Would you want to know if your 13 or 14 y.o. DD was giving her underwear to boys?

While working on a school project my 13 y.o. brought to my attention that there was "something" in my 14 y.o. desk drawer ( he was looking for something that my 14 y.o. used last.)

I peeked in, and couldn't believe my eyes.

There was a hot pink thong! And this was some fancy thong, it had little mirror like squares on the front, a skimpy string like thing up the back and at the top was this metal butterfly decoration (I guess so it is seen sticking out the top of their low riders?)

First I determined that he wasn't wearing them!

Then my DH took him aside (because he was too embarrassed to talk to me about it) and determined that they were given to him by a girl.

But he won't give up a name. (I think I know who they belonged to, but I'm not completely sure.)

I guess my question is this.....is this the new thing, girls in the 13/14 y.o. age group are giving out their underwear to boys they like?

WTH?

And, would you as a mother of a 13 or 14 y.o. girl want to know if your DD was giving her thongs away to boys?

yes, if my 14 y.o. dd was doing that, I'd want to know.

I think you already know how I feel about this, Blondie.

If that were my daughter, she'd have some real explaining to do. :o

where was these 14 year old girls when I was 14

Back when we were 14, the only "girls" wearing thongs were pole dancers!

Well, maybe more important than the fact that this girl gave him her thong, is the question why she gave it to him? Is it a memento of some time they spent together or is it just young teenagers acting out on some new feelings that they aren't sure how to handle?

And I don't know about you, but a 13 or 14 year old girl wearing a thong just kind of bothers me. Maybe I'm old fashioned but shouldn't girls that young still be wearing "old lady underwear" or bloomers or whatever they are called?

OMG!!!!! You guys are scaring me. I've already been having nightmares about the teenage years with this baby and she isn't even born yet! I knew I wanted another boy!

How does that even come up in conversation? "Would you like a pair of my panties?" Especially at such a "young" age, I'm not THAT old!

To answer your question, yes I would definately want to know if it was my daughter! Good Luck!

I wouldn't allow my 14 yo girl to be wearing a thong like the one you describe. But, I am curious, how do you feel about your son accepting a thong from a girl and how did this all come about?? What did you or your DH say to him?

I would want to know if my daughter did something like this...but I would be just as concerned if I found my 14 yo son with it. (I am not saying your aren't concerned, but your OP just focuses more on the girl giving it than your son having it)

Well poohandwendy, my son was grilled like a hamburger.

We asked him why he accepted it and we got the typical answer from a 14 y.o. boy; "I don't know."

When we asked him how long he had it; "I don't know."

When we asked him what he planned on doing with it; "I don't know."

That's when I told him to get them and put them in the trash.

At that point, my DH took him aside, in private, and gave him a long talk.

I have no concerns that he is out there gathing an thong collection. And I hope that by now, he knows better than to bring another thong into this house again!

So, are you saying you'd allow your 14 y.o. to wear a thong, just not like the one we found?

The only thongs my dd will be wearing when she's 14 are the kind you put on your feet.:teeth:

My almost 13 year old DD has NO thongs, and has no desire to have any.

She looked at some once when we were shopping. She said, "Ewwwwww!!! These are disgusting!!! They are not comfortable, and how would you wear those when it is that time of the month?"

But if she were giving boys her underwear, YES, I would definitely want to know. Because I would think that there would soon be other things that she might give away . . .

Amen Sister!

Sorry, I didn't proofread the first part of my post.... I forgot the word, especially, in my post. As in, I wouldn't allow my 14 yo dd to wear a thong, especially like the one you describe. NO way, no how, no need.

I was only asking because your post gave me the impression that the girl was more at fault for giving it. I would be asking where this 'friendship' had gone and what she meant to him. I cannot control what other kids parents allow. But I sure want to know who my kids are associating with and why. The girl sounds like trouble (and that is her parents problem), I would be concerned about my son associating with her and what kind of situations he is involved in for this to take place (which is my problem). The bigger issue for me would be my sons activities, not that there are girls out there with loose morals (there always have been, there always will be).

Btw, I also have a 14 yo son who answers questions the same way...

Holy Cow...first of all, I think you handled this situation well.

My co-worker's niece is 15 and wears thongs...the jeans they wear are so low and her rationale is that you have to wear these otherwise you'd have inches of underwear hanging out.

I'm sure the parent didn't buy them.

Wow...my DS is 3 and if I ever found a thong in his drawer i'd hit the roof. It's just a shame kids are so eager to grow up these days. Don't they realize being young is a good thing?
