Wouldn't you love this for a souvenir

We just got back yesterday afternoon from WDW. Had a blast. Our driver to the airport had very interesting tidbits to share with us on WDW. You see, his Dad worked for Disney since '67. He started with them working on the building of Cinderella's castle. His dad had been after him for quite sometime to take an afternoon off (he was part owner of the car company) and play golf at WDW with him one day. Tiger Woods used this guy exclusively everytime he was in town and they played golf occasionally. This one afternoon the guy arranged to pick up his dad and surprise him by playing golf with Tiger. Unfortunately, tragedy stuck and the guy found his Dad passed away at his desk. He had a heart attack and died quickly. (This is so sad!)

Now to the souvenir part of the story--when he died he left his son a piece of concrete from the castle. Not that that wasn't an awesome souvenir amongst itself. It was signed by Walt Disney three weeks before his death.

The guy cherishes this piece of concrete as we all would. He did once put it on Ebay just to get an idea of it's worth. He was offered more than $21,000 not that he'd ever sell it he said. Wouldn't we all like this souvenir sitting in our homes!!!!

Wow! What an amazing story!! Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us! :)

Touching story and not to take away from it but I had read that the castle was made of glass bricks (fiberglass) not concreate.

The castle is made of steel and fiberglass. Saw it on the Travel Channel, so it must be true!;)

I was told there is concrete in the foundation area of the castle by the driver. His dad was a "concrete worker" working on the castle when he started in '67. I never realized the castle itself was made of fiberglass, etc. I do have to believe there is concrete somewhere in the base of that structure but I'm not a construction worker. Hmmm... This guy was very sincere and I really cannot imagine him making up the story. At least, I hope not!

Walt passed away in late 1966.
Groundbreaking for MK was on May 30, 1967 and the next two years were spent preparing the site (moving earth, dredging Bay Lake, etc.)
Actual construction didn't begin until 1969.

Ouch. Me smells a Cabby that's been takin' the truth out for a stretch!

Ouch--I think a certain person snookered my family. Boo Hoo! And I thought this was such a neat story and it's probably nothing more than a "bad fib." Wonder why people feel the need to "stretch the truth" (and I think I'm being nice)?? He had other interesting things to say. Needless to say, I don't think I believe any of it now. That's really a shame. I guess we looked "gullable" enough. Boo Hoo and shame on him!!! Sorry everyone. I had no reason to believe he wasn't telling us the truth or I wouldn't have passed it. My apologies!!

:( :( :( :( :( :(

Let's just hope he's never in a pinch for money and decides to go ahead and sell it on E-Bay .

Folks are trusting . . . On another thread not long ago, I saw where someone was trying to sell a "pass" that enabled the owner to ride in the front of the monorail. I seem to recall the bid was up to $25 or so.

As an ebay fan, the story smelled off to me. Not good practice to list something on ebay, get a bid and pull it. Very frowned upon. Maybe he thought his interesting tale would earn him a generous tip. :D

Don't feel bad...we always want to believe that people are telling us the truth. Honestly, some of the stories that I have heard from cab drivers - I hope most of them weren't true!

Maybe they just get bored and want to start a conversation for the cheap thrill of it...

It can be done legally. You just put an incredibly high reserve price on the item.

I did want to mention one thing. My daughter read my original post and she quickly pointed out to me that I had part of the story wrong. It was not concrete he had but an actual "brick." One will never know how close this was to being true if at all!

Did you use Tiffany Towncar? Was your driver's name Keith?

I betcha Keith strikes again ;)

Sounds like that cabby was full of it! Please don't fret about it as we have all been told tall tales at one time or another!

We also had a Tiffany Town car driver who shot us a lot of bull, but his name wasn't Keith. Can't remember it though. He was an older man. That story reminded me of him.

I'm still curious if it was Keith?
