Would you take an almost 3 year old to Cirque du Soleil?

My whole family is planning on going to Cirque du Soleil one night and I mentioned it to someone and they asked if I was bringing my kid, who is almost 3. We were planning on it, but they said they wouldn't. Has anyone been with small kids, is it a good idea or not? Thanks

my almost 3 yo (3 in july) sat thru a baseball game and movie recently. So I'd think about it. Only thing is that it's kind of expensive and you'd might get upset if he/she didn't want to sit and watch

He will be free, so that's not the problem, and he does sit through stuff if he is into it. I guess the concern that this person had was that kids should not be there. I just don't want to be the only one with a kid that may make some noise

I wouldn't. But I also wouldn't bring that age to a broadway show other than a disneythemed one. If your child is capable of sitting quietly and watching the show that is fine. But if not , it is expensive and people around you may not take kindly to it. I am going to it and I am not even thinking about taking my 5 yr old

I've been to Cirque several times and while I love it I do think it might be difficult for a child so young to sit through. There are no breaks, no intermissions and the show is 90 minutes long. Some parts are quiet/soft/slow and it might be difficult for a young child to stay focused on the production.

The audience setting is sort of formal (in my opinion) or at least it was when I was at the Cirque Show in DTD before . By that I mean that people don't get up and move around like they do at a Disney on Ice Show or a Circus but rather people sit still like at an Opera or Ballet. Maybe others have had a different experience when they were there but that was mine.

Can your child sit still for 90 minutes at a time?

I concur. It is more like an opera atmosphere than a regular show where people move around a lot. I would not take my three year old to it, but only you know if yours can sit there quietly.

I don't think he'll be free....in the past Cirque has required a ticket for everyone - in part to discourage people from bringing small children who will disturb others.

I wouldn't bring a three year old. Cirque doesn't tend to allow you to leave and come back easily - its an expensive show to find yourself out in the lobby because your child started crying or because a potty run or diaper change needed to happen.

ETA: Looks like he will be free - child tickets are 3-9.

My only concern would be if they are frightened easily. There is one character in the show "The Titan" that I know some of the smaller children found to be a threat. As the other posters have stated, you know your child and what you can expect from them.

We have been to the show.

Since the entire family is going, I would bring him, with the plan of "an adult may have to take him out" if he starts to get antsy.

I suggest bringing a supply of goldfish crackers (or whatever his favorite snack may be) in case you need those to keep him quiet.

My dd went when she was almost 4 and loved it. She did fall asleep near the end but apart from that she sat mesmerised by it all.

We had the 2nd option of seats I think the ones nearer the stage might have been a bit frightening for her but we were further back ( still great seats) and she was fine.
