Would you take a double stroller?

We're considering a trip in April with a 2 year old and a 4 month old. Should we take our double stroller? My fear is the size and the possibility of it getting stollen (which I know is a possibility no matter what stroller I take). Traveling with two kids is so much harder than traveling with one!

Our first trip when we took two single strollers as our double stroller was big and hard to maneuver. One was a full size and the other was compact. Our second trip - the kids were 6,5 & 3 - by now we had upgraded to a Joovy Caboose Ultralight. This worked out awesome - it is easy to push and make turns.

We haven't been with the kids yet, but we are going in October. We are bringing our double jogger from home. I just know the kids are used to the comfort and I love how it pushes.

I'm just going to hope nothing happens to it. We are going to gate check it for the flight.

reading this has now gotten me paranoid for our trip down next year...we'll be taking a double stroller as well, as we'll need it for the airport. We'll have 2 kiddos with us (going the week one turns 1 and the older turns 3) so I'd be crazy to go through the airport without one.

When we went down this past January with our little guy, he was 15 months old, and we bought a cheaper mid-size stroller for fear that our really nice one would either get broken or stolen. Turns out we were fine either way, but it was for piece of mind.

Is stroller theft really that much of a problem down there? It seemed pretty well organized when we went before. But if it might be a problem, I might consider buying a cheaper double stroller that I won't get upset about being stolen or broken specifically for the trip....

For us, two cheap umbrella strollers worked best. The crowds can be hard to maneuver through with a double stroller or full-size stroller. Instead we bought two collapsible umbrella strollers from Walmart. My husband and I each push one, and it helps us get through crowds easier. And, if one of them gets stolen (which did happen to us once) we're only out $12. By the way, if you do get a stroller stolen while you're there, the Disney CM you report it to will generally give you a voucher for a free rental for the rest of the day...at least that's what happened to us.

We went in March dd was 3.5 and ds was 18mos. I brought a single stroller and a few carriers. Ds hasnt been in the stroller much his life, hes been worn in a carrier. I figured dd would walk and ds would ride in the stroller boy was i wrong! DD got very tired very quick. She ended up in the stroller and we had to wear DS everywhere, it would have been fine but hes 30lbs lol it got tiring!!! We had no issues with the single stroller at all.
In Sept we are going again and renting a double stroller from orlando stroller rentals. For the airport DS will be in a carrier on my back and dd can walk orride in DS carseat that will be attached to the luggage.

Yes, a millions time yes!! Double strollers are not hard to manuever in the crowds. We have taken it and it was fine. Plus with the age of your kids, it is necessary to have a fully reclining seat for the little one. Plus, we liked the storage and sunshades, and snack trays. If you have 2 separate strollers, then noone gets a break from pushing, or if your older wants to walk, you don't have free hands to chase them!

Very good points. I stand corrected. You WILL need a reclining seat for sure.

Thank you! This is a huge help and I'm convinced we need to take one. Now to just convince DH that we need to...

I vote one stroller and a sling for the baby. Or, two stollers. We just did a trip in May and took two strollers for our boys ages 2 and 5. They were super easy to deal with and a breeze to get on and off of the tram, monorail, train, etc.

But I still prefer the sling for a baby. ;)

We have been SEVERAL times with a double (side by side) stroller, I would not go any other way...easy for the kids to get in and out...and only one person needs to push which allows the other to pick up things that are dropped...or to take pictures....

I have a front/back at home and I find it too hard to maneuver...

I always borrow a side by side (my kids were 17 months and 3 the last time we went)

I generally don't worry about things getting stolen, I believe the best in people and I know that if something happens, we will survive :)

Happy Travels...

We are going Aug 16th and it will be the 1st time with the kids and they are 4,4,and almost 2 so we are taking our double stroller and an umbrella stroller so we will see how that goes!

For those of you who took a double, did any of you have to load/unload it off the buses?

We are going next year and I was planning on bringing two umbrella strollers for our (then) 4 year old adn 2 year old. Pushing the double through crowds was a minor concern but off and on the bus was my major concern.

I totally agree, you need a double stroller ! Im sure it wont be stolen. I love the idea I saw on these boards to put a ribbon or something on it so you can find it easier. have fun !

Whatever stroller youbring, you will need to fold it for the buses. In most cases, that means emptying the stroller.

For the age of your kiddos, a double would be fine (and the easiest IMO). We took two umbrella Mac Volo strollers the last two years, but our kids are older. I couldn't imagine having to push BOTH of them all day in one strollers no matter how great it was. These were perfect for us - DH and I could go our separate ways with a boy and the strollers were super easy to fold up on the MK train, buses, etc. (You can't take an unfolded stroller on the train that goes around MK.)

For your family, one of you could "take the kids" while the other fussed with the stroller. (I'm just trying to picture on/off the bus, etc. with kids your age.) However, if you had two really good reclining umbrella strollers, I could see you being able to pick up the baby, fold down the stroller and do it all yourself.

If I had childern your age, I'd likely do the double stroller - super easy to push and comfy for the kids. For older kiddos though, I'd recommened two separate ones.

And no, stroller theft is not rampant. Usually strollers get moved by the CM's or I have heard about people getting strollers mixed up - so make sure yours is easily identifiable. (We used insulated lime green reusable lunch bags to hang "stuff" from the handles-very easy to spot.)

This will be our first trip with a double stroller. We'll be visiting in less than two weeks with our DS who is 2 1/2 and our DD who will be 9 weeks. We have the Combi double stroller and it handles well in crowds, can fit in normal doorways, and folds compactly. I didn't want the giant Graco double since I could barely lift it in the store. I wanted something I could use alone when DH is at work. We also like that the Combi has 2 reclining seats, which is not only a neccesity for the baby, but for or son, who also still naps in a stroller. I think for the age of your children, a double would be a good idea.:goodvibes

We used a double stroller side by side, Zooper Tango, the last two summers. It is wide but it reclines which is a huge plus!! We never had a problem with the crowds with it, I personally think that it split the sea of people. You do have to fold up strollers for the buses. I would get the kids and my husband would fold up the stroller and get the bag underneath the stroller. Our system seemed to work and the kids were always happy!!!
Good Luck!!

I take my double InStep Safari II stroller every time we go. I have a 2 yr old and a 6 yr old. It a side by side and its a jogger so its easy to handle. People give you dirty looks for having strollers on the buses period, so I just dont worry about it. Its also easier to have a double than trying to keep up with two different strollers. IMO. Plus, with one stroller then only one of you is pushing it and you can switch if you get tired.

We took our BJ Double last fall. It was a bit of a pain to get it folded and onto the bus, well not for me, but DH is now saying it wasn't that fun.;) We are looking to bring a dble again but something a little smaller and lighter.

It was great in the parks, no problem with the crowds at all.

We were never asked to fold it up for the monorail or boats either, just the busses.
