i think so ! it asked me to protect it with a pasword

If you click on the icon in the start up tray for wireless connections, then show something like available networks it should show yours up, under the name you have given in with secured and you need a password. You should also be able to see if you are picking up anyone else's network too. Worth checking because you don't want anyone being able to access your computer though from the sounds of it, it sounds like you have made it secure.

Well done you, I cannot do it myself, oldest son does it because he is the only one that knows the passwords for the router.

its a piece of kit called a router! you attach it to your modem and take it from there, the router cost less than 50 quid.
