Wouldn't it be nice if we earned points....for being extraordinarily GOOD???

I've seen so many people around here who have contributed so much - laughter, support, great information, a reliable shoulder to cry on, thought-provoking posts - only to have a bad day or get on the bad side of the powers-that-be and *poof*, they're gone.

Seems that, if they had a bunch of points in the bank, their single transgression might have only caused a little rap on the knuckles, rather that full term expulsion.

Food for thought, or maybe wishful thinking. :)

Vbulliten has this abitlity. Its called a "rep" system. The more rep you have, the more your rep is worth, and your fellow posters give you points. If you do something bad, you can be nega repped. Which makes your rep go down.

The dis, however, doesn't use this.

I could kiss some moderator butt to stay here :rotfl:

In theory this sounds wonderful, but the reality is that there are so many posters here that it would be very difficult to actually keep track of who is doing what. Not to mention that those things are subjective, anyway. What I would consider valuable in another poster you might would disagree with. And of course what would really matter would be what the WMs think, anyway. Otherwise it would turn into a popularity contest. Some of us offer a lot of support to others, but do it in a more private setting. Other people would try and earn a bank of negative points the wrong way. :rolleyes1

My very serious answer is even if it earned me permanent banning immunity, I wouldn't be able to do say and do things that I don't believe in...I say what I mean and mean what I say, even though I do try to keep my mouth shut when opening it won't serve a purpose.

If you are very good you get noticed and may get invited to become a moderator. Which is an unpaid job. And then you have to stay good. And have a tough skin. And be willing to work hard.

Is there a right way? :cutie:

I like the idea of positive and negative points. But you can't get them from other posters, either way. Can you just see it if we could give each other points? Charade and The Doctor could give each other infinity bad points, then all their pals would have to run in and start giving them good points to make up for it...no sense. Or we could all use alter-egos to give ourselves good points.

But mods could give good points, like they give bad ones. 'Course then you'd hear whining... "I was good and didn't get good points, but she got good points...the mods like her better than me."

I don't get the purpose of points on the CB. I could see on TPAS or Resorts and stuff. But for the most part, CBers know what they're getting into. BUT, I always support the mods, and not because I like them or they like me. They do unpaid work to help out around here, which is more than I can say for most of us. They deserve a break. When I get points (which I'm sure I will) I won't slam them. I know the rules and if I break them, I get the punishment. I'll live with it.

Worse things in life than points on a board. :)

And then sometimes even after all that you still get banned. :confused3

Sure hoping the new point system will aleviate the chances of that ever happening again........no one, I don't care who you are or how much you do or do not contribute, deserves to be banned with no warning.

Of course there's a right way and a wrong way, at least in my book. By right way I mean genuinely caring and helping others. Wrong meant doing it for some other motive. I'm a really bad brown-noser and always have been--I don't think I have it in me to do much for the wrong reasons. :rotfl2:

And yeah, when I got the mod warning (without points, I must add), I knew I shouldn't have posted what I did, even though I really didn't think it crossed the line. But in hindsight I knew. Rules are rules and I know where to play that I can be snarkier and I chose not to. And I really am old enough to know better, so it was nothing that I would dream of arguing and I agree with your point. :rolleyes1

I like to be good for the sack of being good. No need to reward me :)
Yeah, that used to be me, too. ;)

Hmmm....me thinks somebody is trying to 'be noticed'!!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Just kidding!!!

That's exactly what would happen, popularity contest central. :rolleyes1

There doesn't seem to be much that anyone can do when a WM or Site Owner has a bad moment.

You're toast then in any case.

I know, I know.....their site, their rules.....

I think I'd better duck under the radar again......:wave2:
