... the detail, the gardens, the shops, the imagineering... there is no rush.... there is too much for one trip and you will miss too much if you dont slow down.... and what is vacation for afterall?

Enjoy.

and I agree with what Ishy posted!
Our big vacations have always been in July.
We leave Thursday !! If you see a woman celebrating her 5oth bd with a Mickey Mouse club t shirt and ears on....that'll be me!

If you Expect alot of heat and crowds, and afternoon eve passing storms, you will be ok. Slow down, take breaks, get there earrly, stay late, keep drinking water!

I just bought a great pair of Columbia zip off leg pants. so comfortable and quick drying.

Go for the comfort factor in packing! Afriend just got back , and said only 1 time did the heat bother her, she wore a shirt that didn't "breathe"

If you are prepared for the crowds and the heat, you won't be surprised, and you'll have a BLAST! :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

kiss your DH goodbye and head out for a great time. We just got back today and the heat is bad but not unbearable. It has been so hot here in PA gonna be 95 again today. We sweated and drank lots of water. Swam and rested in afternoons. We managed and would I go again in June? Heck yeah hopefully 2006. :cool1:

We have been at WDW in the summer and also at Christmas. I prefer going when the it isn't so crowded but sometimes it isn't a possibility. It helps if you have a plan.

Get up early, do the parks as soon as they open. (Most people take there time getting there and you can see quite a bit in the first 90 minutes.) Take a rest in the afternoon if you can. Head back in the evenings if you get a second wind.

Bring rain ponchos. It you have some inclement weather you'll be doing the parks with fewer people.

Just saying hello from another Tulsan. That is a great airline rate, I say go for it! We are looking at around $400 per person for Oct. - and there are 5 of us! :earseek: For me, a small price to pay (disneyholic), DH nearly had a stroke, but persistence pays off - I convinced him to go. :smooth:

Have a wonderful trip! We went last July and although the heat is bad, it's still Disney!

There is a thing called a Misty Mate that will really help. They are great! It's a little portable mister that you can use on yourself. They come in different sizes and weights. It really, really, helps to have one while standing in a long hot line under the July Florida sun! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

I found mine on-line. You can buy them at www.mistymate.com. They are pretty handy. :teeth:

Personally, I'd check E-bay after you have an idea of which one you want. It never hurts to find a better price! :Pinkbounc

I just wanted to add that there are also little hand held fans that mist that you can buy in the parks. I have bought two and they both stopped working within minutes. Maybe one of the other Dis'ers will know of a reliable brand for those! :rolleyes1 I hate spending money on something like that and then it breaks right away!

I really love the Dis!!! I knew I would get alot of positive responses! :flower:
Ready to go in Tulsa.... I actually live in Muskogee, but of coarse we fly out of Tulsa. We usually drive to WDW, and all our destinations, since it is so hard to find cheap airfare from this area. We have 6 in our family, so it really adds up. I wish SWA would give Tulsa some of those great rates that I always read about!!! Have fun in Oct.!!! :earsgirl:

I have been to WDW twice in July and this July will make three. I have been to WDW many, many other times but in March and April and just have to say that going down in July is my fav. I can tell you that there will be crowds (as always) but the weather won't bother you. You will be so caught up in the excitment that the heat won't feel as bad as it really is. Plus, the water parks and the pool help too. You should be VERY excited!!!!!! I now I am.

Just as you have heard over the years, wear 100% cotton, loose fitting clothing. And don't wear black, like a black top. (HOT!!) Anything other than cotton you most likely will regret.

Hmm, that sounds like fun! If you don't htink you'd use the meal plan, then take a look at mousesavers.com for discounted pricing on the MYW tickets (Ticketmania and another company have matching pricing -- but you might not have time to receive the tickets so it might be worth buying from Disney directly).

(If you're going to get tickets from Disney anyway, then take a look at hte meal plan and figure out if it's a deal for the three of you. Maybe, maybe not -- you can take a look at the menus and prices, and figure out whether it would be a savings to buy that many food credits per day. It would be $113 total (incl tax and tip) per day for three adults for 3 snacks, 3 sit down three-course meals with drink ( or 3 buffets) and 3 two-course counter service meals with drink....if you normally spend that or more on meals, it's worth getting; if you normally spend less, you might consider how *much* less and if that amount is worth upgrading your meals to fancier restaurants you don't normally visit (eg you couldn't do a meal for three adults in Le Cellier very easily for under $100 with tax and tip, let alone the other meals and snacks which come with the plan!)....

I'd think that for a last minute trip with a code anyway, it might be easiest to add the tickets and meal plan -- that way your budgetting *and* your essentials (tickets, food, hotel) are all taken care of at once.

Just my 2 cents~

but I thought that you could not use a code with a package. I thought that if I took the pkg. with dining, then my room rate goes back up to rack rate. Am I wrong? If the room rate does go back up, that would offset any savings that I may get with the dining plan. But, if I can keep the code rate AND have the dining plan, that may be worth it. ;) So, anyone know if I can use a code with a pkg. that includes dining? I would love to know! :flower:

does anyone know? can I get the dining pkg while using a code for the room? :sunny:

I hate the heat (had a heat stroke at 13) and just can't bear the heat and humidity with all the crowds...we went in July and would not do it again. But if heat is not a factor for you then I say go for it! Like you've been told, just have a plan and prepare for breaks during the day. What a wonderful hubby you have!
