WOW - I just sold my old gold........

What happens if you have small stones in your ring and you send it? Do they just keep those?

Not sure as I didn't have any stones in the gold I sent. I think someone else has mentioned this in some of the other postings on this thread. You could either go back and check some of them, or just call USGB and ask.

My package is on the truck for delivery to Goldfellow today. :cool1: Hope I get my call soon.

Regarding "Herringbone" jewelry -

Just found some necklaces that appear to be gold filled but aren't marked, and yet I recall the packaging saying they were some sort of kt. when purchased years ago.

Anyone know if they're all marked?

How do you figure out pennyweight versus ounces? Ive found some other old stuff that I want to send but wanted to see how much I might get first.

Also, how can you tell about chains if they are gold or gold plated?

As a PP noted, look on the endcaps of necklaces/bracelets for the 10, 12, 14, 18, etc. kt hallmark (stamp). Some older pieces (think family heirlooms) may not be hallmarked. Look for hallmarks on the underside of rings, charms, pendants, brooches, earrings, etc. More contemporary pieces may have a trademarked hangtag with the hallmark.

Here is a link to a site for weight conversions.

Follow the directions and you'll be good to go!

Interesting... I just called USGB and said I had some silver and gold and could they please schedule a pickup. He said that they don't pay for silver to be sent and I have to send it and pay for it myself. Not a big deal, but I thought others may want to know.

Got my call from Goldfellows. They offered me $257 and I accepted it. To be honest I was hoping for more but I know that some of the things I sent in were probably not real gold. On my settlement it said that I had no platinum and I know I had a platinum ring. I hope I'm getting that back. Be interesting to see what comes back to me. Well, at least it's $257 more than I had yesterday.

Thanks again to the OP for sharing this with us.

Would any of you experts be willing to offer an estimate on the value of my gold? I took it to the PO to weigh today...

1.7 oz 14k
.2 oz 10k
misc. GF (maybe .1 oz) (Is this worth anything?)

I was thinking of using USGB, but would I do better with GF since I have less than 5 oz? I don't even know what the value of gold is at the moment---has it gone up at all recently?

TIA!

I got my offer from USGB on Wednesday and received the check today!:cool1:

GF = gold filled (i.e., gold plated). Both websites say not to send it.

Here's a link to the website for converting weights (ounces to pennyweights):
http://http://www.metric-conversions.org/cgi-bin/util/convert.cgi

After you do that, multiply the pennyweight by the current GF or USGB rates for an estimate at today's prices. I'm guessing USGB rates are about 20% lower than what is listed if you have less than 5 oz.--could be 25% lower.

And the prices listed were for today. They fluctuate with the commodity price--mostly downward lately. The payout offered to you would be determined by the purity of your gold (it isn't always exactly 10K or 14K) and the price on the day they process your package.

Thanks for your help Taja. I tried your link and also typing in the address, but I cannot get to the site...

There are a number of weight conversion websites, but if you just go to google.com and enter in "How many pennyweights are in ____ ounces" the answer will come back. Pretty straightforward.

Alright, I sent in 13 gold chains in several lengths, 8 different charms, 6 individual earrings )not matching, a gold stick pin. I sent these in today so I am anxiously awaiting my offer tomorrow. I pretty much think no matter what they offer I will say I was expecting it to be more and hope they offer a little bit more.
btw I sent it in to USGB.
I will update with my offer tomorrow! Wish me LUCK!

Has anyone sent in any watches? I have a couple of watches (don't know if they are real gold or not) that I was thinking about adding to my package. TIA

Wow. I just read through most of this thread and am so shocked  at the pay out yall are getting. I've seen these "we'll buy your gold" ads on tv for months now and have always thought it was a scam or too good to be true but after seeing this thread I am becoming a believer. I'll be getting my gold together soon and reporting back to fill yall in.

BTW, I'm new here so HOWDY YALL> :wave2:

Just dont send to the ones in the tv ads. Best bets are USGoldBuyers and Goldfellow.

I downloaded the instructions for sending my gold to USGB......it says call for a pick up and then tell them you need supplies? Am I supposed to wait for the Fedex guy to come and get the supplies from him and then fill everything out while he waits? That doesn't seem right.....any help would be appreciated:)

Ok when you send to USGB do you have to print out any forms to send with your stuff? When you call fedex do they just have everything and you just put your stuff in the envelope or what?

Just sent mine off to Goldfellow! It was all stuff that was just sitting around.
I can't wait to hear what they say!

After reading through this thread for a while now I finally sent my stuff to GF and my package was recieved today!! Very excited while I wait to hear the amount, thanks to all for posting their experiences with selling their gold. :)
