Would you try to avoid the 50th celebration?

My grandparents were there day 1 in 1971. I was 6 and my parents took us 1st summer in '72. They aren't with us anymore but I will be and will think of them that day!

I have my trip scheduled for October 20th (or may extend earlier) to December 16th. The true 50th anniversary only comes once so really want to be there for it.

That’s very cool and good way to celebrate them.

My folks went on their honeymoon to WDW in 1971, and celebrated their anniversary every yr since. They started taking me when my brother and I were adopted in 1987, and I’ve been there every yr since, including each of my 7 anniversaries.

No way would I avoid. However, our 2020 cancelled cruise is now rescheduled for that time so we will have to celebrate #50 a bit late.

My sister and I are surprising our mom for her 50th birthday to a wdw trip for Sept 25-october 2 and really hope we can get a ressie for the 1st. It wld be her dream come true! She has talked about this for a few years now. but either way I know we’ll have an amazing time

would have been. I was remarking that we are not going because we won’t get what we would have. But I hear you. It’s a little ways off. But do you remember the 25th. The whole year was spectacular. They decorated the castle like a birthday cake. It was an amazing year.

I remember the pink castle from the 25th, but not much else other than vivid glimpses of being on Main St USA, and glancing at the castle. No recollection of parades, shows, or ride memories. We camped at Ft Wilderness.

If we do miss the 50th anniversary this yr, and we probably will, the next time we’re there is probably next Sept. possibly May, but prob Sept. The celebration will still be going on.

Dont see them being able to have removed the social distancing markers by then.

I suppose they could turn the whole main area in to a zig zag viewing area with dots all over though.

I don't see it though. People have way to high of expectations on when things will be more normal imo.

I think you are going to need general and ease of availability of the vaccine most places in the US and then for so much time to pass.

Disney is going to be one of the last remove their policies I think as well. It makes them look good and saves them money.

It seems like every time we have been to Disney in the past, they were celebrating something. I think their PR department comes up with things to generate interest/excitement in their parks. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't see it should have any impact on deciding when to go. Honestly, Disney is crowded all the time (at least pre-covid), since it such a draw from all over the world.

We will be there in October, but later in the month.

We haven't been since 2017. So even if the celebration is scaled down, we don't care! I also don't think it will be as crowded as everyone is saying.
I also hope that fireworks will be back by that time.
No one has any clue what the restrictions will be by October, so I don't pay much attention to those types of posts.

We will be back at WDW after 4 years, hopefully enjoying some good weather, riding the rides, enjoying being around people, eating the food, celebrating Halloween and just thrilled to be on vacation!!!

I do hope that they'd do some sort of celebratory façade on Cinderella Castle, maybe a special little parade. Who knows on fireworks and shows. Am I expecting fireworks/parades? No, but one can hope. We went this past Sept, and had a great time without any of the shows going on, and the limited hrs. I wouldn't recommend the experience for 1st timers doing a once in a lifetime trip, but we had fun on our 110th or whatever trip. Never really felt unsafe. And now wife will be getting her 2nd vaccine dose this month.

Our flight out day, our flight changed on us and we ended up with just 2 hours for MK on our last day. I was the very first person to tap, and we rode 7D 5x before doing a half dozen other attractions, grabbing breakfast, and still made it to our ME apmt.

The length of time until the celebration is nearly the length of the time since we first heard about the virus. A lot can happen.

All of this.. exactly!! I was also there in September and it was incredible!! I agree I wouldn’t recommend for a 1st timer, but as aDisney veteran it was perfect! And A LOT can change from now to then.. so let’s remain positive!!!

So just as a follow up, I decided this week to pay $172 (a little surprised by the cost difference for just 2 tix) to move our PH tickets from 9/4 to 11/6 (through 11/12)... we wouldn't be there right on the 50th on 10/1, but now will be able to see the celebration, Ratatouille- after the recent news to delay the opening that late, going from 90s and wet to high 70s/low 80s and fairly dry. I didn't think about it being Jersey Week/Veteran's Day until right after, but I think in general that week's crowds shouldn't be too much worse, given a bit away from both Halloween and Thanksgiving. Been a while since we've been there that exact week though - 2015 (Thanksgiving the past few yrs though). It's also wife's bday, so I sold it to her that it'll be her bday and DW's bday. That week's pricing is between some of the higher rack pricing in Oct and Nov as well, so marginally higher than early Sept. Looking forward to the 50th festivities. Does anyone remember if it's still Fall pumpkin decor, tweener with some Christmas stuff starting to go up, or all Christmas? Honestly can't remember.

Christmas theming goes up right after Halloween. I can't remember what day though
