would you take your toddler to Teppan Edo?

Thanks everyone for the input. I cancelled the ADR. My daughter is usually very well behaved and we have no problem taking her out to eat. However, these were dinner ADRs and I can't guarantee her good behavior at the end of the day after being totally stimulated at Disney :)

There's always next time :):)

Personally, I'm not into taking young ones to hibachi restaurants. My little ones used to get spooked by the big flame. Plus, if you have a kid whos squirming, it can be dangerous for them, as well as the chefs and other patrons. That doesn't mean you shouldn't, its just my opinion.

As far as taking your kids to signature restaurants - Its Disney! Personally, I don't care what anyones opinion is, its an eating establishment in Disney World - Its just fine for kids (as long as its not V&A, when were not allowed in under a certain age) no matter what. My meal can bejust as "ruined" by a screaming kid at a quick service restaurant (probably more since people will be more relaxed with the rules) as a screaming kid at a table service restaurant.

I'm sure a toddler would be fine, but I would personally wait. The hot grill just seems close enough that a wily toddler (like my boys were) could get burned.

We have headphones for my son...but I have heard DVD's on a low volume before and it doesn't bother me at all.

As I said in my original post...if you want an adult only vacation, then head to a place that is designed for adults only. We did it when we were childless and LOVED it. We would NEVER have expected to go to Disney and not be disturbed by kids. It isn't realistic at all!!

Dvds need to be silent in restaurants. Just because it doesn't bother you doesn't mean it won't bother anyone else.

Thanks for using headphones for your son!

But you can't make people silence their DVD players...just like you can't make people GET OFF their phones. I find people talking loudly on cell phones to be SUPER ANNOYING!!!, but it doesn't give me a right to ask them to stop talking on it...or god forbid they put it on vibrate in a restaurant so it isn't ringing during dinner. Or how about the table of drunk people who become loud and obnoxious...thinking that everyone in the restaurant thinks they are just as amusing as they find themselves. Sorry, but there are a million things that are super annoying in restaurants. If someone decides to have a DVD on quietly for their child to keep them from screaming...I say go for it.

Didn't respond to this post because I was starting to get umm...aggravated. But I in total agreement that this is Disney and it's appropriate for children to be almost everywhere. I am not saying you should let your children be crazy but really? Don't want to be around kids? Disney? Dana

Not only would I, but I did. I took my 13 month old DS to Teppan Edo. He was terrible and DH had to take him out. We sat with another family. He was terrible there, but was great at all other places. I think he was just hot and exhausted. Toddlers are always a little unpredictable. But I don't think it was the place, just too much for one day

I can't, but the management sure can!

There are many businesses that ask their customers to go outside to use their cell phones. I love this and would like more places to do this.

And yes, I think you can and should nicely ask someone to turn their technology off during dinner if it is disturbing you and other diners. Or mention to your server. I was in a restaurant yesterday and some guy kept playing thisloud and annoying game on his phone. We mentioned it to our server and we were moved. But I couldn't believe this grown man with children with him would be doing this in a restaurant.

But they won't!!! I have yet to see any management remove or ask a restaurant guest to stop doing something and I have dined in some of the nicer restaurants in New York City as well as Philadelphia. (Masa, Kai, Le Bec Fin, Palms, Ruth's Chris, etc!!)

The point is this...it is amazing how much we as a society excuse rude, obnoxious behavior from adults and yet expect children to act like angels in the same establishments.

Enough said! :cool1:

Now you have me second guessing our ADR for September with a 5 and 2 year old. Time to think about a backup plan.

I've never seen a kid watching a dvd player with the volume on in Ruths Chris. I do not think they would put up with it if another guest complained. :)

Go! I love Teppen Edo. There are no flames. If the child is in a highchair, they are far enough away from the grill...the little show the chef does is enjoyable and cute for everyone. My dd is very picky, so when she was little I brought in the food for her (bowl of fruit).

Does this mean that it wouldn't be appropriate to bring a toddler to a signature restaurant? We'll be there in January with our nearly 3 yr old daughter and had pretty much planned on doing signatures when we did eat at the restaurants because, let's face it, the regular TS places ain't great. I had assumed that with the exception of places that have an express age limit, kids of all ages were an expected part of the dining experience at Disney because, you know, it's Disney...

Toddlers are welcome at the signature restaurants too. My almost 3yo has been to most of Disney's signatures. California Grill was especially child friendly - they bring Goldfish crackers with the bread, let the kids order "mocktails" and have the cutest kids' dessert in all of WDW, the rice crispy sushi plate. Flying Fish was great too, the decor is so cute and my daughter just loved the food-on-a-stick theme ("skewer" options are offered for entrees plus a Mickey-straw of goodies with chocolate dip for dessert).

Now Teppan Edo on the other hand, that one I'm reluctant to try with my toddler. We've been to two teppanyaki restaurants with her - the first was the one and only time we've ever had to remove her from a restaurant in her life, and the second was better but she was still uneasy about the show and much more clingy than normal. My older kids love TE so right now I have a lunch ADR there but that will change depending on how the youngest does with a "trial run" at a closer-to-home Japanese restaurant in the fall.

Totally depends on the kid. Neither of my toddlers would have been good candidates for Teppan Edo. I have met toddlers who are reliably calm and happy, relatively quiet in a restaurant environment, can be counted on to not grab what they shouldn't, and will willingly try new foods. I had a happy, good eater who was grabby and constantly moving. And I had a picky, restless toucher of everything. You know your kid, trust what you know. If you have a kid who is likely to do well, trust that. If not, trust that.

We took DS to at 11 months and on his 2nd birthday trips...I think its very toddler appropriate! I usually have him sit on my lap for the 'show' part though so we can talk through it and he isnt scared for the onion volcano!

I actually think that at his 2nd birthday trip we had WAAAAY more issues with the character meals because he was in the 'afraid' of them phase..(he loved them at 11 months and at 3 yrs...he was a textbook 2 yr old!)

Absolutely take your toddler! We were seated by a mother who openly breastfed her baby during the dinner. Everybody's got to eat! :lmao:

:rotfl2:

If you would take your toddler to a teppan restaurant at home, then take them at WDW. If not, then don't. :goodvibes
