WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Not sure if this is a good deal or not. Friend of mine had a gold party today and I had the following to sale:

14kt

Thin necklace (couldn't wear if I wanted to as it is all crinkled)
Coin Ring (from Middle School Days)
Philadelphia Flyers Charm (from a charm bracelet)
Small Wedding Band with 7 teeny tiny diamonds (really tiny ring)
Gold Wedding Band

10kt

2 Pink Ice Rigs
2 Class Rings (mine & my husbands)
1 Black Onyx Ring
1 Men's Gold Nugget Ring
1 Small Gold Nugget Ring (wore on my pinky finger)

I was offered $380.00 for all of it (it only weighed 1.9 oz on a postage scale and of course that included all of the stones). I told them I would think about it - there's another party on the 14th if I decide to take the offer.

What do you all think? Good Deal or Not?

Thanks!

Personally, I just take the cash. It is less effort for you if you do not want to go thru mailing and waiting for money. that being said,I WENT TO usgoldbuyers (im in ny) and was satisfied.
As another person said, you can send it in and if it does not seem right, get your stuff back......
Good Luck with decision.

i am the one who originally started this thread - about 2 years ago...anyone i have been going through all my drawers trying to find some more gold so i just sold 2 pairs of earings 1 large pair 1 small, and about 2 or 3 charms..brought it to the mall where i did last time a small kiosk place and i got $147.00 - not bad! wish i had more!

I just wanted to share my gold sale with everyone.... I had a few pieces of old rings, broken necklaces, bracelets and a couple of good pieces too. For about 6 months I debated on selling them. WELLLLLLLLLLL last weekend I took my gold to the mall. First place was a kiosk that buys gold on the spot. She quoted me $612 then I went to a jewlery store they quoted me $589. Thanks to Disboards I had heard about US Gold Buyers
I called them on Monday to see about getting them to quote me for my gold. They sent me an email with fedex airbill number. Yesterday I sent them all my gold (overnight) they received it today and called me back with my quote of $1068 WOW I couldn't believe it they gave me so much more than the other 2 places I had been to. This will come in handy since DH lost his job 2 weeks ago .....

Sorry to hear about your DH job loss!

I have to look into US Gold buyers - sounds like a great find

I just sent in a couple of pieces to USGB on Tuesday. I'm hoping to hear back from them today or tomorrow. I'm not expecting much but with trip coming up in a few weeks every little bit helps.

I called them today and my check has already been mailed.... Very smooth process with great customer service :)

I agree every little bit helps :)

Congrats!! Its amazing how much of a difference in prices you can get! I just sold a TON to a jeweler friend. I was going to go with USGB but she was higher (she is not buying from unknown sellers). I got a check today for over $3000 I am beyond thrilled. Always shop around for prices!!!

Has anyone sold silver to USGB? I have about three pounds that I want to get rid of.....my jeweler does not buy silver.

I dotn even care what I get for it. If they said $300 I would be ok....at three pounds....thanks for the info.

Thanks for all the great info on this thread. I have some gold jewelry I've been wanting to sell but didn't know how to go about it. You people rock! :cool1:

Stephen at USGB called me this evening and offered me $278. I'm still in shock, I only sent in a chain and a thin wedding band. Both weighed less than an ounce. I figured I'd get $100, at best.

:cool1: :cool1:

After going throug this entire thread and then gathering up my few pieces of gold and then letting it sit for a few weeks, I finally took it to a newly opened gold buyer in my town just to see what would happen. I sat there and she tested everything and offered $342. With that, I said I wasn't ready yet and walked out. Called US Gold Buyers the next day and sent my stuff in. Got the call and was offered $412.
Very happy with the higher price, but also because I never thought it would be that much. Thanks to those who have posted in the information in the thread. :thumbsup2

If you have any more, try selling them on eBay. They're going for more than that.

Is'nt anyone worried about what they send off to a stranger??? like will you get it all back? are they giving you your worth on what you sent in? couldn't they "lose your stuff" or say they sent it back when they didn't? Or maybe you didn't get quoted on every piece, etc..?

I see these commercials & think "who would just send off their wedding rings etc. like that?" that's pretty trusting.

on a side note: The mall places usually don't give you what its worth...
My cousin found a set of antique jewelry buried in an old sofa she found at a thrift shop while her father in law was reupholstering it. She didn't like the yellow color of it & the ols style, as it wasn't her taste. She took the earrings, necklace, and ring into the local jewelry store in which the guy, playing it so cool, offered her 50.00 for the set, saying it wasn't much (realizing she didn't know much about what she had in her possesion)

She took it, thinking it was tarnished and old and she needed the money.... after she walked out she thought more about it, a half hour later, went back in and he had already put the necklace alone in the case at 1000.00.
She was so upset and still kicks herself to this day over it. He was smug and just shrugged his shoulders when he saw her expression and questioned him.

She had an antique citrine 18kt antiqued gold set she let go for a lousy 50.00! She thought it was costume jewelry cause she did't know the stone in it.
I told her If I had known, I would have given her @ least 100.00!! :rotfl:(I love citrine)

I have a few questions before I do this. Here is a list of everything I have, question 1. can I send all this in ? question 2 what do YOU think it may be worth based upon what you had ? Question 3 do you have to remove the stones ? Is the value the same with or without them ?
Diamond tennis braclet, 3 thin rings, ruby ring with 6 very small diamond, 2 charms, and 3 thin chains.
I know I have more but can't find it, so I will start with this.
thanks

just called and am sending some stuff in to add $ to the christmas fund. Some old necklaces and bracelets and earrings. I will let you know how I do

My stuff is off, sent it yesterday... now the strange part of the story. First I went to a little store that sells stuff and is a Fed Ex pick up location. The guy said is this gold - the location kinda gave that away - he goes on to tell me he buys it... long story short he looks at it. Tells me that I have 14.3 penny wt of 10K and 3.0 penny wt of 14K. And he will give me 161.70 for it. So I take the gold tell him I will think about it go call USGB and tell them what I have and ask for a price.... $350.00 Apprx. So I find another Fed Ex drop off, as now I don't want to go back, since he knows what I have, send it off and now waiting. It should arrive today, can't wait to see what they say. Extra Christmas cash for me, hopefully...:)

once usgb receives the package, how long are you all waiting before you hear anything from them? my package has been delivered and signed for this morning. so i am curious how long it takes.

thanks
