Wow! Christian Bale has some anger issues!

The DP is a high ranking person on a set.... there is no need for other crew members to step up to Mr. Bale... the DP can handle himself...

now you are blaming the crew....:confused3 :scratchin and the entire industry??

Scratch your chin all you want, but I would NEVER, EVER stand by silently while a co-worker threatened to kick the a-- of another coworker while he was simultaneously screaming profanities at him. I simply would not stand there and watch that and NOT say a word. And I would expect those in charge to speak up and put a stop to it immediately, and discipline (or fire) those who acted in such a way. He threatened to BEAT THE GUY UP! Did you listen to the tape? Are YOU allowed to act like that in the workplace? Is anyone? I realize this is Hollywood, so the rules are clearly different, but this disturbed actor's behavior in the workplace is simply indefensible — as is the behavior of his cowardly colleagues.

That's about all the inclination I have to discuss Hollywood today.

I just can't help but ask if the people who are so bent outta shape over this actually interact with real people on a daily basis. I mean REALLY? You don't get angry, no one else gets angry? And I have worked with a few doctors who could be quite a handful thank you very much. I remember my oral surgeon cussing out his office staff right before I had my wisdon teeth pulled. Acting is a profession whether or not you have a high regard for it or not. They get paid as much as they do because someone thinks they are worth it. He got angry (or rather furious) and went off- its not like he physically assaulted the man.

Yep, get angry all the time and so do some of my co-workers. The difference is in telling someone you are angry and why and verbally abusing someone. And if my boss cussed at me for ANY reason, he would be doing the job all by his little lonesome because I will just turn around and walk out.

I have a very high regard and admiration for the talent of actors. Most use their talent in positive ways not to verbally abuse those who are trying to work with them. The guy he was yelling at is part of a profession too and Mr. Bale cannot do his job with out this guy and all the other little pions running around the set. Sounds to me like Mr. Bale needs to show a bit of admiration and respect for professions other than his own.

Yeah, he uses a lot of F-bombs but its really not that bad if you listen to the whole thing. He cusses the guy, complains to the director and then tries to calm down to do the scene again. Then the guy who made the mistake says something that gets him going again. CB is trying to explain why what he did was a problem, but the DP actually seems to have a very "oh, sorry, so what" type of attitude.

I'm a high school teacher. I interact with hundreds of people on a daily basis - and I mean really interact. :lmao: I would be fired for dropping the "f" bomb even once - and so I should be!

Are there really office environments out there where it is acceptable to physically threaten and verbally berate your coworkers like that?

Holy cow! That is awful. No excuse to treat anyone like that.

Film sets, theater and I'm sure other places are not like your typical daily job. I've seen actors yell, cry, complain, freak out, scream, run away, have break downs. invent ridiculous conflicts, and throw things at people. I've seen directors, designers, and technicians have screaming matches.
I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying it happens. I don't participate, In fact I walk away if this happens.
And these are not A list peoples, in fact there may not even be a letter in the alphabet to classify them.

I am not saying it's all actors either, just that it has happened with many.

Youtube Lily Tomlin behind the scenes footage of I heart Huckabees. Check that rant/tirade out.

I have loved Christian Bale FOREVER!!!! He is an amazing actor and really before Batman alot of people didn't really know him.

Did he go a little overboard yes he did but do we all know what really happened, how late in the day it was, how many takes of this particular scene they were doing how intense was the scene etc.

He also was having to deal with all the press for the release of Batman and how do you think you would feel having to answer a gazillion questions about your friend that died. He could have been having a bad day and this DP should have known better. He also kept talking back to Christian if you listen to the whole tape.

He did say that he was a nice guy but enough was enough and then the guy started in again instead of just walking away to difuse the situation.

I think it could have been a set up too but who knows. I just can't wait for the movie to come out and this is not the first time an actor a good actor has done this. Sean Penn isn't easy to work with either and he is a great actor.

what about if your two bosses were going at it? That is a better analogy...
The DP IS in charge!!! LOL
:wave2:
BTW I am not defending CB... i am defending the crew....who you called "cowards"....

That guy will not see one dime of my money. I don't care how great of an actor he is. You don't treat people the way he did. I hope other people will stop seeing his movies. Take away his paycheck and see how great he is.

I'm actually sickened that anyone is defending Bale in any way shape or form. Had a bad day? Late in the day? How many times was it shot?

Are you people for real??????

I like Bale as an actor, but that is disgusting. He's a big damn baby who's full of himself and thinks he's better than everyone else. Not that I would have gone to see that movie anyways, but now I have a very good reason not to support it.

Any human being who treats another like that is a piece of garbage. Stop making excuses for the guy.

Indeed. There is a very clear hierarchy on a film set, the DP is second only to the Director (and possibly the stars). I would hesitate to interfere (not that I would NEVER interfere, but I had better be darn sure I was willing to possibly lose my job) in a shouting match between two of the most powerful people on a set - they'd both turn on ME and I'D get fired.

Not what anyone wants in today's work climate. Whatever is going on in other industries right now, it's much MUCH worse in the film/TV industry.

I am gobsmacked by those who would indict an entire industry of at least several hundred thousand people for the behavior of a few.

agnes!

Yeah, only 40.

No big deal. Everyone should be subjected to that type of work enviroment.

I just think it's funny that this story has legs. I mean, it's pretty common for meltdowns on movie sets. I have read a ton of movie history books, biographies, and other sources on the industry and this kind of behaviour is quite prevalent. The prima donna schtick is how they blow off steam and I doubt that the DP would have thin enough skin to let this ruin his day.

Note - I am not defending the guy, just pointing out that it's hard to translate what happens on a movie set to what happens in an office setting.

I was thinking maybe he takes steroids to bulk up for these roles and is experiencing roid-rage.

I really don't see anyone burning their Batman DVDs in effigy over this.

I'm a cool internet dude and my cousin's brother's sister's nephew's horse was on set and said it went down like this.

I don't really care what Christian Bale does because the truth of those actions will determine his future career but that article cracked me up.

Is there any evidence that Bale went off like that against anyone else? Or is there something going on between himself and this guy?

Personally, I can't believe that the public got to hear this. It's simple to me, it's none of our business!!!!

If you search online this morning you will find that some ingenious sound engineer has mixed his tirade into a hip-hop/rap single. It is seriously one of the funniest things I've heard in awhile!! I would give the link but found out recently that even with warnings it will get you points to link to sites with profanity.
