LOL, I think it means she was a liar...sorry if that offends anyone but I did not believe her story from the word go.

Probably took a settlement (or offered one) and ruined her credibilty.

I think that she lost faith in the system. She did file a civil suit recently.

According to the reports, she no longer wants to testify against him. I think the reason being she felt the system no longer supported her from the beginning. Without her testimony it's all hearsay. She is going through with the civil case though.

A civil case would be much easier to win and it is likely it will never go that far because he will probably settle to avoid the publicity and time involved. IMO, she is a liar who is seeking monetary gain. This turn of events does not surprise me.

I agree with mt2. I've read where there have been numerous breaches of confidenitality against her.

I don't know if she is telling the truth or not. But I do think she should've been afforded a proper criminal trial without those breaches.

DH and I thought the same thing. We actually thought that she sets up the criminal case first, then drops it just in the nick of time so the civil case would go a lot easier for her.
But, there's always the possibility that she did feel persecuted and victimized all over again by the system, and she really couldn't go thru with it.

Either way, I'm glad this will soon be over with. It's dominated the news for far too long.

if the prosecutor obtained a conviction in the criminal case, the alleged victim wouldn't have to prove liability in the civil case. it would be res judicata, they'd go straight to the questioin of damages. so dropping the criminal case doesn't help her civil case unless there are weaknesses in the civil case -- the standard of proof in the civil case being "preponderance of the evidence", not "beyond a reasonable doubt".

I'm not speculating on whether or not the case was legit. But this woman has been getting death threats since they "accidentally" leaked her name as the accuser. I think she could very well have a real fear of what might have happened if the prosecution had won the criminal case and Kobe had gone to prison.

I just saw some of the statement that he made afterward. He apologized to her for this past year. He also said something like maybe she didn't see it (sex/rape) as consentual (sp) like he did.

Is that not rape then? Does this also hurt his side of the civil case? I really don't know the law. Could he be retried, if she get the nerve again?

I'm not trying to start a debate. I just wanted to ask a question.

According to some lawyers I saw on the Today Show this morning, the case has most likely already been settled and the civil suit will be dropped soon. They say the statement he made was probably agreed upon by both sides. That statement sounds pretty fishy to me – how can he understand how she might think it was rape, but it really wasn’t? C’mon! I really think she just got tired of the whole thing and didn’t want her name dragged through the mud any more so she took the money. But none of us really know what happened, so I think it’s kind of unfair to call her a liar.

I thought her case had more holes in it than a sieve does, until I heard he said that. I thought it a little strange that she was raped, then went out and had sex right afterwards with someone else. That made her look like a gold digger to me (kinda like the Boy who called wolf type). But for him to admit he can see how she thought it wasn't consensual, admitting to it AFTER the case was dropped, makes me wish he'd see jail time now.
