Would you work as a Census Worker?

I have a question ... is this usually full time work, or part time work? All day or part day? I am thinking of doing this for some extra cash but my DD is out of school in June and at 10 she's too young to be a summer latch key kid and she has swimteam practice which gets in the way of day camp. Not to mention that any money I would make would be blown on day camp.

I'm a teacher that just got my hours cut. So, I took the test yesterday. I missed one so I hope I can get something. I need to pay for my Disney fix this summer!:lmao:

The only thing you are required to answer (by law) is how many people live in your residence.
This is absolutely true.

However note that
under US Code, Title 13, Chapter 7, Subchapter II: 13 U.S.C. § 221 : US Code - Section 221: Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

States that:

(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or
willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any
other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce
or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the
Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his
knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in
connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I,
II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to
the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or
farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not
more than $100.
(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a)
of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances
described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is
false, shall be fined not more than $500.
Just because they can DOES NOT mean they will.

We are only going to answer question #1 and tape a copy of the relevant portion of the Constitution that states:
Article 1 Section 2 of the US
Constitution states "the actual Enumeration (headcount) shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten years,
Any other question on that form besides question 1 is absolutely unconstitutional.
I encourage everyone to do the same. There is certainly NOT a $5,000 fine.

thanks, I was just going to go looking it up myself!

I am only giving a head count.
that is all they need.
I agree with you.

I don't see how any of the questions are in any way damaging. They're just trying to get a true count of citizens as far as I can tell.

its intrusive imo.

they only need a headcount.
they don't need to know what time we leave for work

Traffic estimates? Highway funding?

Truthfully, I didn't see a question about that.

The primary reason the census is required in the constitution is so that each state has the correct number of members sent to the House of Reps ...........its based on the population count.

For those that will not be answering all 10 questions, specificaly which questions do you have an issue with?

All of them but question number 1. The only thing specified for in the Constitution is an enumeration or headcount of all persons living in the US.

Want to ask other questions, propose an amendment and get it ratified by 3/4 of the States.

Not to be confrentational but what is the harm in answering the questions? Which questions specifically are an issue?

The census it to improve services offered. I do not understand why so many have an issue answering 10 questions.

For all those people that are concerned about how much the Census is going to cost the U.S. taxpayers, just know that you will continue to be contacted (mostly likely by somebody knocking at your door, because you are not going to be providing your telephone number) up to 6 times because you have not answered all the questions. Multiply that by the amount of people that don't answer the questions, and you will see how much additional money the U.S. government will be spending -- up to $20 an hour plus 50 cents a mile.

I would think that you would want to hold down the cost as much as possible.

Anybody that does this, has no right to complain when you hear how much Census 2010 cost to conduct.

I am not going to complain but really it is not my responsibility to keep the census cost down. I will answer what is required, the headcount and if they choose to knock so be it. But when I send in my headcount I will make it clear I have no intention of answering anything else.

If they choose to trespass on my property which is clearly marked,I hope they can outrun my dogs:)
jk

They've been asking detailed questions for a long, long time. This is nothing new.

You are right.
I didn't answer last census either. I actually did not respond at all and I don't recall anyone ever coming here either

Wrong once again:

http://2010.census.gov/partners/pdf/ConstituentFAQ.pdf

Right from the CENSUS BUREAU--see page 3.

Had you kept reading you would have found that there are fines for not answering other questions as well.

Again, why would you NOT want to answer these questions? This is how your local and state governments receive money for roads, education, services(police, fire, etc) and determines how many representatives your area receives. Foolish to not answer out of paranoia--unless of course you are afraid of being found out regarding some illegal activity or something?

My feeling is that it is the responsibility of all taxpayers and US citizens to hold down the cost of things like the census.
Really, I don't see the big deal answering 10 questions. I am still waitign to hear which questions specifically there are issues with.

I am a HUGE privacy rights advocate. I don't pee in a cup for a job, I don't share my SSN unless it's absolute necessary and I have been open mocked on these boards for not wanting to give Disney my DD's birthdate and not allowing Target to scan my driver's license to buy alcohol. That being said, I believe that the government has the right to ask the questions on the Census form. You know, it's not a huge conspiracy :confused3.

After reading the responses, esp the one woman who had to bring her DH with her in a bad neighborhood-and this dog comment, I'm not going to do it.
Plus there are lots of unemployed peopel who can use the $$ more than I

I do think those refusing to answer are foolish:)
