Is all gold labeled as such? In other words, if its real, will it say 10K or 18K or whatever it is?

I have lots of pieces i thought were at least 10K, but some don't have it inscribed.

If it was made in the US or made for sale in the US, it should be hallmarked somewhere. Usually on the endcap or clasp of a chain or the under side of a charm/pendant/pin. Earrings can be just about anywhere, but usually on the back of the most substantial piece that's reasonably unobtrusive.

Most US gold jewelry tends to be 10K, 12K or 14K, with some 18K. Most European gold begins at 18K. Always, exceptions, of course.

And if it isn't hallmarked, don't toss it! Some older pieces are not hallmarked--ditto for some from other countries. Ask a dealer to test it.

I sent away for the goldfellow kit. Some of my gold is 18K ( from Italy, but it is not stamped ) Do I package it with the 14k???

Paypal did charge me a fee for the deposit goldfellow made yesterday. Almost $6. And it says its an e check so it won't clear for 3-5 days. I would have been better off having a check mailed to me. Probably would have gotten it sooner and wouldn't have paid the fee.

I just saw that too, and this is after I was told they cover the paypal fee. I emailed them and told them I'd rather have a check...you should too.

Anyone know if they take gold coins too-I have an 1915 2 1/2 dollar gold coin.

Be sure to check on the numismatic value as well as the bulk gold value of your coin. If it's in rough condition, it may only be worth the bulk gold value, but if it's in excellent condition, it could be worth more.

I too have some gold coins but have no idea who or where I could take them for an appraisal. And just as many have mentioned in this thread, even if you find a place, how do you know you can trust them? Can you give an more info? Thanks in advance.

You might want to see if there are some local numismatic clubs. They may recommend some dealers over others. As with everything discussed in this thread, have your coins evaluated by more than one dealer. Also, check on the internet to see how condition is defined and if there are any online dealers who would provide a preliminary quote based on photos. Nothing binding, but it might give you some idea of the value.

You can look up most any coin on eBay and see what they are bringing. Of course the condition of the coin plays a big part in the pricing, but at least you can see what the minimum and maximum prices are. My husband has been collecting coins since he was six. He is not a dealer per se, but he buys coins, sometimes whole collections, and scrap jewelry, too. I just stumbled across this thread and have been amazed after reading a few pages. It's sort of sad to see people parting with their collectibles, but I guess if the jewelry or coins are nothing the individual is truly interested in, it's smart to convert the items to cash.

I was also going through USGold Buyers but when I called Federal express they told me I had to put the shpiping charges on MY Credit card, the info I read said that US Gold Buyers pays to send items to them so how did you guys do it? Maybe I got a wrong answer. Thanks! Lisa

On their website, their account number is on the example form. You mark to bill receipent and put in their number. I went to Kinko's and got mine mailed out in time for tonight's pick up. I just had to fill out the form and drop the package in their box.

There seems to be a problem with PayPal as this is not our program with them. We pay PayPal - not our customers. Please don't worry. I will have our Accounts Payable people contact PayPal first thing in the morning and we will rectify this immediately.

I 'thought' I got a good deal at the pawn shop I sold it at last week. Now I am thinking I could do better. Anyone know if I have any sellers remorse recourse to get my stuff back from a pawn shop. I got $200 more than the local jewelry shop so I took it.

LOCAL vs. MAIL-AWAY ---

The mail-aways pay more because the local, independent jewelers and pawns are ALSO sending gold away to the refineries.

In other words, jewelers and pawns are *MIDDLE-MEN* so they must pay LESS to us the customer so THEY TOO, can make more when they send our stuff to the refineries.

Do you think thats true? I don't know but it makes sense to me. Thoughts?
