wow....Toyata halts sales including the camary

I watched Nightline last night, they had a clip about it. It was so tragic, the 911 call from the Highway Patrol officer (off duty in his Lexus) before he crashed. :( They had no idea how to get the car to stop.

My brother sells Toyotas. He just left Honda, where he was a manager. I'm worried for him and my SIL. I hope Toyota is able to get this figured out and back on track soon.

Look at your VIN number. If it starts with a J, you DO NOT have one of the recalled vehicles. All "J" numbered series Toyotas were made in Japan.

The VIN can be seen by looking at the dash from outside your car on the driver's side. OR, look at your proof of insurance card. It's on there too.

I was told that is only true on the Rav4, vin #'s are not the way to tell if you have the affected gas pedal or not on the other Toyota vehicles.

If anyone is worried please go to your local dealership with your car. It will literally take them 5 minutes to check and see which pedal you have.

If people research and educate themselves on what is actually going on and not just listening to the media they will know that it is NOT ALL TOYOTAS that have the defected gas pedal. Right now the dealers have been instructed to take all their vehicles with the bad gas pedals, put them to the side and wait for further instruction. The other Toyotas with the Japanese pedals have NO PROBLEMS and they are selling those vehicles.

Oh and I said the defective gas pedals are from the US/Canada. What I mean by that is it is an American company but the product was manufactured in Canada. I just wanted to clear that up.

Nobody is saying that. This a separate problem. It is a problem in the throttle-by-wire system which is made by a US company.
And for whatever reason they're still trying to keep that part quiet :confused3 (and is this my husband? I didn't know you were on the Disboards! ;))

And these are the cars that are oh-so-much better built than anything Detroit can put together... :confused3 :rolleyes1

Just sayin'.

Just repeatin'. :thumbsup2

Well, the ones with the issues are the ones built in the states.

Just sayin'.

:confused3

Built exactly to Toyota's specs. If they weren't, Toyota would not have accepted the parts.

We have a car and truck both GM with over 130k miles each and neither has been towed. We have owned lots of other GM products with no problems.

My next new vehicle will be a GM product.

Thank you. :flower3:

-------------------------------------

I heard 5 more models were added to the recall this morning, but I didn't catch the details.

I do have a '96 Ford Explorer that has never been towed. It only has 40,000 miles on it - but it has never let me down like the GM products ALWAYS did.

wow...can I ask how you have a car that is 14 years old and has only 40K miles on it? That's less than 3000 miles a year or about 58 miles a week.

I have the 2007 Camry with 88K miles on it already.

LOVE the car! Will buy another Toyota in a heartbeat. Recalls or no recalls.

I never understood that if someone has a favorite make of a car why they need to then bash another brand. Seriously, there is something out there for everyone. Why the need to bash Toyota?(I'm speaking in general, not to anyone specific posting here) Almost every car company has had problems or recalls of some sort. Personally I like German cars the best, I would never go around bashing GM's or Ford. Is it that some think people should only buy American? I am asking an honest question because I have seen it here and on facebook how people HATE Toyota and I wonder why waist such a strong emotion on a car company?:confused3

Just an FYI, I have had 21 new cars in the past 17 years. They have been just about every make from a Chevy to a Mercedes. I have had problems and issues with just about every single one of them except a select few. Right now I have the new Camry and a 2009 BMW M3. I love them both for different reasons.:thumbsup2 My first Mercedes was in the shop more times than I can count, but my 2nd was a dream and never had a problem. So even the same car company can have one model with problems and another that is just fine. It doesn't mean the whole company stinks, KWIM?
