NOTE: The atmosphere is the main reason to patronize this eatery. And, just
like eating at Grandma's, the table service can be spotty, based upon waiter's
attitude. As for food, the pork should have stayed on the farm wallowing in the
mud, and the fish left at the bottom of the sea; mashed potatoes were average;
onion rings fabulous. The 3-piece fried chicken was surprisingly good and could
easily demand a return visit. Prior to meal, the Tune In Lounge bar is like walking
into a 50's hotel bar; poor wine list but great mixed drinks. Well worth stopping
for a pre-meal cocktail. We felt the place was overpriced with just average
food quality. However, the P&J Milkshake is NOT to be missed. I had the Blue
Plate Special, a fish dish that changes seasonally. Mine was Mahi Mahi and was
far less tasty than I have had elsewhere; was also overcooked and "spongy".
I love Mahi Mahi, especially blackened, thus have a basis for comparison. The
proteins (meat and fish) are below average, I have found the veggies at 50's
to be well prepared and really quite good.
