would you take your toddler to Teppan Edo?

I just made reservations for Teppan Edo. I know dh, me, ds8 and dd6 would really enjoy it. My toddler will be 17 months at the time of the trip. I just watched the you tube video about Teppan Edo. It looks kind of quiet and you are seated with other people? I don't have a problem with sitting with another family but that family may not want to sit at the same table with kids, mainly a toddler?

Would you take your toddler there or should I find another ADR? We have a lot of character meals already booked for her , I was just looking to find something the older kids would enjoy?

Thanks!!

It would be appropriate to take a toddler to any non-signature restaurant in WDW. It is done all the time. If the other party or parties seated at the table have a problem with this, it is their problem, not yours. I don't mean this to sound harsh, but the Disney World restaurants are family places, and even a lot of the signature restaurants will have a lot of little kids present. Don't worry, and I hope you enjoy your meals.

Absolutely take your toddler! We were seated by a mother who openly breastfed her baby during the dinner. Everybody's got to eat! :lmao:

with the exception of the california grille ( and any other overpriced luxury restaraunt), there is not a single restaraunt i would not take a todller to at disney!!.......cmon its disney, its fine dining with 100 kids!!!!;)

We have a resturant right around the corner from us that is the same style and we go all the time. Toddlers, children and infants are always there. They cater to them more then us. They play games with them and we really enjoy it. I am not sure if Teppan Edo does the same but as far as I can remember from my middle child being a toddler there....she had lots of fun. The other families are usually really friendly and makes for even more fun. You should really eat there if thats where you want to eat. So much fun!!! Let us know if you do go and how it went.

As long as a child is not throwing food, running around the table, or screaming their heads off the whole meal, then a child at a restaurant is no problem. People expect kids at Disney World. As long as the parents continue to parent during the meal, then there should be no issues.

We took our toddler to Teppan Edo. Luckily she slept through the entire meal. It was the worst meal we had at Disney. We waited over an hour for a chef to come to our table. Everyone who had cold appetizers got them but the people who ordered hot appetizers had to wait for the chef. In addition I thought the food was okay. Not what people rave about on these boards. We also brought her to California Grill- where the waiter treated her like a princess with a fake mocktail, goldfish on a plate and confetti. She loved it. (Also to Flying Fish-) My point is that even though these are signatures- they were great with my child and we all had a pleasant meal. D

Does this mean that it wouldn't be appropriate to bring a toddler to a signature restaurant? We'll be there in January with our nearly 3 yr old daughter and had pretty much planned on doing signatures when we did eat at the restaurants because, let's face it, the regular TS places ain't great. I had assumed that with the exception of places that have an express age limit, kids of all ages were an expected part of the dining experience at Disney because, you know, it's Disney...

There will be well behaved toddlers at every restaurant except for V&A. Some of the signatures are not even very quiet (Ca Grill, Flying Fish, Narcoosees, Brown Derby). The others are definitely not as loud but as long as the children are seated and quiet, nobody is going to look twice. Citricos definitely has the most adult feel out of the signatures but even there, I have seen kids.

I think most dine earlier in the evening but we are from the West coast so we never dine before 7:30. I have seen young children in all of the signatures on the dining plan (not so much at the Swan/Dolphin upscale restaurants).

I would only bring a toddler if you can control them. Not fair to the other family if you cant and you also have to careful of the hot hibachi table which isnt usually an issue but toddlers can have very special moves

We do not take our toddler out for Teppan. The meal is a little longer than she can sit happily for and it makes it hard for us to enjoy the experience. I'd say hold off on teppan until baby is a little older for your own sake. It's not so much about other people (because of course you'd remove the child if they were being disruptive) as your own family being less likely (in our experience) to enjoy it fully.

You might want to take your child to a Hibachi style restaurant near your home first. I had made reservations for Teppan Edo for our prior trip and didn't think anything about it. Thought our 2 boys would love it.

Well, we attended a birthday celebration close to home at a Japanese steakhouse before our trip and my at the time 2 year old DS had a complete meltdown due to the flames. He totally FREAKED OUT! I've never seen him act like that ever. He was completely afraid of the fire. I ended up having to leave the restaurant because he was in total hysterics.

Ended up cancelling that reservation. Didn't want to take the chance that he'd have another freakout right there in WDW. We haven't tried another Japanese steakhouse since then either.

Just a thought...

