WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I've been watching this thread for awhile. I'm still nervous about taking the plunge, but of course would love some extra money. Are the two that were just mentioned (USB,Goldfellows) the most reliable? :scared1: reputable? I didn't realize that Goldfellow offered the DIS incentive. Help me take the plunge!!! Thanks!!!

I've got my stuff sorted and sitting on my dresser. I printed out the stuff for GF; I just like the ease of operation with them and I don't have that much that any difference in payout would be that big. Now I just need to take the plunge. Not sure what is holding me back. There is nothing there that I have worn in 5 years and nothing I see myself wearing. I will probably send it out this week.

This is what I sent today:
1 18kt herringbone bracelet
2 14kt thin necklaces
1 14kt ear ring
1 14kt charm
1 14kt toe ring
1 ? ankle bracelet
2 10kt rings

Will let you all know when I do. :thumbsup2

Regarding "Herringbone" jewelry -

Just found some necklaces that appear to be gold filled but aren't marked, and yet I recall the packaging saying they were some sort of kt. when purchased years ago.

Anyone know if they're all marked?

Take a deep breath, call Fedex, and schedule a pick up. Trust me, no one was more worried about it than I was, but it really is on the up and up. I work with credit cards, so I see all the scams people get wrapped up in every day, and I was super worried about this. Then I got my check for $2724!! I am now scouring the state for gold!!

My problem with USGB is that they would have to come to my work. I just can't stop everything on a dime - I work in a Dr.'s office. Can you schedule it on a day of your choosing? Is it really that big of a difference between the two?

You can send it yourself through the post office. That is what I did via registered mail just yesterday. No worries about scheduling pick ups with Fed Ex and the minimal cost it was to send my items really didn't bother me.

I just looked and realized I don't have the envelopes for USB or Goldfellows.(I have Broken Gold and Gold Kit) I'll order that next. Which do you recommend, and I also didn't realize I needed to schedule a pick-up. Is there a charge for that or is that a cost on their end? Thanks for the help!

I used USGB because the paid more. All I did was call Fedex for a pick up ( I scheduled after 5 and they told me he would be there between 5 and 8pm), their (USGB) website shows you how to fill out the form, they pay for shipping. All you have to do is say "thanks" to the Fedex guy, and wait for a call from USGB!!!

I have been readig this thread off and on and gathered up some old/broken stuff, not really too much. I am trying to figure out if it is even worth it. I have only @1 oz on my kitchen scale, is it even worth it????
Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm thinkink I should go GF for the extra 10%, that much I figured out:lmao:

Subscribing-

And am seriously tempted to raid my stuff to see what's worth setting aside for $$$!

Thanks for the thread....

You don't have to schedule a pickup or even pay to send it via the post office. If you live near a FedEx/Kinko's, stop in there and pick up a FedEx padded envelope, airbill, and plastic peel and stick pouch to insert the airbill into. You just have to complete the airbill according to USGB's instructions, insert the airbill into the pouch, attach the pouch to the envelope and drop it back off at Kinko's. You can also drop it into any FedEx drop box. Make sure you pull your copy of the airbill form off before you send it so that you have the tracking number.

This is what I did and USGB had the package in their hands the next day!

Thanks, Barb. I didn't see their instructions for that method. I only saw the part about calling and scheduling. I need to go back and look again.

I went back and looked and could not find this option. The only thing I could find was to call for a pickup.

Can i just mail it to USGB, through the post office at my own expense? has anyone done that?
THANKS!

See my posts above. I suppose you can mail it in at your expense, but why do that? When you send it via FedEx using USGB's instructions, it is shipped overnight at their expense. I would check with USGB before mailing it, they may require you use Fed Ex.

OK, i got some Fed Ex shipping supplies. I had a question, the packaging says the liability limit is only $500? So if it gets lost, they will only reimburse you up to $500? I believe i have more gold than that.
THANKS!

When I sent mine, the instructions I received from USGB stated the following:
"If the value of your shipment is more than $5000.00, we advise to use
USPS Registered Mail with signature required. U.S. Gold Buyers, Inc. will reimburse all of your shipping expenses."

Have you received your instructions from USGB?

How do you figure out pennyweight versus ounces? Ive found some other old stuff that I want to send but wanted to see how much I might get first.

Also, how can you tell about chains if they are gold or gold plated?

I have a digital kitchen scale where I weighed mine and then googled the information ("How many pennyweights are in __ ounces"). If you don't have a kitchen scale, you can go to the post office and use their scale.

Also, how can you tell about chains if they are gold or gold plated?

Usually chains will be stamped somewhere at the clasp ends if they are gold (you'll probably need a magnifying glass to see it). I've also heard that you can try putting them near a magnet and if they don't stick, chances are they are gold. I would send them anyway. These gold places will usually return anything you want them to return.

What happens if you have small stones in your ring and you send it? Do they just keep those?
