Wow... new Kindle is coming out soon

Wow, they look great! I wish they offered some kind of trade in deal because I would in a heart beat!

And I agree, the library lending should seal the deal with Kindles. I already borrowed my first book on mine and it is beyond easy!

Wow! Very interesting!

My 80 y.o. gma wants a Kindle so I will tell her to hold off for a few. My 82 y.o. gpa is pressuring her to get one, because he thought it was soooo cool that they could take the Bible everywhere they go, with other books. :rotfl:

Can you access the internet with this new one? I remember a while back a lady told me that one of them can access the internet anywhere, and with another model it was limited. I am not too technically savy (cant you tell) but I want to get my dd one for Christmas. Any help would be appreciated.

All the info we have is based on their description. And it said to have Experimental Browser. Now in regards to speed or convenience nobody knows yet since it's not released. But I'm sure there'll be tons of reviews as son as the items hit peoples hands.

We're already a 2 ebooks household a Nook and a Kindle. I'm excited to hear what people thinks about the new kindles. If the reviews are good I might jump ship to kindle, but all that remains to be seen :surfweb:

It blows the Nook away, and gives certain iPad users serious pause...

There's a wi-fi only version and a 3G version that's more money.

I'm not computer savvy either, but I just checked out the Amazon website. I could be very wrong, but it looks like there are a few models - some with wi-fi and one has 3G. But, the one with 3G is the black & white one that looks more like an e-reader then an IPad? That's how I read it at least. I'd like to get oen for my kids too, but I'd want one that was color and 3g. There are rumors that after the holidays they will come out with one with a camera too - so maybe I'll have to wait for the kids birthdays. :confused3:

went on the website and the Kindle Fire looks great too, similar to an Ipad with color screen, web browsing etc for $199 I think I might need one of those :)

When I clicked on link it said free wi fi...My Mom has been asking about these...she has no computer and it would be a struggle teaching her how to find a wi fi spot, etc., but she would probably like this..it said this is the special offers one..how does that work..do ads pop up and interfere with you reading?

The ads are your screen savers. They do not pop up when you are reading. I've heard they've had some great deals on the ads as well (like discounted Kindle accessories, amazon gift cards etc).

If the user doesn't have easy wi-fi access you would need to get the 3G model, then they can download anytime, anywhere. From the looks of it the FIRE is only Wi-Fi, but if you are just looking for the ereader then the Nook Touch 3G is the one you want.

If you look at Barnes and Noble, they have reduced the price of the first edition nooks to $89. I'm a nook person so had to check!

dont forget with 3 g someone has to pay monthly service usually about $30. UPDATE: SORRY...AMAZON PAYS FOR 3G. COOL.

the fire looks cool but i might be tempted to pay more for the 32gb touchpads on craigslist or ebay...or hope to still get one at firesale price of $150.

like the 7 inch of the fire though.

I've never paid for 3G service with any of our Kindles... the pages on Amazon say that the 3G service is still free

There is no charge to the customer for 3g. Amazon is paying for that. If it had a web browser in it, I'd want the 3G one for sure.

wow. didn't know that bout 3g. i'd get that for sure then! go amazon!

:cool1:

I just wanted to mention that I noticed that in the description for the new Touch 3G model, the experimental web browser is available "via wifi".

This is different than the description for the K3 (or Kindle Keyboard)'s description. On that page it says simply the EWB is free.

I opened a thread on the Amazon discussion board last night, and someone is checking with Amazon directly, but it's not clear if the newer 3G kindle will still support web browsing via 3g.

You will be able to download books via the bookstore via 3G - that is clear.

I just thought I'd let you know before you decide on that model simply for the 3g web browsing.

I will update this when Amazon responds to the question.

Thanks pjtjm!
I sure would love to hear that as well.

Well not it looks like I need to do more research. Just when I think I know what I am going to get my kids for Christmas a new gadget comes out. I was going to get them an Ipod touch but now I am not sure.