We took both our son and daughter as toddlers and had no problem there. They ask that you sit them at the end or on the corner.... as the grill is very hot. However you are so far away that it is impossible for them to reach it. The kids LOVED watch the chef cook and the noise that was made when they threw the utensils around. I would recommend it.

As for signature restaurants I think if you eat earlier in the night it's easier on everyone. We've taken our kids many times (now 4 and 2). They are used to eating out and understand the expectations. It is no different than any other restaurant in the real world. It's not a mcdonalds and should be treated as such. But many people on this board will scare you about taking kids to a signature. Go and enjoy yourselves and know that you will not be the only one with kids.:yay::yay:

When we went to Teppan Edo this family that was at our table had brought their toddler. He screamed at the top of his lungs the entire time that he was in the restaurant. That certainly did not make for an enchanting evening. That child was overtired & hungry & couldn't decide which he wanted ore, sleep or food. This went on for 2 hours, this gives all toddlers & their parents a bad name.

I thought that the hot grill was too close to the table. If a child was not watched carefully they could be burned.

You know your child, so go for it if he could sit through a long dinner & be entertained by the chef.

I took my two year old on our recent trip and he loved it. I think your little one would be ok.

I think it is better to take a toddler to a restaurant where the table is your own table -- not shared with others who may not appreciate dining with a toddler.

People say, "It's Disney -- bring your kids everywhere". But, there are many visitors to WDW who do not have small children and are not enchanted with other people's little ones.

It's always best to have some respect for your fellow diners. Too bad we live in a world, now, where everybody says, "I'll do what I want and if people don't like it, they can lump it."

In Disney World, I would expect to see toddles/children everywhere!! My mentality is definitely...if you don't like my toddler here, you can lump it! My child is well behaved for an 18 month old child...but there are times where he will cry or get upset. It is a learning experience for him to be at a restaurant...and while we will remove him if he gets too loud or too upset, there is no other way to teach him than to have him experience it. We don't let him run around in restaurants...and we usually bring a DVD to amuse him if the wait is super long, but we go to our local Hibachi Grill all the time and he loves it. Sorry...but if you don't like toddlers being with you, then take a vacation where adults only are allowed. We did that before we had our son when we didn't want to deal with kids. I would NEVER expect that at Disney!!

We also have signature restaurants scheduled as well...Flying Fish Cafe and Yahtsman Steakhouse. We did make 5pm reservations hoping that the restaurant would be more empty than full. We also know our child and know the time limit he can sit in a high chair...hence why we bring the DVD player with us. We usually put our entire order in at a restaurant...apps, entree and even dessert at times to keep the meal moving pretty quickly too. We eat at all the nice restaurants in our area and have never had a problem. I also have a toddler that will eat scallops, fillet, asparagus, lobster, etc.

I do have to sort of agree with your post AND the post you quoted. There are times and places for kids. I expect to see them at Disney. However, I also expect the parent to know if it is something their child can do and to keep parenting while they are at Disney. If a child is screaming, crying, and carrying on for an extended period of time (5+ minutes) then they need to be removed. They should not be allowed to seriously bother those around you... including other families with children.

So, if you are willing to deal with your child if needed and if you think your child can handle the length of the meal, then go for it. If you can't, then you may need to wait until your child is older. All kids are different. Some can do it, some can not. Nothing wrong with that.

I also hope you keep the DVD player on silent or with earphones.

We have headphones for my son...but I have heard DVD's on a low volume before and it doesn't bother me at all.

As I said in my original post...if you want an adult only vacation, then head to a place that is designed for adults only. We did it when we were childless and LOVED it. We would NEVER have expected to go to Disney and not be disturbed by kids. It isn't realistic at all!!

If kids are well-behaved, I see no reason to avoid restaurants with family style seating. Disruptive and badly behaved children are less than enchanting whether they are 2 feet away at the next table, or seated at the same table as you!

If someone felt strongly enough that they didn't want to sit at a table with a polite, well behaved child, than I'd say they should be the one avoiding those restaurants :)

Now if you're referring to people behaving poorly with this line " I'll do what I want and if people don't like it, they can lump it." I'll agree with you that it is too bad. But, if someone was upset by my kids just being kids - than yes, I don't care about their opinion!

My kids have always liked hibachi restaurants. They enjoy the "show" and the food. If your toddler behaves in most restaurant settings, they'll likely be fine there as well.
