Would you skip AK?

Well then by that definition Epcot is also a zoo, yet I've never heard anyone call it that before. And they don't of course because the animals are only one aspect of the entire theme park. Much like AK.

Are animal just one aspect of ANIMAL kingdom?

We aren't huge fans on AK but never skip it. Normally we go for a half day and then head to Disney Springs for the evening. Do you have time planned out for that already? Maybe that would be something to consider?

Have you ever been there? Yes. Live animals on display (which as you point out gives it the description of a zoo) is definitely only one aspect. But in general there is much more than just animals here.

I think the point is, and the reason MANY people call it a half-day park, is that if you're not there to see animals, there isn't a TON extra to do. If you don't want to walk the animals trails it does only take a half-day to visit. If you are into the animals (the "zoo" part) then it definitely takes longer to tour.
