Unfortunately yes.

I am deathly allergic to pine nuts, to the point that my DH doesn't eat them ever, just in case.

Oh, no! How tragic! This is why I don't mind at all that dd's school doesn't allow snacks containing peanuts. The risk is too great, since such small amounts can still be so deadly.

I just keep wondering why there's so many of these allergies all of the sudden...never heard of it until just a few years ago when it became a big deal on airlines - even working in schools 10 yrs ago I never came across anyone - it's just been in the last 5 yrs or so....just so weird to me...

I don't know why there seems to be an increase but my DH is allergic to nuts and back then he seemed to be the only one - we always say he was allergic to peanuts before it was cool. He is very sensitive to nuts so we have to be very careful. If I eat nut products I make sure to brush my teeth immediately after and to wash my hands. I also make sure my DS does the same. I don't believe my DH would die if I kissed him after eating a Reeses' PB cup but I know it could trigger a reaction so I try to be very vigilant. I really like nuts/pb products so I keep a stash here at work and that is where I eat them.

It is unfortunate that this girl died. I can't imagine how bad everyone involved must feel.

Same here. When my son was little, I felt like we were the ONLY ones in the world with a peanut allergy. Now, I feel like it has become so prevalant (he is almost 11). It is scary that it is becoming more common, but it also does make it easier on the person with the allergy. Knowledge and familiarity equal safety.

It does seem like most of the peanut allergic kids are younger than my 13 yo ds as well. He always seems to be breaking ground - most recently as the first peanut allergic kid at junior high. He was the first in his preschool and the first in his elementary school as well.

We have been talking to our son about peanut breath and peanut oils in cosmetics for the last several years in preparation for when he reaches dating age. Hopefully he and anyone he would be kissing will know to be careful. What a tragedy for everyone involved!

What I don't understand is if the kid had eaten a peanut butter sandwich how the girl couldn't smell it. I can smell peanut butter breath for ever it seems when people eat it. It is very sad and I am sure the kids is devastated with what happened I just hope the family doesn't turn around and start blaming him.

How horrible. So tragic. Poor boy, can´t imagine how he´s feeling, though it obviously wasn´t his fault.
