WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Yes, it sounds like right now there is really no rhyme or reason..they are so swamped.
What I wonder, is if they are sorting by the date a package arrives, or perhaps by the weight of the package??
(as in the heavier ones getting priority over lighter ones..)

You may be right - they probably need the money themselves to pay for their payroll that is probably skyrocketing.

Not really fair but oh well. It's not so bad for me because I only had a little. I sent my first shipment to Goldfellow and had a great experience.

I am happy for those getting quick response but I feel for those like me who get to wait sooooooooo long to get ANY response.

My understanding (after my phone conversation) is that really, they did not get very many "small" weight packages before all the publicity hit. I mean I am sure they got some, but nothing like the deluge they've gotten since the wall street journal article. And I'm sure all the business from the disboards has added alot, too!

The lady I spoke with during my payout conversation with USGB was very positive. She said they really appreciate all the business, and she apologized to me for the delay (which I really didn't have one).

I still think that if you can wait on USGB, they are paying out by far more than the others I checked into.
I will use them again if I send in more for my mom!

Okay...Just an Update

I just got my call from USGB (72 hours to get call).

I was a bit disappointed.

I weighed everything on my gram scale and converted it.
In my estimation I was supposed to get around $1500 (I was highballing -of course- at $1800)

I did have a couple of stones (including the junk stone in my class ring) but not that many.

In any case my payout was $1291. Nothing to turn my nose up at but also $200-$500 less than I figured.

I'm just sad that I already checked behind all the cushions and in every drawer for gold just lying around :guilty:

I want to take the time to thank the DISboards members (ONCE AGAIN!) for another wonderful money saving (money making in this case) tip!! I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!   :worship: :worship:

And I would also like to take a moment to formally announce that my family and I have decided on another WDW scheduled for Sept.'09! :cloud9: (fingers crossed for free dining!)

Do you mind telling us what you loot weighed??

Sounds to me like they're doing it by the weight. IMO, they should be doing it by the date it's received.

Actually, if gold prices are DOWN a bit and they think gold prices are going to rise, it makes sense that they are cherrypicking the shipments for the heavier lots. Why wouldn't they pay less for the most gold today if they can, right?

OTOH, if they think the price of gold is declining, I bet they put off processing the heavy packages so they can pay even less two days from now. In that case, they'd prioritize the smaller packages first.

Maybe that's why it seems like there's no rhyme or reason?

TheLittleRoo...did you really mean 2 grams of gold? That would only be about 1.3 dwt (pennyweight) per a conversion chart I found (1 gram=.643 dwt). Or did you mean 2 ounces of gold?

D'oh!! Yes, I meant 2 ounces of gold! And get this: I was so shocked to see the FedEx man in record time at my door, I forgot to enclose the method of payment form and everything! I did put a slip of paper in with my contact information (hand printed) before giving it to FedEx. Now I'm mad at myself because I surely added a delay on my processing! I don't know if they'll accept a fax or if I have to mail in the original. Or if they have time to talk to me and tell me what to do about this! GRRRRR!!! I hate when I do stupid things!

OK I am so excited. Not knowing what stuff I had was real or not. I went into NY to US Goldbuyers. The guy laughed when I told him I was disboards, he said it was so funny that Mickey Mouse people talked about them. My payout was $1460 minus the $8 for parking but hubby did meet me there and we came home together. It was a great experience. Hubby is done laughing at me know!!! :cool1:

Just viewed my settlement with GB:

26 DWT of 14 k gold - $378.04
silver came to $39.65

Didnt get the 10% dis -- just sent them an email asking if they will add it on (I did not it on the shipping slip).

How does this compare to USGB?

GB was very fast. Rec'd package this morning, and I already have my settlement, same day.

Hey, well that is alot more than most places pay..but its alittle over $14 per DWT. USGB pays quite a bit more than that.

Still..its like found money!

It was less because of the purity level. Most of the items are not 100% pure gold.

