Would that be a task that you would consider tipping for? We bought the pool including installation. It was to be installed May 15 that date passed and had to keep passing due to the storms and high winds. Memorial day week they were going to come and they just did not. Now this week time frame the company was to come Thursday at 1PM, called me at 3:45PM to share they weren't coming. Stated would come Friday - never called or showed. Told me that would come really early Sat AM showed up at 1:45PM and said they would do it all in one day. They didn't. Told me they would arrive today, they showed up at 5:30PM, had extra guys, 5 total had the pool up in 3 hours, we are starting to fill it now. They did do a great job it seems, we are to do the back fill. One guy will return Wednesday to hook up the filter and that type of stuff and Viola done. I did enjoy the guy in charge of doing the job. So do you tip that? Thanks D

Good heavens no! Even if their service hadn't been so poor, this is not something I would ever consider tipping for. They are being paid to do the work. That is enough.

That's their job and they are getting paid to install. This is not a tipped position. However, I would keep some bottled water/or soda on hand and offer that to him. Of course a positive comment to his boss/company would be good too if you're happy with his job.

Usually I would say yes to this, but since their service wasn't good, I wouldn't tip.

I'm not one of those ppl who needs to tip everyone. I tip waitresses and the such but these guys are getting paid at least min wage I'm sure. No no need to tip.

Yes. The problem seems to have been with the company not the guys installing.

I do not tip people who do not work a "tipped" position. You paid for the service directly or indirectly, so nope. When this "tip" money gets handed out to everyone for everything there is no way for them to claim the income.

Yes, I always tip for these types of services if the workers do a good job. Yesterday I had a new microwave and dishwasher installed. It took over 2 hours and the guy did a great job. I tipped him $15.00.

Then they really must be hauling it in - no need for a tip. :confused3

Of course they can report tip income (I'm assuming you mean reporting to the IRS).

You were probably the first and only person to tip the guy who installed your microwave and dishwasher. I have never heard of that one :upsidedow.

I would not tip the pool installers.

No, I'm sure I was not. He was not surprised at all to get a tip. He had to haul an extremely heavy dishwasher up my very long, steep driveway and then up a long flight of stairs to get to my front door, as well as haul away the old one. He had to do the same with a (lighter) microwave, as well as install each. He also replaced a leaking valve I had under the sink for free.

In my circle, it is not unusual to tip for good service. I believe in spreading the wealth!

Thank you for your responses. Tonight one of the guys is to return to hook up the filter and the hoses in that area. He might do the back fill around the pool, I don't think that was included in the price. If he does that I will give him $. I did give water/pop and I did pay for pizza and get it for them due to them arriving 1:45P and staying until 9P. D

We have a similar situation. Our pool is so delayed that they came by with reissued contracts since the dates have past. There are many issues that have not been resolved.

I knew pool installations were stressful, so we hired the best in our area and also paid a higher price than the competitors. Our issues haven't been weather related though. They have admitted they were disorganized with our job and made some mistakes that cost time. We were supposed to be installed in 3 weeks and this is week 13!

There is NO way I would give them an extra money behind my contract. I've had numerous no shows and flat out lies. The boss would stop by on Friday and act surprised that no work was being done. Then one of his employees confessed that no one EVER works on Fridays, that those days are either off for the employee or they work the sales floor.

I just want my project finished at this point. I was told they were coming by today and getting a checklist from me on the work that needed finished and guess what....no one showed!

I definitely vote for not tipping. I don't think this even remotely qualifies as a tipping job. I would never have even thought about it if you hadn't asked.

I am actually relieved to hear that others have had difficulty with their pool installations too! Ours was a real nightmare! However, most things are settled now and we are enjoying swimming in this heat.

We did not tip our pool guys, but we do tip the landscaping guys (who are still due to come back one more time to finish a few things around the pool).

The drinks/pizza is a nice idea!
