Would you work as a Census Worker?

I am not going to complain but really it is not my responsibility to keep the census cost down. I will answer what is required, the headcount and if they choose to knock so be it. But when I send in my headcount I will make it clear I have no intention of answering anything else.

If they choose to trespass on my property which is clearly marked,I hope they can outrun my dogs:)
jk

Great, fine, you do that, that just means those of us that DO answer the questions will get more funding and more representation for our areas--hey, knock yourself out-just don't complain when your fire department closes because it looks like there aren't enough people for them to service or your schools don't get funding for much needed programs because there aren't any kids living in your area.

My mom (67) worked for them last summer and in the fall (she will this spring too.) She said they send special teams to work the dangerous areas. But she still ended up in a few places that she didn't feel completely comfortable. The pros are good money, pay for travel time and mileage. The cons for her, just that they way overhire and her estimated work time ended up being cut in half at least. So they estimated her work time to be about 5 weeks, and it ended up more like 2 1/2.

After reading the responses, esp the one woman who had to bring her DH with her in a bad neighborhood-and this dog comment, I'm not going to do it.
Plus there are lots of unemployed peopel who can use the $$ more than I

I do think those refusing to answer are foolish:)

you quoted me but did you see my smiley, and the JK

JK = just kidding.

it was a joke, lighten up, I would never sic my dogs on anyone, plus they don't run loose,we do have restraint laws in my town :):)

joke people joke :)

umm my town does a census every year, they know who is here.

plus in case you missed it, I did say I would answer the headcount, so they WILL know how many adults and kids live here.
I am just not answering anything else.

Paranoia runs rampant. I could see it if any of the questions are intrusive. I read them and they seem fine to me.

yes you can say I am paranoid.
and I should explain what I feel is intrusive.
giving out birthdates, yes I realize this information is already "out there"

but I have had my personal information compromised by government agencies, I have had my personal information including social security number given out by accident to many people by a government agency.

I am paranoid about things like this. and it is just one more database of information that could be hacked or compromised in some way.
so that is what I have the most problem with.

so yes, once you have had your information put into the wrong hands by someone who should have been protecting it you don't know what it feels like.

It is not a good feeling.
I have had to have fraud alerts on my credit reports for awhile now because of it.

I won't answer any other questions than called for in the Constitution period. I find the Census Bureau to be giving false information in their Constituent FAQ on page three, they state there is a "$5,000 fine for not answering the census". There is absolutely no evidence for this.

The law they quote Title 13 section 221 calls for no more than a $500 fine and that is for giving false information. Otherwise it is a $100 fine.

When you have an agency that is printing and giving out absolutely false information, why on earth would you trust it to use your information in any way other than noble?

Yes I am paranoid, but I am part of a religion and orientation that was persecuted and exterminated because of that religion and orientation. No thank you, they get the count in my household and that is it. Any other question I feel is unconstitutional. It won't bother me if you fill it all out, but for me and my family we won't do it.

Great post:)

To the dog poster-even tho YOU were kidding, I honestly hadn't thought about loose dogs, and that does scare me.

My form came today. I answered question #1 only and put it right back in the mail. I was even standing at the time.

We havent had any issues with dogs in my area. But but my crew has delt with bears, some cows that had gotten out. And one mountian lion sighting. No bad neighborhoods in my area at least people wise.

Please have a little pity on those of us just trying to do our jobs. Unless your driveway has a locked gate, I'm coming up to your door (no matter how many scary signs I pass). If your big dog comes out, I'll try and make friends with him. (After three weeks, no bites yet...) If you choose not to answer the door, that's your perogative. Please know that if you don't send your census back, I'll have to come back again;). If you threaten me, I am required to notify the police (thank God I haven't had THAT happen...yet).

Thank you for your cooperation:).

Terri
(happy to have a job no matter how temporary census worker)

The government already knows a lot more about me than what I put on that form, and therefore it really doesn't bother me any. I'm curious though, what all the houses full of undocumented immigrants are gonna do. I can point out at least 4 on my block.