I also just got a call today from Jessica at Us Gold Buyers. This is my second time sending stuff to them so I knew not to get my hopes up too much. My first stuff I sent in did not come to what I thought it should but after hearing their explanations it did make sense and they seem very professional.
My stuff was delivered on Wed March 26 at 9:27 am and I got the call today Friday so they are getting faster. I only had $80 worth of stuff this go around, that is why I am posting because of the talk of maybe they are picking through and getting the larger packages first. I don't know if that is true since I only had a couple of items. $80 is better than nothing at all though so I am satisified with it. Lisa in Indiana

Rats. Dont know what to do. Reject and send to USGB and take my chances? Or just take the money and run. It is found money after all. What would you all do?:confused3

Has anyone had USGB call on Saturday?? I think I saw someone post they did somewhere on the 50+ pages of this post. Wondering if they're working saturdays w/the amount of packages they're getting. Seems like people are having 2-3 day turnaround.

Do you know what they paid you for the silver dollar, i have a few and im wondering what they are worth?
THANKS!

I had the one ounce silver dollars and I had 3 of them. I'm really not sure what the break down was but for the silver alone I got 158.00 and all I had was the 3 silver dollars that were one oz and then 3 silver necklaces which I'm sure didnt net much and then that bar of silver that was probably 5 ounces. If they send me a breakdown with my check, I'll let you know. Oh, forgot about the class ring too but most of the 158.00 came from the silver dollars and the bar of silver, the other things wouldn't have weighed that much at all.

OMG!!!

Ok, when I first talked to DH about this he pretty much rolled his eyes... then I procrastinated for a couple weeks reading this thread and trying to decide which company to go with. I picked GoldFellow because of the turnaround and the reputed great customer service. Well, I sent it Wednesday am- they got it today and just called to say settlement is ready to view and got the 10% Disboard+. I told DH that $200 would be great and I was lowballing the number to be safe and not be disappointed. IT WAS $741!!!

Here is what I sent and the breakdown--

1 very thin &broken 14k bracelet
1 10K ring
2 thin ropechains 14K
1 thicker 14K ropechain with 1 inch cross pendant
24K 1/2 ounce gold coin pendant (from my DH's "I think I'm an Italian wise guy" days)
no offense to Italians in any way :)

Their $ breakdown:
1.6 dwt 10k = $18
19.1 dwt 14k = $302
10 dwt 24k = 420

That 24k ridiculous coin pendant was more than half the payout!

Shocking. And so fabulous.

Have a great night everyone!

Hi all! Just wanted to update-
I sent in approx. 2 1/4 oz of mostly 14k gold on Monday to USB. They got it Tuesday at 3pm. I was called today around noon. The man I spoke with (didn't get his name) said one bangle bracelet (that weighed 1/4 oz) was not gold as well as one ring. I asked for them to send that back. He said he would deduct $14 for that. So my payout was $597.
I really was expecting around $700-$750.
I didn't ask for a breakdown because I was in a store when they called and it was a bit loud in there.
I don't know if they'll send a breakdown or not.

As everyone else said, it was just junk taking up space in my jewelry box anyway................

I have been reading some of this long thread and it is very interesting ...
I have seven 14k gold bracelets and 4 "thin" gold rings ...
My DH says it is silly to think that any of it is worth anything ...
I will never use any of it ... DH did not even know I had them (they were from my high school days ... along time ago.)
Should I send it in ??? How and where ??? What might it be worth ???
Thanks for any advise ...

But is IS worth something! You'll never know til you try! Send off for a free Fedex packet (I would go with Goldfellow- they are super easy) and if you just think low in terms of what you might get you will almost certainly be pleasantly surprised then when they show you the offer. How about $100. That's pretty low. I should think you stuff would be worth at least that. ;)

I sent my FedEx package off today to USGB (I've had the info for a couple of weeks...debating about whether or not to do it) and it's due to arrive on Monday afternoon. I'll post again with more info when I hear back from them...gonna be a long weekend, LOL! :)
