told me one of my cousin's finally gave birth!!

Her story is a little unusual lol. First she has three kids (two boys and a girl) and was "supposed" to have her tubes tied after her last baby (1 yr 2 wks ago)..however the hospital messed up on some paperwork and said she'd have to come back in eight weeks to have the surgery. Of course wouldn't you know she got pregnant again one week before that eight weeks lol...ok not funny, but what are the chances?! Fast forward a few months to her first ultrasound. She casually asks the tech if it is a boy or a girl since she wants to surprise her kids and the tech says, well this one is a boy...my cousin was like what do you mean THIS ONE?!?!?! The tech gently breaks the news that she is having twins!!! At this point my cousin almost has heart failure...previously they had only heard ONE heartbeat, the other little stinker was hiding lol.

My cousin is of course freaked out though she should have realized this could happen..both her mom and dad are twins. Now she has had an amazingly easy pregnancy and made it to 37 weeks!! On Turkey Day she was feeling sick (she has been for the last two weeks cause she is well..HUGE) and finally around 9pm went to the hospital. Good thing because within an hour she went from 3-8cm! Here are the baby stats:

Baby Girl born 1138pm Thankgiving Day..weighed 6lbs 9oz.
Baby Boy born 1200 midnight the day after lol...weighed 6lbs 15oz.

Now for the names (recall she is keeping tradition in our family for err...unique names lol)..the boy is Rhett while the girl is Beau...she swears she has never seen Gone With the Wind but I have my doubts darn it!!!

My aunt said it was crazy in the hospital room with the new babies, the older kiddos (both under 7) and my cousins last child who turned 1 just two weeks ago..she is deff gonna have her hands full to say the least!!

Wow, what exciting news. I can only imagine how freaked out she must have been to learn she was pregnant, and then with twins on top of that.

Congratulations to the family, and I think the names sound great.

Awww, congrats to her! What a story to tell them and her grandkids:goodvibes I really like the names too.

Oh and one other thing, she was again supposed to have her tubes tied again...the hospital told her just last week that "supposedly" her insurance says she had to pay a grand up front before they would do the surgery (its BS since she has BCBS and Medicaid!). She was still trying to get that fixed before she went into labor lol...so still no surgery and boy is she mad...and paranoid now! I don't think she'll let her poor DH near here until its straightened out lol!!

How cool, though that the twins each have their own birthday. I was hoping for that with my twins, but no go.

I like the names, too, but would have gone with Katie Scarlett for the girl.

Well, congrats on two healthy babies.

Now....While no one is a bigger GWTW fan than I.....She named a GIRL "Beau"? Does she know what it means? :confused3 This is a head-shaker to me. If I saw this on paperwork, I'd assume they were boy/boy twins. If she'd named it "Bo" like Bo Derek, that would be one thing, but "Beau" is a gender specific name with a feminine counterpart of Belle. It's like naming a boy "Pretty" or more to the point, "Beautiful." The little girl has just been named "Handsome"....as in "a handsome male."

I truly don't mean to be harsh and I know it will come across that way in print, so I apologize in advance. I post this more because I am mystified as to whether she had any idea of what the word actually meant or whether instead she'll find out down the road and say to herself, "Oh....I wish I'd known that before I named her... I just thought it sounded good." Because it goes beyond it being a "boyish" name. It's a word that is used solely to describe males and not females. My guess is that she had no clue.

No offense here lol...I have NO idea where she got the name...my aunt said GWTW but my cousin swears she has no clue what we are talking about and that she has never read the book or seen the movie. I was like where else did she get those names lol? That was the only place I have ever heard Rhett. I agree, my aunt and I were like huh when she told us the spelling Beau vs. Bo. But whatever makes her happy lol..

Well ....now it is no longer just a boys name. lol

Years ago we had neighbors who named their DD Carson.

I had no idea about that...I know TWO female Beau's!!! I always loved it for a boy's name, and when I met the first girl (in one of my classes in college), I did think it was unusual for a girl. Then I met another one, and thought it must be normal!

OP, great news! Very unique names. My brother's best friend is named Rhett.

:scared1: Wow! I'd be freaking out too! Congratulations to your cousin--I'm sure she will be happy with all her babies once she catches her breath. Hope she has some help with the kids.

I think if I were her I'd find a way to pony up the $1000 before I left the hospital. She is faaaarrr to fertile :rotfl2:

Thought for her...sounds like she had the babies the biological way, no scalpels required? So to have her tubes tied now would mean surgery when her babies are tiny, and that's not super-fun IMO.

I have read over and over that even though it can seem convenient to have one's tubes tied while at the hospital, or even "while we're in there" for a scalpel-required baby-arrival, it's the WORST in terms of success of the surgery. The body is on a healing-up binge, and can heal up the tubes like no other time.

So it's probably good that they haven't done it yet. She should give it a bit of time, and keep her husband away from her; she's got more needy people to help out right now...an adult male can deal with his own problems on his own. IMO.:upsidedow

Nope, not normal. People name their kids things that are far from normal all the time, or we'd have a lot less interesting threads to read. :rotfl:

As Americans, we're not used to the concept of words being "male/masculine" only or "female/feminine" only, as they are in other languages such as French or Spanish. It's common in other languages......You have a word (say, an adjective) that is masculine and you don't use that word for a female, period. The word will have a feminine form and you wouldn't use that word for a man. The very word you use indicates to the listener whether you are speaking about a male or a female. Word A is masculine and word B is feminine.

Since Beau is French in origin....the spelling alone would give that away......and it means "handsome" (not beautiful) and is for a male only, it's not in the same category as a name like Leslie that used to be a boy named but has morphed into a girl name. It's not even the same as a name like Logan that can go either way, although it clearly started out as a boy name. Beau is handsome for boys and Belle is beautiful for girls. There are some secondary definitions for Beau, but they're for males as well. You know how you sometimes read the posts about women who have named their baby girls "Female" (pronounced like fuh-MAH-lay)? Well, that's bad enough, but it's like tagging a boy with Female.

Anyway, as I said, it's mainly a head-scratcher for me. If people start naming boys Female in the coming years, I guess some will say it is now a boy name and perfectly normal, but I will still scratch my head in puzzlement. :lmao: The girl named Beau is probably not doomed. Being named Beau will not curse her for life, the way some names can. :headache: She will only get curious looks from people who people who think, "But that basically means handsome man. Why did they name her handsome man?" :confused3 It's a curious choice more than a horrible choice. And plenty of people have no clue what Beau means, so they won't think a thing of it.

But if I'd wanted to name those twins Rhett and Beau, I'd have stuck the girl with Rhett. A boy name for sure, but not in MEANING. And as for the OP......I'm with you as far as being skeptical the mom has never seen/read GWTW. Maybe she fell asleep when it was playing and it stayed in her head subliminally. If she starts naming pets things like Tara, Prissy, Ashley, or O'Hara, then the truth is out. If she starts letting loose with "fiddle dee dee" or "I do declare", you have your answer. If some Halloween she dresses the girl in green velvet with a curtain rod across her shoulders and draws a mustache on the little boy, she can claim ignorance of GWTW no more. ;)
