We had our ducts cleaned after doing some work in our house. They were pretty dusty and it does help keep down the dust. We put in wood floors too and the combination of no carpet and clean ductwork means we only have to dust every 3 or 4 weeks 
. The guy that cleaned the ducts said that unless you do any work in the house, especially drywall work, you should really only need to have them cleaned once.
