Would you report your neighbor for an abused and neglected dog?

If Child Services can remove a child from an abusive home, there's absolutely no reason for Animal Welfare not to be able to remove an abused animal.

I'm glad you called. I would have done it without hesitation.

Of course I can't travel across crountry to save this dog, but I have done just what I proposed here, my dog is a survivor so don't go thinking I am assuming anything. But I would never sit by and watch it happen.

I never suggested someone break the law, I never said steal it, break into their house, etc. There are so many more options to help this dog other than "*****ing" about it on a WDW board.

Go ahead, *****. Won't help the dog alot by patting blondie on the back, but it might make her feel better.

I have pets myself and they are members of my family, I'm a volunteer for dog rescue, but I would NEVER put myself or my family at risk to STEAL a dog that I THINK is being abused. Animal control exists for a purpose- let them do their job.

Exactly my thoughts.....all of them, two wrongs, breaking the law, not putting myself at risk.........

you're doing the BEST you know how Blondie. Please keep us updated how it goes!

Well, Lu, driving from SC to VA is hardly travelling cross country. Give her a break, she contacted animal control. They are responsible for getting the dog to a safe place.

Don't ask me to make you feel better for not taking a stand and rescuing the dog you are watching suffer. I'm sorry but the dramatics Serena states of risking her life and family's doesn't fly.

Lu

She is following the letter of the law. If that does not suit you, shoot her or get the address and save the dog yourself.

It is really easy to make judgemental prouncements from afar, but, you are being very unfair to the OP. She came for advice, NOT judgements.

Ever seen the mountains in NC, feels like cross country.

Sorry guys for coming across so hard, just something close to my heart knowing someone is watching animal abuse and not going gung ho about it.

I'll back out.

I think that is a smart move.

I don't think there is a person on this thread that isn't touched by what is happening to this dog.

Good luck, Blondie. *pat pat*

I am also touched very close to my heart with this situation.
The dog in the photo below my sig is a pound puppy who had been severly abused. It took me months to be able to reach down and pat and praise him without him cringing.
I detest animal abuse, but, you have to follow the law, unfortunately.

I absolutely would call with no hesitation (I have done so in the past). You did the right thing, Blondie. Hopefully, this dog gets the help it needs. What a shame!!!

The laws restrict Animal Control but not Blondie? She is doing something and is involved trying to get someone to investigate and remove the dog. What else do you want? "so many more options" you say... Could you give us just 3 or 4 to start? (other than sending her over to knock on the door of these sick people... that's not safe in today's world, that's what others are hired to do).

According to your profile you are a SAHM, and SC to VA is not that long of a trip even with the NC mountains (yes, I've driven through all of it, I don't understand the big deal). Pack your kids in the car and go tomorrow, Blondie said she'd give you directions. Don't worry about your schedule or the kids' schedules, a dog's LIFE is on the line here... that is what is most important to you, right? Then you won't be sitting around just *****ing about it, you'll be doing something gung ho about it as you say. Maybe with some help from you instead of criticism this situation will be resolved sooner :D

What i can't understand is why not sooner ? - you've known about the dog for 2yrs - why has it taken you this long to do something about it ???????

2yrs of misery for the poor dog :( - good knows what life the poor thing has had:(

Let this be a lesson to us all - DON'T BE AFRAID TO RING

Can you live with that?

I'm sorry but someone who watches abuse take place and not take action is as guilty as the abuser.
Lu

Wow, pass the Midol.

Blondie, thank you for making the call - and for giving us the updates. I know the situation will right itself due to your intervention.

:sunny:

So Lu - your solution is?

You say you wouldn't break the law so what would you do?

Blondie can only call she can't make them go, she can't make them remove the dog - so what would you have have do?

You have alot of talk but no solution.

All our dogs for the past 17 years have all been rescues. We now have 3 and have adopted for 5 or 6 over the years. So I know how hard it is to remove an animal.

The law does not recognize an animal as anything but property so unless there demonstrable abuse it is very hard to remove them.

Blondie, you are doing everything within your power to help this dog. Now, it is up to the authorities. Nothing more you can do.

The dog is gone, don't know whether it was removed by Animal Control or they took it to a Vet or what, but it's gone. Maybe Animal Control will call and let me know?

Thanks for the concern everyone, I know I did the right thing by calling the day I posted this thread, I just needed a little support since I've never done something like this before.

Blondie, I think you did the right, responsible thing.

Blondie, good going. You did the right thing.

Luwhoever... Sheesh...

You definitely did the right thing, Blondie. :)
Hopefully the dog is out of harm's way now.
Please let us know if you hear anything further.
